I used to want to go over there until I learned you can’t actually ride around in the kangaroo pouches.
Well, technically you can.
I spent one drunken night with two friends in Sydney, breaking into this enclosure by climbing over this wall and…er, actually what transpired next is best left unsaid.
When Oprah asks Travolta (who will be piloting the Qantas plane with Oprah and all her guests on it…hang on, doesn’t Oprah have her OWN plane?!?) what he likes most about Australia, he replies…
“…and when you arrive you are greeted by the most warm and friendly laid back people you could ever meet”.
Cripes! I hope they stay away from Redfern or Bankstown. Seriously folks you have no idea about this place. I lived in California for 15 years and saw all kinds of shit and I can safely say that you guys ain’t gont nothin’ on us when it comes to scary places. I suppose all you guys ever see of Down Under are montages filled with lush rainforests, crystal clear beaches, cute cuddly marsupials, the Opera House, Ayers Rock and The Harbour Bridge. It ain’t all like that - you have to gloss over alot of ugly shit to make Australia sparkle like that. It’s fuckin’ downright dangerous in parts, if the truth be told. Really fucking dangerous. Just ask the Indian students who come here. Try travelling on a train at night by yer lonesome and then come back and tell me how peachy keen you are about “Assies”.
There are places her that make Compton or The Bronx seem downright cosy. Even the United Nations is sceptical of us (and they let shit like Rwanda slide) and have criticised us as of late for our ‘racism’ and for the appalling state that we allow many of our citizens to live in. Crime is so bad in parts now that cops simply don’t even bother filing a report whenever shit goes down.
Anyway, to hell with Oprah and ‘Oprah Culture’ in general.

That place started as a criminal colony so I completely believe this.

What happened with the Indian students

whenever the land of oz is in the news here (that I’ve seen) over the last 20 years it’s for some political candidate’s racism against the aborigines. that was like 10-12 years ago, though. I haven’t heard anything since though. Hadn’t heard of your poverty either.
Anyway, to hell with Oprah and ‘Oprah Culture’ in general.
Someone made horror movie not too long ago (I think it was 2006) about a redneck Australian who slaughtered some college aged back-packers who got more than they bargained for… apparently it was based on a true story…
Well as grim as it all sounds I’m glad America doesn’t have the patent on horrible ghettos… I’ve grown up outside of Chicago my whole life and even though Cabrini Green is mostly gone still to this day people die every week in certain neighborhoods on the westside and southside…
Gah, the world is scary… the middle class is dying and that seems to mean that all of us who aren’t rich will be living in some kind of dangerous ghetto sometime soon…

I think that was “Wolf Creek” which was one of the better horror films of the last couple years. For a film that referenced Crocodile Dundee numerous times it was surprisingly void of comedy!
On the other hand, a number of Indian/foreign students have murdered (in one case, a child), assaulted, committed rape and sexual assault and in one case, set his car on fire to commit insurance fraud and then blamed it on a racist attack.
And if you look more closely at some of these assault claims - which have the rest of the world shaking their collective fists at our so called ‘racism’ - you will find that a large percentage of the perpetrators were from non white backgrounds. Some were even Indian themselves. So you have Indians/Asians/Middle Easterners immigrants attacking foreigners and ‘white Australia’ takes the blame. Once again.
There was a study recently into the attacks on foreigners in Victoria to supposedly uncover a pattern of ‘racist’ behavior. The study however failed to incorporate the background ethnicity of the perpetrators. Why? What are they scared of uncovering? The fact that ‘white Australians’ aren’t as xenophobic as the they’re being made out to be?
If a violent crime is committed by a non white, then why is it ‘racist’ to reveal the ethicity of the attacker?

because that would feed a stereotype that the greater populace apparently wants to erase which in turn feeds a new stereotype white aussies are racist… the pendulum will swing back the other way eventually
Late,

‘White guilt’ used as a means to deflect the real problems politicans/the media/etc are too ashamed to deal with.
