Ken was a friend of Mark & Brad’s from Boston and responsible for the pic. I don’t really remember much about him.

I think Al certainly had a Boy George phase. This would have been around the time of Culture Club’s emergence too. Al tried so hard to be British that he had to match any trends.

We opened a couple of shows for Culture Club that summer but I can assure you that they weren’t an influence. On the other hand, CC were really nice people. The insisted we share the backstage buffet with them at soundcheck and sat with us while we ate. Most headliners aren’t like that.

Shit. I think that Ken guy is a photographer now on the west coast. I posted some cool shots of Special Affect he took, as well as one of Al in a leather jacket in shades from the early 80s on here long ago. Too lazy to look - pretty sure it’s the same Ken w/some weird last name.
I know he has a web site…all I can remember

Would you be thinking of Ken Miersma? He was the one who had the pics of the first gig. The Ken in the new pic is some guy who was a friend of Mark and Brad’s from Boston. Ken Miersma is from Chicago.

Indeed she was. She was gorgeous and quite charming. She married WS producer Ian Taylor and moved to England. I think they’re still married.

Speaking of Depeche Mode & Culture Club, wempathy, did you ever have any interaction with the lads from Basildon? Didn’t you open for them a few times?
I mean, Depeche Mode circa 1981-82 didn’t appear to have any of the trappings of a group that would go on to worldwide stardom in the industry and still sell sizable amounts of albums and do major tours for ~30 years …
