OT : Computer Games

Any of you guys play computer games? I play Half-Life 2, Tribes 2, Battlefield 2, and Neverwinter Nights.

I was just curious if anyone else on the board does and online gaming.

I play games on PS2 and stuff. But never online.

I’ve always thought it seemed cool…but never got around to it.

I play the Star Wars games - Jedi Academy & Outcast, Battlefront, KOTOR Sith Lords, never online, just by myself. I also like to fire up the emulators - X26 (Atari 2600), MAME (Arcade), and PinMAME (namely Attack From Mars).

Ever played Manhunt? That one is pretty brutal.

I used to play games alot; then I found better things to do with my time
Nowadays it’s mainly just America’s Army I play online, and a bit of GTA.

shit yeah…action games…area 51, half-life 2, doom iii, bloodlines etc. adventure games too…voyage

between action & adventure…I’ve probably played them all…finishing them is a different story…lol

I’m into survival horror on the consoles - Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, Silent Hill, etc. I also play old Nintendo and Sega Genesis games on my PC. It’s funny you brought up PC games, though, because I’m playing my first “official” one: American Mcgee’s ALICE. To know how cool it is, all you have to do is read the cover - “Wonderland, once merely odd, evilly altered by anger and dread”, and " Original soundtrack composed and arranged by Chris Vrenna". That’s all it took to get my attention. As for MMORPG’s, I’ll never play them, because I’m an addict, and I know I’ll get hooked. So fuck that.

man hunt did kick ass. [:)]

of all the recent games i was pretty much disappointed by doom3 and hl2, but painkiller kicked my ass.

as of now, i’m sorta playing castlevania symphony of the night and castlevania aria of sorrow, as well as pc’s shadow warrior (playing the long lost official addon wanton destruction), oh yeah, i loved tetris the grand master, and now tetris gm 2 plus got emulated in MAME (sort of) and i’m playing the hell of it.

Yeah, I think the games industry is taking the Hollywood apporach of making the entire content a load of random explosions and stupid shit without any actual substance, not saying that it is impossible to do, but the only recent action game that hasn’t pissed me off recently has been Deus Ex (the original, not the piss-poor sequel.) That game had a kick-ass story that made the game actually worth playing, and actually required thought to complete.

The only PC game I’m on is World of Warcraft. Video games are one of my nom de plums. On consoles I’m playing through Crimson Sea 2 (PS2), Burnout Revenge (XBox), Ys VI (PS2), and starting to play back through Shenmue II (Xbox). Honestly, I recommend Indigo Prophecy to anyone right now. I got the demo from OXM a few weeks ago and it is absolutely amazing for the 10 minutes of play included. Its like the old point and click adventures for the PC and Sega CD. You know, the ones where its your character at the bottom of a pre-rendered background and you have the hand cursor. In the first five minutes, I killed a man while possessed, had to stash the body, and ate breakfast with the police only a few feet away. The game measures your stress level as you try to manage your sanity ALA Eternal Darkness. This game will become the new flagship of the game industry I hope, true I havent played the whole thing, but far more interesting than another Final Fantasy or Medal of Honor. Best of all, it comes out Tuesday in the states (think its already out in Europe under the name Fahrenheit).

cool. nice to know we have other gamers here. if you guys ever play half-life Deathmatch 1 or Half-Life Deathmatch 2 I run servers for both. Stop by sometime. I pretty much stick to my PC for gaming due to the hardware I have in my PC. I 've got one of those nVidia 6800 GT 256MB graphics cards. It smokes.

Here are my servers:
HL1DM name: Dedicated Crossfire DM
HL2DM name: SlackLove Atlanta DM

My game nick is “SoulPatch”, say hello if you ever see me around.

I’m mostly a FPS (first person shooter) guy. But i also love a good RPG, and I pretty much only play the “offical” dungeons and dragons RPGs (i.e. baulder’s gate 1 & 2, and Neverwinter Nights).

I’m pretty much the same, although I prefer RPGs over FPSs. I still love a good deathmatch, although my preference is for the old-school Quake-type gameplay, rather than all of those modern ‘realistic’ games. For this reason, I often play Nexuiz online (instagib railguns:)). Its a free game based on the Quake code and it plays really similar to Quake 3 Arena.

Hmm, this thread got me thinking…

A couple of years ago, I designed a PinMAME Revolting Cocks pinball table, and had uploaded it to mrfusion’s FTP site. Don’t know if anyone here has PinMAME on their machines, but if yer interested in the “Super RevCo” pinball game, PM me and I can send you the file. It’s just under 6 MB in size. “No Devotion” plays throughout the duration of the game, and the bumpers have samples from Big Sexy Land and YGDSOB. The table art is from various RevCo albums and singles. It’s not the most challenging pinball game, but is fun when you’re in a RevCo mood. I also have a Severed Heads pinball table that somebody else designed 3 or 4 years ago.

Oh yeah, to play it, you’ll want to d/l the necessary files from here:

Thanks for the link! I love video pinball games.

Mostly play PS2 games–love platformers, racing games and GTA. Also spend a lot of time on old arcade ROMS on my computer. Don’t have the money to continually upgrade my computer to play the latest cutting edge FPS.

Holy shit Tenohtwo, thats awesome! Big ol phatty kudos.

Anywhoo, me loves that American McGee’s Alice game as well, like Alice In Wonderland on a very good or very bad acid trip. I dont play much computer stuff though except for NES and SNES games through emulators and shit. Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat series, Final Fantasy shtuff [anything pre FF10 is fucking gold, easpecially FF9 {yeh im a damn nerd}], and Super Mario Brothas series, among other oldschool 90s exquisite crap. Love me them fighting games as well (Tekken, Marvel vs. Capcom stuff, Mortal Kombat dealies, Street Fighter shite, etc…) Also been a big fan of Playstation uno and two, for a bit, love me some GTA one through San Andreas, always good stuff. Love anything with detestable amount of gore, (Soldier of Fortune, Manhunt, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc…) and anything first person shooter (Area 52, Timsplitters stuff, Soldier of Fortune, blah blah.) They need to make a realistic survival horror gore-tastic Super Mario, 3d action game with lots of submachine guns and revolvers, thatd be the perfect game ever.

Phew. Point is, videogames, in general, fucking rule no matter what system your into most. [angelic][:P][:)]

1002 that rules
i play battlefield 2, silent hunter III, and il-sturmovik

I’m inot games.
Taken a break from mmorpg’s for the moment
World of Warcraft and Anarchy Online.

For the moment I’m playing
MechWarrior 4 and Silent Storm.

I tend to play more of RPG’s than other games.
Thinking of bying HL2 just to get the deathmatch… thingy.

All time favourite games
Fallout 1 & 2
Monkey Island… all of them… play them every now and then just for the laughs.

Wow, a lot of people here seem to be playing WoW. I got a 10 day guest pass of a friend, and to be honest I can’t really see what the whole fuss is about; I played for about 6 days; then I got bored of just constantly running around killing random crap so I could get enough XP to level… it gets old after like, 5 minutes. I got to about lvl 12 before I gave up; and I was damn thankful I got a guest pass instead of actually buying the game and spending REAL money on that crap…

i don’t get mmorpg at all. i fucking hate it. tons of people running around, doing their stuff. then they form a clan/party/whatever and go hunt some ‘cool’ creatures. then they go to the messageboards and post ‘omg heres teh kewl pix how we party’d yesturday lol’ and ‘look at my nice new shiney grade C armor’ and stuff like that and everyone goes ‘omg that’s kool!’.

i don’t get it. i just dont. i mean, i tolerate some rpg, like castlevania symphony of the night or something like that. but crap like wow or lineage2 is beyond my understanding. it’s the same as if i would play sims2 and also post ‘teh cool pix’ on the forums.

Eh, for me WoW is a good way to keep up with friends who are in schools other places or jobs in other cities. You do have to commit yourself to get satisfaction from the stories and questing, which why I find it rare right now between work and school. I think the enviorments are amazing in WoW and unique experiences abound, like running on your way to Thunder Bluffs and on the Southern Gold Road you find a guy 7 levels below you getting attacked by Alliance so you jump in a help the poor guy out. Befor eoyu know, random battle. However, if you play alliance, plan to play alone.
