PIG NEWS

For those who aren’t on the PIG forum I’ve just received some great news from the slaughterfront. First off, Ray has released a new single titled Preach which is available for download thru theswining.com
But you get it thru paypal. It’s only a dollar. I don’t have a paypal account so I can’t tell you how it sounds. But here’s the big news from an admin on theswining

This is gonna be long. Bear with me, lots to say.

Thanks for the feedback regarding the digital download method of delivery, the need NOT to remaster the later stuff (barring Pigmata/tyr) and the need to really unflatten the earlier stuff. Everything you guys are sounding off about is getting listened to. This is a really uncertain time because album sales are so diabolically shite that the deals people are getting with labels are just terrible. WE have to make the rules and do the thing that is going to cause the least financial risk and the biggest fan and artist satisfaction. This is an anti-label we’re starting here and it totally hinges on you guys and your support.

I’ll admit that the digital download was the only thing I could fire Raymond up about because it didn’t require him to take money out of his thin monthly budget and piss it into the wind on the hopes some will come back. I don’t know if you realise, but the last tour cost him a good £10k. It’s not easy to come back from that without being pretty shellshocked and gunshy. We’re dealing with a veterano here.

When you’re a single parent, the things you used to spend hours doing seem frivolous and childish when it isn’t a point A to point B path to getting your children fed, clothed, kept in comfort. While all of us as fans understand that Raymond’s artistic contribution is not just the reason we’ve all gathered, but the reason we make PIG-related art, do cover versions, get the logo tattooed to our very bodies, put the music on for our friends and tell them to shut up and listen, buy and wear the shirts around, quote the fucker in our sigs, and enjoy that under-advertised, overpriced, badly planned gig more than the regular people enjoy their slick stadium shows. These aren’t even the real nutters, these are just the every day guys and girls that are PIG fans.

I love the suggestion of a donation button but we’re going to first try to present other opportunities for you to line the Piggy coffers where you get something in return. ALL proceeds on everything goes back into making more, so that creation time for Raymond becomes a negative expense and might even turn a little extra.

I note that some of you said you prefer physical media. So do I, absolutely. Nothing can replace the feeling of seeing the artwork for the first time and the presence of it on your shelves can’t be replaced. Anybody can download. Owning the CD is the mark of a music lover and a true fan. This is a fact that comes into play down the road. This is only the first stage.

If you strip away the label guys with their attention to everything at once, and therefore nothing when it counts, and the shady representatives skimming off the cream and refusing to pay royalties, and the people who just want to put their name next to his, all we’ve got is Raymond and his fans, and there is no better way to make shit happen than meeting his output with support in bigger and bigger measures until we get what we want: new music, a well-booked and supported tour, video, and repeat. And repeat.

Right now, sales are steady, though not at avalanche level, but this is only day one and a bit. There’s hope on the horizon.

(cue Seven Veils intro)

I’m going to be asking you a lot of questions in the next few days. I’m also going to send out the first mass email to the members of this board with stuff you regulars will already know. I’m also going to call on a few of you to help us out with the vaults, so if you have bootlegs or rare stuff in a high quality format and you’re willing to help, let me know. If any of you regulars want to get your hands dirty and help out, let me know. We’ve got to keep rattling the cages or it’ll all go quiet again, and that is not an option.

If YOU have any questions, PM me. If I don’t know right away, I’ll ask Raymond. Note that he goes quiet sometimes. We’ll both have to find patience in that case, but I won’t let it drop.

Tell everyone. Post about Preach in other forums, add it to your sig, tweet it, make it your status, whatever. Let’s get this motherfucker done.

(Oh-wee-oh…)

Hope everyone can read that so far.

I then gave some suggestions on what can be done and here’s what he told me

Since you brought some of them up, I’ll tell you what’s in the works:

Now:
Official Facebook (because it’s the easiest way to link lots of stuff together)
New robust player on the old MySpace (even though it is indeed losing favour)
Email list - announcements only.

Within the month:
Launch of the new design and new CMS
Another track for direct sale
The official digital archive started (videos, bootlegs, rarities)
Advertising on sympathetic forums
Making Hamerican PIG show footage available

Reissue status:
=Clarifying what rights are where and removing the albums from the digital catalogues of those whose rights have expired
=Creating both FLAC and high quality mp3 album versions of later albums
=Creating the DEFINITIVE versions of each album
=Revisiting the ‘brightening’ process for older albums (the masters weren’t used for the Cleopatra stuff that was illegally reissued, but in some cases, the masters aren’t available)
=Digitising Raymond’s collection of videos
=Beginning the process of nagging Raymond into unearthing live tracks he may have kicking around

Worth considering:
=The essential PIG, for new fans. This was always a consideration but when funding collapsed, so did that possibility. We’ve found a way to do it but it still requires a bit of money.
=A Twitter. People check that shit every day. It could work to gather some fans who aren’t on FB or MySpace and get them reading.

Keep the ideas coming!

Oh - the vinyl, it requires enough sales of other things to fund a vinyl release, as the risk is high. (No on demand possible.) This has been tried by friends of PIG recently and it hasn’t worked out. The chances are slim, but it’d be great if we could.

And yes this deserves the flame. PIG has been a big topic of discussion in other threads and I know this will make some ppl happy

So basically this guy is too lazy/high and/or technologically inept to get his shit together financially and kick start his career back into action, yet he went and had a kid anyway.

And now his fanbase is working to save his music career led by some uber-motivated fanboy.

Well I think this is honestly the best thing any Industrial musician from the 90s could possibly hope for. Marilyn Manson needs this shit!

EDIT - no that actually was not fair to Manson in the least.

lol yes indeed but what I’m saying is true. The guy basically comes off as a total deadbeat.

It’s called birth control.

That was a rather dick head way of saying all that. Ray sobered up for the most part, although I’m sure he still has a few drinks. He also has more than one kid. I also wouldn’t call the admin a fanboy either. If he’s helping running the site then he’s part of the inner circle. At least that’s how I see it.

And you wanna talk about someone being too high or drunk to really get their career going again? Why don’t we take a good look at Manson. Motherfucker’s been too drunk on absinthe and too high on coke to put out a great album for the past several years. His last truly good album was Golden Age. EMDM was only half good and THEOL, for the most part, was a piece of shit. Again Manson’s last album was shit unlike the last PIG album. Twiggy ain’t making things any better. And why was the hierophant shut down? Bc of the popular quote “Manson does coke”, Why did Manson get pissed about that? Bc it’s the fucking truth and he can’t handle it!

And Ray’s a deadbeat bc he’s looking to the fans to help him get things going? If the guy didn’t hate record labels so much I’m sure all of this would’ve happened a lot of sooner. Ray obviously cares about the fans and just wants feedback. On having other ppl speak for him on this, you have a big point with the laziness there. Thing is he’s just not very computer savvy. He should definatly get with the times but what can ya do.

BTW I deleted my previous post bc this is more what I wanted to say. I was a little caught off guard by ur initial comment there Void. But I have to remember that we were both on the phant and that was a place full of even more shit talkers than on here. I’m still sad it closed down, but this place kinda filled the void.

If ur wondering who I was on the phant I was suckofFasAILor

Wasn’t trying to talk shit. I just think this guy seems like a deadbeat.

As for Manson yes I agree his drug/alcohol use has certainly affected his career and his music and performance has suffered.

However he is still able to pull off art gallery stuff for his painting, world tours, music videos etc. And from what I’ve read from inside sources he’s got his hands in all of these things way more than simply “ok”-ing stuff.

Manson is still nowhere near as much of a deadbeat as Raymond Watts. Let’s be honest he is obviously far more intelligent (even now) and a superior and more competent artist. (I am not however saying his music is better; that is subjective and obviously Raymond is probably a much better musician)

That’s why I realized comparing them was unfair to MM.

And as far as PIG goes it just seems like a JG Thirwell rip off so I never really cared much…

Anyway I realize I’ve basically come across as shitting on your whole thread so my bad. If you like PIG it’s cool and if his career is going to be up and running again more power to him. The live footage I saw of him was miles better than many other “industrial” acts running around these days so I’d rather he be back in action if anything…

Please PM me if you’d like and I will delete all my posts because I realize I derailed this thread with too much negativity.

how is he a deadbeat? i don’t get it. raymond has stated that jim (foetus) is what inspired him to write music again. that being said, as a fan of both foetus and pig, i don’t think they sound anything alike. AT ALL! they might both blend the same genres together, but the end result is completely different.

mhmm, finally, some news from the Lord of Lard! i’ll probably buy the single and post my thought in the near future.

i think it’s a clever idea. if i was a PIG fan or whatever, i would jump at the chance to help out one of my favorite bands. this has to be the first time i have ever seen someone’s massive lossless bootleg collection actually come into use other than personal enjoyment. Although not the most “professional” way to get things done, i think it’s very DIY and the fan collaboration aspect is appealing to me.

Don’t really dig on PIG much though.

Some of Pig’s early stuff sounds like Foetus - but then Thirwell appeared on the first Pig album, IIRC.

hey let’s speculate on the personal lives of musicians based on assumptions and conjecture

I’m pretty sure Thirlwell and Raymond borrowed from each other at some point. They did work together for awhile, afterall. If this gets Pig moving again, i’ll be game. About to check the new song in a few.

Very good news.

Foetus rules…always has imo.
Manson sucks…always has imo.
PIG I never really heard…although I heard Ray many times on KMFDM.

I grabbed the track. I like it but it’s more a-lines of his newer sound…same beat with no changes.

Speaking of which, new Foetus album “Hide” is out today!

Nice…thanks for the heads up guys!

The new Foetus sounds really good.

PIG I never really heard…although I heard Ray many times on KMFDM.

I’ll just say that KMFDM kinda pulled their more guitar driven sound from PIG. Ray, Steve White and Gunter Schulz all have a similar style but I believe PIG had that heavy guitar sound first. Not to mention Steve White was originally the guitarist for PIG. Ray’s work with KMFDM is phenomenal. What Do You Know Deutschland and Nihil are my favorite albums and that’s pretty much bc of Ray. When I saw KMFDM in '03 he was there and actually was more of a frontman than Sacha. Sacha just stood behind a keyboard thinking he was badass while Ray had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

Long story short, PIG is 10 times the band KMFDM could ever be. Good albums to start on are Sinsation and Wrecked. The former was actually on nothing records

Once upon a time I was a huge Pig fanboy. Except for “Poke in the Eye” I don’t listen to anything he does anymore, there simply reached a point when I’d had enough Pig. I’d say I outgrew it but I still listen to a lot of music even more silly and childish than Pig.

The new Foetus sounds really good.

Agreed, samples sound great. Especially dug “Here Comes The Rains” and “You’re trying to break me”. Looking forward to hearing the whole thang.

Rock! Thanks for the heads-up on the new Foetus. I’ve been monitoring his site for a few months now waiting for the announcement.

Awesome!

Nice tip dude!!!
