Okay instead of completely hijacking Jordan’s Lockmotive thread, I saw fit to start a new one where we can discuss the possiblilites of this coming about.
So start posting your ideas, possible artwork, and even titles for the compilation. This could even coincide somehow with the T-Shirt idea.

i dont post very often haha, but i am a daily lurker (my work has me near a computer)
i would love to be a part of/get a copy of this compilation. though the ‘music’ i make is significantly more minimalist and lo-fi drone than i think most people here would even care for…
@ Akbar, well that is what we need to decide if its Ministry covers, original tunes, or a combination thereof. I would tend towards the latter, but then the whole thing might get scuttled. Perhaps it’s best for it not to have any real connection to Ministry.
@ Rustyhacksaw, I would think that any submission would have some merit, it doesn’t have to stick any one particular style. That would be completely boring if we put out a strictly all aggro/electro/industrial comp, its been done countless times before. Especially since many of us here are into much more experimental sounds than that.
Evil’s latest work is coming along really fine, as is voidhead’s. Rev, I am sure you probably have something from the Cryptids you would want to contribute. Wempathy? I remember you had been working on some stuff.
I’m also involved with Eddie Entropy (www.edentropy.com). There’s a free E.P. on there with strange drone spoken word stuff (Akbar might enjoy). We’re currently working in a more electro-industrial arena so that might work too.
I’ve got a lots of other projects too but those are the two most active ones.
Cool idea.
Not covers though. That wouldn’t be too interesting, but putting together something with the music of all the interesting people here would be super cool.

if any of you guys use iTunes, ive got an album up there by the name of ‘Delete Key’, its under the band name Rusty Hack-Saw Project. the title track is a good ‘single’ if you will.
also the link on my sig will take you to more music if you are interested. but i would love to help out, even if only to remix something for someone else.
There should be no style limitations.
Hard industrial or crooning like Bing Crosby, a wide range of styles will simply reflect the diversity of prongs.org.
So I guess it’s just up to somebody who knows what they’re doing (ChemicalMeat?) to start making a master list of everyone who wants to contribute.
If we want to continue the Ministry connection a little bit, maybe someone can talk Chris Connelly into letting us use something (I know he’s given away free music on his own site before). I know some people have been communicating with Sin, too. Maybe he’d be willing to let us use a Capt. Bigshot track. Can’t hurt to ask.
Or we can keep it strictly prongs users. Whatever.
I can gather a minion or two of mine and do a track for this. My place is like a musician youth hostel so whoever’s around at the time will be my artistic foil.
But I feel like we need a theme or SOMETHING! I’d rather it be Ministry covers/“interpretations” if anything, because it would be much more of a challenge, especially for the noise/drone dudes.
As for legality of that, um I don’t think it matters unless the compilation is “for profit” and no one’s gonna care anyway.
But I mean if Connelly for instance did something then obviously his shit wouldn’t have to be a cover.
Yep, that’s a necessary starting point. It depends if ye guys want to contribute existing material or write new songs especially for it. If contributing existing material ye should describe the song (style, lyrics etc.) and then ye can see if there’s any pattern or if the stuff complements each other. Of course it can be a mix of new and old material too. Someone needs to start the ball rolling with a song they want on it.
This could actually be really cool as it appears roughly half of potential contributors’ material is rock/industrial song oriented with the other half more instrumental/drone. A lot of possibilities here. Keep the fire alive on this one dudes.
I think the only way it would be really cool is if we all made original songs specifically for the comp and if the comp had a theme.
But this place doesn’t really have any overall theme aside from Ministry.
Ministry covers would be the most ideal, but it would be tough and take a lot of time. Personally I always dismissed the idea of covering Ministry because I am really influenced by them as it is. I prefer to cover stuff outside my realm like “Killing an Arab”.
I think it would be worth it though. Like for instance my style may be similar to Ministry, but I’d love to hear Dildo do a Ministry tune…
It’s true that the obvious theme would be Ministry covers, it just seems like a pain in the ass to cover a Ministry song so I’d prefer a compilation that just throws together a bunch of tracks by some random people who post on a message board. This board in and of itself is pretty strange and broad in it’s taste, why shouldn’t the compilation be the same?
Will this compilation be the best thing ever released to human ears? Will it be conceptually complex? Will it be a chart buster? No to all, but it could be a really cool document of this strange and bewildering beast we call Prongs! Sure, it could include Ministry covers for those who want to do that (just like Prongs includes threads about Ministry) but it could include lots of random oddness too, which is cool.
Of course, the real theme or lack of one should be reserved for the person who wants to actually compile the dang thing. So the question we should ask now is: who wants to do the work of compiling and theming? Someone step up yo!
PS: I recommend Akbar to be the compiler as he’s not got a project so would be unbiased and he’s got a good sense of humor. Plus he could do most the actual work while on the clock for his real job, so that’s about as close to a “paid position” as any of us could expect.
