I have to admit I feel completely blindsided by a lot of this.
I’m apathetic to most “political” stuff so I don’t typically care to follow it (though I’ve been more engaged this year than any year prior). And I roll my eyes at and have become quite numb to the online hyperbole and chest-puffing that is so pervasive in these times. If I had a dollar for everyone that threatened to kill/rape me and/or my family I just buy off the protestors on all sides.
I wish there were more dialogue of the greater context of social media. Not in the branding of groups and tying them to certain platforms and their supposed tolerance or condemning. That’s a false oversimplification, in my eyes, and fails to address the actual problem.
People all across the board have become weird planets unto themselves. They want to be part of something big and grand and even moral, but they also desperately want attention and credit for such involvement. Actual understanding or even an informing of issues is secondary to most people as the priority seems to always be the reaction itself. When a photo of someone with a shirt or a sign emerges, or of them in what may appear to be a situation/scene that could be deemed culturally “wrong”, very few people ask questions. They want the moral credit for the condemnation. Here we are, lighting torches and sharpening pitchforks because that’s the most visible thing we can do. People talk about virtue-signaling and cancel-culture. I find both to be pretty scary, and it’s absolutely done by BOTH sides. If a raging mob trying to intimidate someone to change a vote or a stance on something can’t be equated with cancel-culture, what can? So many people wanted to KILL Pence, Pelosi, etc. Hard to get more canceled than that.
I don’t think there is a lot of thought or consideration behind any of this. Even our so-called Boomer generation is caught up in the bullshit. If all those clowns realized that they could be put in prison for treason, insurrection, etc. would they all be laughing, taking selfies, and live-tweeting or streaming video on FB Live?
It’s obviously not just the so-called Conservatives, but let’s face it… we chose a Twitter President and then we got a Twitter Country. Yes, we were heading that way as a society anyway, but we sure fastracked a lot of shit down the highway to hell before we could even assess what the fuck was happening.
I probably babbled some nonsense but am not ambitious enough to go back and re-read it. I’m sure it won’t be my last rant here, hahaha.

In the meantime, as a question of actual governmental and Constitutional protocol/ procedure, though… Does anyone know what happens if they do go forward with an Impeachment and it’s not able to conclude prior to 1/20/2021? Does it continue? Does it still apply? I heard one official saying that since the wording of the law is something about "when impeached the President shall be removed from office and . . . . . " that it’s completely irrelevant since Trump would NOT be the President at such a time.
They seem really terrified of him running for President AGAIN, which I understand, but that’s kind of embarrassing to me and shows once more how pathetic the Democratic party is. If they can’t, in 4 years following this absolute shitshow, give people a better alternative than the guy who just attacked our own Capitol . . . well, maybe it’s time for them to really ask if anything they’re offering is even worth a damn.

The need for impeachment is something that the “law & order” party should agree with – actions have consequences. You need to show that falsely claiming that an election was fraudulent and stirring up a riot is not acceptable.
It does also give both Democrats and Republicans cover from Trump. Let’s face it – his base is almost cult like in their devotion. While the Democrats SHOULD be able to find a candidate that does better than Trump, the Republicans would also be happy to leave his legacy in the past. Under his term, they lost control of the House, Presidency, and recently the Senate. Yet too many are afraid to call him out. Case in point – There was a Republican who voted against a state’s group of electors … not cause they felt there was fraud, but out of fear of threats against them and their family. (This was relayed by another Republican House member – Rep Meijer of Michigan, who has recently spoken up about how his party is cowering to Trump out of fundraising needs, and not because they feel it is appropriate leadership.)
So, I do think there is the need for something to be done showing this behavior is not Presidential and that we hold our leaders to a higher standard.
That, and I want a President who I can quote in front of my elementary students again. The past 4 years have been difficult, since bringing up his rhetoric doesn’t quite fit with our anti-bullying policies.

Again, I think you are understating the importance of this. This is not just unpresidential. This is criminal. This is literal fascism/dictatorship/authoritarianism. He tried to seize control of the press and when he couldn’t he tried to delegitimize them. He fired ANYONE who would not do his bidding. He tried to overthrow a free election. George H W Bush made federal felonies punishable execution (Not sure if it’s been rewritten since) but this goes beyond federal felony. this is certainly treason. Actual treason, not what his supporters shout because he didn’t win.

One thing that’s probably gonna happen now that trump has stirred all this shit up ALLLLLLL of his shit is coming out! there’s no way he can keep up with all of the lawsuits. So, his grades, his taxes even that piss tape, if it’s real, is coming out! It’s just a matter of time.
There’s a big push now to recall NEWSOM. While not actively involved in it, I think he’s a pretty shitty Governor and wouldn’t mind seeing him replaced, but with who/what? I’ve actually not seen THAT part of the plan spelled out. I told my wife that this was all just a waste of time and energy unless and until the people pushing for it actually have an exciting and charismatic “new guy” ready that they can rally behind. I’ve only loosely been observing this bit, but it is kind of an echo of the Capitol storming in that a lot of people want to be part of a Revolution, but don’t really have any other boxes filled out on the flowchart.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is actually quite loudly condemning Trump and all the Republicans who have been going along with any such nonsense. I don’t like the guy (mostly for petty personal reasons) but it’s interesting to see these so-called Mavericks pitted against each other.
I’m referring to the big picture dialogue about how social media influences individual and group thought and behaviour and how it seems to have had a great impact and erosion of people’s willingness and ability to critically evaluate stuff and to take personal ownership of their mistakes. I don’t have any great answers to making shit better or anything. I just think that it’s an aspect of our society that we need to be very cautious of and something which we may need to consider including as part of both standard education and public health and safety issues.

If I was a partisan hack I’d say nobody can do well in this covid climate, and to cut the guy a break.
Ultimately I think the fact that he can’t remain consistent in his leadership is going to be his undoing, but that’s all there is too it… and yeah, replace him with who? so because there isn’t a viable option maybe he survives recall.
