Photos and Synopsis for new RoboCop

Not sure what to think about the new suit.

Why? Why? Why?
Robocop is perfect. it’s timeless. no reason to redo it. I fuckin’ loathe Hollywood!

the suit looks cool I guess but it doesn’t look cyborg. just looks like some dude in a suit. a new batman prototype. Robocop needs to look like a fuckin’ robot. that dude doesn’t look like a robot.

I’ll be surprised if they can even get close to the atmosphere, mood, vibe, whatever you want to call it, that that movie’s visuals created. I’m still haunted by toxic waste man as he’s splattered all over the wind shield.
I may throw that flick on
Robocop is genuine.

I got it on Netflix. I’ll be watching it after I finish The Karate Kid for the millionth time.

Just got done reading some of the comments. Apparently I’m not the only one who thinks it looks like a rejected batman suit.

I was actually excited about the forthcoming new Robocop film. Yes, the first is absolute perfection, but a crap pair of sequels and some other franchised dogcrap left it all in need of some redemption in my eyes.

Seeing this new Robo suit has crushed my soul and left me without any hope for this new film. Blue Robocop was bad enough. But Batman’s factory-second prototype garage sale scuba suit is an absolute death blow. May everyone who greenlighted this sacrilege suffer the burning fires of Hell for all eternity.

Haha wow. Looks like some retarded shit out of an anime movie. Hollywood has no originality!! Remakes of Judge Dredd, Total Recall, all look horrible.

Fucking stupid. They made Total Recall and it was appalling and this could be even worse.

When Aronofsky was lined up for it I thought now that would be cool but then he jumped ship and it should have ended with that.

Verhoeven doesn’t get the credit he deserves for bringing us all these classics. Even the bad ones are classics.

I’m not a huge fan of the suit but i suppose it does looks like modern or slightly futuristic military/police attire. I’m still looking forward to it, great cast and great director. Check out Elite Squad 1 & 2 for some uncomfortably realistic police brutality and fascism from Brazil’s finest, B.O.P.E. Great films, i recommend them very highly. The basic plot is 2 rookie cops are tired of the corruption of the force and try to get out of it and onto the elite team of the title. Meanwhile the team leader is approaching burnout due to the brutal nature of the job, and wants to get out of the life and groom a new recruit as his eventual successor. It’s explosive stuff.

He looks ALOT like the ninja from Metal Gear Solid. All black, but the suit AND the helmet look identical to the ninja.

The funny thing about the original Robocop is that it still holds up. A lot of the messages and environments it glamorized and lampooned still go on today (shithole Detroit, ridiculously fancy luxury cars, upper class vs lowest class etc)…

Paul V is really good at conveying humor and violence in a very entertaining, satirical way, kind of like what Peter Jackson used to do.

I don’t expect this to be any more than popcorn fare, which is a shame. Of course, it will also be PG-13. The original was going to be rated X!

Gosh I wish they would just stop. These films cannot be improved. Next will be Starship Troopers. The fuckers…

My favorite ad from the original has to be the sunblock. For those who don’t know the chick in that ad later played Alotta Vagina in the first Austin Powers

The original was going to be rated X!

I’m pretty sure they said on the commentary that was specifically because of toxic waste man, and because of the violence portrayed against a police officer as being especially brutal in the beginning… but more so for toxic waste man.

I remember reading about some unrated director’s cut release. Did this ever come out (sorry if it’s already like 10 years old, I’m always way behind the times on this stuff). I’d like to pick that up, though, if it’s available.

I’ve only seen this once but there’s a 2 disc with the original on one and the unrated director’s cut on the other. I don’t really remember what’s different about the Director’s Cut cuz I did see it OnDemand.

Thanks! I’ll keep my eyes open.

For the sake of not even 30 Seconds I’ll pass! I have the theatrical cut on bluray and that’s plenty decent!

Paul Verhoevens Science-Fiction classic from the year 1987 spawned two sequels, a TV series and two cartoon series in which the satirical undertone as well as the explicit violence of the brilliant original were watered down more and more.

The MPAA did not at all like Verhoevens first big American work as a director. What is called “NC-17” since 1990 was called “X” back then and this was exactly the rating the Director’s Cut received. Since an R-rating was demanded by contracts, Verhoeven had to trim the movie accordingly - several times without success. Eleven different versions received the infamous “X” which is mentioned in this clip for example.

The MPAA especially did not approve of the gory presentation of the prototype ED-209 and Murphys execution. the bloodiest shots were cut out of the first scene and a lot of alternative footage was used in the other - only the DC shows Murphy loosing an arm in the gunfire. On top of that, alternative footage has been used for the car chase at the beginning as well as in the finale.
The censorship of the ED-209 scene torpedoes Verhoevens initial intention. the scene was deliberately planned as comically exaggerated to get some laughs out of the audience with the “Somebody want to call a paramedic?” line - the dark humor is watered down in the edited version, as Verhoeven criticizes himself in the audio commentary. During Murphys execution an interesting dolly camera pan was cut along with the gory head shot where an elaborate Peter Weller dummy designed by SFX expert Rob Bottin had been used.

For home cinemas first a Laserdisc and the a DVD from Criterion containing the DC were released. Both releases are long since out of print - but fortunately the DC has been released on several DVD as well as on Blu-ray by now.

I was thinking… Maybe that suit is his police uniform and that pic we’re seeing of him is before he’s actually robocop?
I’m so awesome I quote myself!

Thanks! I’ll keep my eyes open.

You can get the 2 disc criterion release for a little over 50 bucks on ebay. Seller says it’s in pristine condition and out of print. Criterion website confirms it is indeed out of print. note these are DVDs not blu ray.

I saw the 2 disc used for way cheaper than that. Here in the bay we got Rasputin Music. Kinda like Amoeba but a wider chain. Difference is you can buy movies here. As long as it’s more than $3.95 used dvds come in near perfect condition. There’s even a porn section too.
