OT: Jesu

After seeing it mentioned oh so many times here, I’m curious about Jesu. What sort of music is it and where’s a good place to start?

Just imagine you had to dredge the sludge from the bottom of a swamp. Jesu is what you would be listening to.
Krowe would probably be the best person to give you a description of the music itself. Keep it mind it’s really slow.

As for where to start…They (he) only have two releases:

the Heartache EP
and the self titled album.

The music is HEAVY, it can be heavier than the harshest industrial or metal, yet like previously mentioned, it’s SLOW. imagine heavy riffs slowed down, with reverb added, with dreamy vocals with tons of delay on it. it’s very good, hard to describe with words really. it’s catchy too.

Its basically a more synthy and atmospheric Godflesh…
It also has some drone doom elements.

I think yr missing the point.

Imagine ssetting up yr audio system in an underground network of caves and playing a Swans album (say…Filth) at the wrong speed (slow) and listening to the sound bounce off the walls of the cave in an endless crescendo of reverb. That’s kind of it right there.

The music is dense and claustrophobic and at times broken.

I finally downloaded the EP last night.
Heartache (the song) is a wonderful piece of music.
Hopefully I’ll get around to listening to Ruined tonight.

On another note (and please don’t laugh too hard at this…) Since I’ve only ever read the word, how do you pronounce Jesu? (is it g-sue, jeh-sue, or something else) Seems to me like it should be jeh-sue…

Thanks.

“yee-a-sue” or something like that, judging by how Justin himself pronounces it in the song “Jesu” on Hymns…

pretty cool stuff…I’m not hearing the difference btw Jeasu & godflesh. That’s a good thing [angelic]

Yr still MISSING THE POINT!!

sheesh

got the album the other day. it’s brilliant, but i think i prefer the ep. i love “we all faulter”, though “walk on water” bores the tits off me.

Yeah, I got the EP shipped from the UK the other day and got the album from a used CD store here. “We all faulter” is very good as is “Friends are evil” and “Tired of me”. If you like Godflesh, you’ll dig “Man/Woman” (though you’ll probably like the whole album anyways).

i’m really enjoying the ep.

what’s this about a US tour? anything confirmed?

The only thing actually confirmed is that they are touring the US in maybe late June, definately July, and some maybe in August and that Pelican is their support. =)

They are touring in Europe with Isis (and Dalek). To mention that Roderic Mounir from Knut is playing drums live in place of Ted Parsons…
