PHOENIXSPECTACLE: A Wax Trax! Retrospectacle Tribute 6/18/11

Don’t know if anyone would actually want to roadie to Phoenix, but I’m putting together a private, non-profit party for friends and guests to share the experience I had at Retrospectacle. Gonna run the album art slideshows just like at Metro, show a DVD of photos and live footage (pretty much everything linked here), play RevCo’s YGDSOB video, videos from the original samplers, and Wax Trax music during the night. The party will end with a live performance of cover songs by myself and a friend. Still hashing out the set list (trying not to play too long), but these are the contenders (includes a few PIAS bands, five of these are already finished):

All Day (Ministry)
We Shall Cleanse The World (Revolting Cocks)
Masterhit (Front 242)
A Giant On The Earth (Lead Into Gold)
Hatred (Lead Into Gold)
Apathy (1000 Homo DJs)
Man Should Surrender (Pailhead)
Whirlpool (Click Click)
Mambo Witch (A Split Second)
Second Shot (Cassandra Complex)
Sunken Lives (Trisomie 21)
Halloween (Ministry)
Attack Ships On Fire (Revolting Cocks)

I still need to need to finalize the location (it will be either my house, or a friend’s house right up the street). There will be food and drinks. Both houses have pools, and it will be late June in Phoenix, so don’t be surprised if it turns into a Wax Trax pool party. If anyone wants to PM me or post here about it, go for it. I can give more details in the next week or so. The date is a Saturday, FYI.

Here’s the preliminary ad:

Dang, Homie! You’re one ambitious son of a gun. Kind of makes me wish I was in Phoenix so I could rock out at your fiesta. Anyway, best wishes for your event!

The event sounds awesome! thats so much effort on your part, I hope the crowd appreciates it.

maybe a live webstream for us Prongers>?

Good idea!

i’d go if it was closer. good luck broheims.

Thanks, if all goes as planned, it will be be a fun night. I secured the ‘venue’ last night, which forced me to pull the date back one week to 6/18. filthpig, I like the idea of webcasting the event (at least the live performance). My friends are talking about putting up a big HD projection screen outside for the videos (their house is at the top of a hill overlooking Paradise Valley/Scottsdale…beautiful view), so people will be able to hang out in the pool and watch footage and what-not. Aside from possibly webcasting, I’m going to set up my camera to film the live set, so we have good quality video for YouTube and elsewhere.

Have any celebs shown any interest? Do any ex Wax Trax people live in that area?

Alice Cooper adopted Phoenix some time back. He even opened a metal/sports bar called Cooperstown – right by the D-Backs Stadium. It’s awesome.

I used to cover Phoenix as part of my territory. I wish I still had it as I could schedule a business trip and then hang through the weekend to party. Tenohtwo seems like a pretty rad dude!

I might actually be able to make this one.

Dang . . . looks like the party just got even more badass.

He didn’t adopt it.
It’s his original hometown.

You should invite Dave Wright/Not Breathing. But I think he lives in Tucson.

I don’t know the details of his bio or where he was born, but he was always more identified as part of the Detroit fabric, I thought.

Anyway, I’m glad he’s rooted back to Phoenix since I never go to Detroit.

I started working on the live set for 6/18 tonight, and it was a lot of fun. Sang vox on We Shall Cleanse The World, Apathy, and Don’t Stand In Line (decided on that one for Pailhead). We played a live electronic jam of Masterhit, and just for fun segued into Tragedy, which sounded surprisingly good, even without any samples. The next two weeks will involve lots of sampling and programming. I really want to nail these songs live. Anyway, I’m a bit fired up at the moment, so I’m dropping the update.

Interesting cover…never heard 242 played that way before. I had to go back to Evil Off to make sure I knew what song I was listening to! (been a while).

Currently trying to get a couple of female dancers to complement the live show.

I will have to think of a nicer name than ‘Revolting Pussies’… maybe ‘Wax Chix’.
