OT: Jesu

I finally got around to listening to the full length Jesu release. Brilliant.
Does anyone know if the Heartache EP is any good?
I can only imagine it is. And if so, any idea where I could get my hands on a copy? Amazon doesn’t seem to be selling it…

i actually prefer the ep to the full length album. i think “heartache” is amazing. and i almost never like songs 20 minutes long.

i saw the 2 albums in a detroit record store and the ep was like $20 while the cd was $14. any reason its so much more just for 2 songs? is that normal for these releases?

It’s a bit more expensive because the EP is a limited run. I don’t think they were expecting really huge sales on it. But I agree with you. I like the EP more than the album. Not to say that the album is bad because it’s damn near perfect IMO, I just really like the arrangements done with the EP. Especially on Ruined. Awesome track. =)

still not heard the album, but heartache is amazing. i found my copy in virgin, didn’t know it was hard to get, it was fairly reasonably priced as well. anyone from UK here? Jesu are touring with Isis.

don’t know where you’re located but you can order it right from the label, dryrun recordings:

www.dryrun.net

this record store just made it their record of the week, they do mail order and are very cool:

hope that helps.

Haven’t actually heard the album yet, …can’t find it anywhere, was gonna order it. the EP is excellent, though, I fucking love it.
Going to see Jesu with Isis on the 22nd of April… Can’t wait for that!! (",)

I agree, Jesu is brilliant. The album is awesome, one of the best albums I’ve heard since…well, Puppy’s latest album, but still :stuck_out_tongue:
the e.p. was awesome. I got it the day after it came out (over night shipping from amazon.co.uk) and I remember listening to it on a summer afternoon, with the sunset approaching, sitting in a chair looking out the window, closing my eyes…and when I next opened them, the e.p. was over, and the sun was down. truly awesome.
I zone out everytime I listen to the album, too. it just sets me in a whole new world.

I’m really digging the Jesu. I’ve used it to sleep to a few times now. [cool] Probably one of the best things I’ve heard so far this year, considering it’s the one of the newest things I’ve bought this year.

I like it’s dark brooding sounds and slow marches, then Man/Woman picks up a bit more in a Godflesh way, bit faster then the rest of the album. Love it all.

Have a shop trying to order Heartache, if not, I’ll find it online and buy it.

The PRP surprisingly did a review of the album. Gave it a 3.5/5 which isn’t bad, just not his cup of tea obviously. Link below.

That’s quite possibly the shoddiest and most unremarkable review I’ve ever read about Jesu. Everything else has been nothing but solid 4 and 5 stars reviews and with little to debunk the project. I like the way the review is written, but as you said… it apparently was not his cup of tea. As for my reviews, I think everything that Jesu has done is beyond brilliant, absolutely wonderful and pleasing to the bone.

I can’t find the Heartache EP anywhere, but does anyone have decent quality rips of it? I have it in 128kbps…

thanks

Afra, willing to order it offline or just looking for it in shops?

Amazon UK still has it for sale.

Else there’s Gemm. http://www.gemm.com/c/search.pl?currency=US&field=LABEL&wild=Dry+Run&Go!.x=35&Go!.y=11

Krowe, yeah. The PRP covers music news from a lot of sectors, but most of their staff seems to like more normal music. Jesu is a bit uncoventional for some people to handle. I was surprised to see a review of it over there myself. [;)]

@Afra, I have some decent rips.
How should I send them to you?

Just got the Heartache EP in the mail today.

After just one listen…stellar performance. Much ‘cleaner’ sounding than the LP. Yeah, it’s definitely won me over with it’s youthful charm and bravado. The word ‘angelic’ comes to mind.

Apparently when Justin first played the album to his mother, she burst out in tears and pronounced:

‘I’m so glad you have found your wings, my love. Now go forth and spread your seed and grant me the wish of becoming a grandamamma. Let not the fruits of my labours all be in vain’.

I ordered the EP last year directly from the site of the label, Dry Run: dryrun.net

For the album, a Japanese version released by Daymare came out at least one month earlier than the Hydrahead version (received mine begining of December). This Japanese version is a double CD version, with two nice remixes by Justin on the second CD (from ‘Your Path To Divinity’ and ‘Friends Are Evil’). I ordered mine from gemm.com (didn’t find it easily).

Two nice reviews of the EP and album can be found here:

I have it in 192 and 256… You can jump on SLSK and grab it from me (Krowe) or I can email it to you or whatever… Just let me know what you want to do Afra. =)

Thanks guys, but someone here already sent me the files. I appreciate it…

No problem… Did you also get the Japanese 2nd CD, with the two remixes? “Your Path To Divinity(Highest Throne)” and “Friends Are Evil (Endless Path)”? If not then I can whisk those over to you… They’re really nice too… A bit more ambient than the original ones.

Peace!

Krowe

That’s probably my favourite song off that album.
I’m quite fond of We All Faulter too…

I just ordered the EP off the net so we’ll see.

Krowe, you may find me getting the files off you on Soulseek soon, since I don’t think I can wait until the EP comes in the mail. (perhaps the remixes as well…)

In case none of you know and care to, Jesu IS coming to the US with Pelican as direct support. They will be touring the US between July 23 - August 23 (not long is it?)… They plan to hit as many major places as they can, and probably no repeat dates. Also… No opening bands have been mentioned yet but they will be released soon enough and also there are no specific dates sets yet, but they should also be released soon.

So for those of you who care… now ya know. I’ll keep everyone posted as more info comes up and I’d really like to see some of you at some of the shows if you can get to them. Should be a hella live show.

Peace!

Krowe

After seeing it mentioned oh so many times here, I’m curious about Jesu. What sort of music is it and where’s a good place to start?
