I hope this isnt indicitive of the rest of the album. The music itself is not bad but Glenn sounds like he has a cold and his vocals are sitting way on top of the rest of the recording. It just seems really amateur. His voice isnt really on point. Not sure if its not mixed well or what but damn im underwhelmed.
Yeah that was really bad. It’s almost like a talk-over from a movie or something.
Yeah something is off with this track…couldn’t get in to it…that album cover was a bad omen…
I thought the track sucked big-time, but I’m not even remotely surprised. Danzig hasn’t had a good original since “Black Angel, White Angel,” the production on “Skeletons” was sub par… He can still kick it hard live, but in the studio, he just doesn’t know what he’s doing. The best thing he could do for his recording career at this point would be to re-team with Rick Rubin for a semi-unplugged album, with songs in the vein of “Sistinas” and “Thirteen.”
The best thing that Danzig could do is duct tape M80’s to Tommy Victor’s hands and light the fuses. The sooner that fucker looses all his fingers the better we’ll all be. My ears can only handle so much rape.
Ouch. That is not good.
not a danzig fan. never really have been. but, wow, that vocal. i haven’t heard any of his other music other than his radio and movie songs, so i don’t know if he’s slowly progressed to this. but wow. he’s done.
Sheesh. That was weird. The music is decent, but the vocals,…WTF!?
Glenn’s ego and control freak nature have destroyed this band. If he would accept outside help, and constructive criticism, his sales would sky rocket.
His collaborations with Rick Rubin were amazing. That is what I would most like to see.
What the hey? Sounds like a drunk guy singing along to his favourite instrumental-rock record in his living room. I would have drowned that sorry vocal with effects and put it WAY down in the mix. Oh well
Sounds like age has finally caught up with his voice.
He actually sounds a lot like Joe Buck on this track but Buck is more musically interesting.
who ever mixed the new Danzig album should be tied to a fucking rocket and launch into the goddamn sun!
Well, I went ahead and bought Black Laden Crown anyway. And while the mix of the album (including the song that was posted on youtube) is not as bad as that song posted on youtube the mix is still pretty bad. It’s not nearly has bad as the Skeletons mix, though. Honestly, it’s not without its charm. It sounds like it was inspired by Danzig IV and recorded like Samhain Initium. It’s actually not a terrible album although it’s definitely a drop in danzig quality for sure.
I fucking LOVE the new album. It’s the first one in the last 20 years that I can listen to from start to finish. It’s dark and don’t as fuck and Glenn, while aged, is capitalizing on that shit and digging deep for some really tasty crooning that’s as sexy as it is demonic.
There are no pop out radio hits, but I think it’s his most consistently good album since the end of the golden era (Biscuits, Christ, Eerie, and producer Rick Rubin).
I’ve been listening to this one for over a week and it’s not left my player (car stereo) once.
I’m not as enthusiastic about it as Gunner is but it has grown on me after a few listens…I need to give it a few more go’s…
Well, I can say I was pleasantly surprised. After that youtube release i wasnt expecting much. I do agree with gunnar i dont think there is a dud in the album. I cant believe im even saying this because i have such a tin ear when it comes to mixing but the only thing wrong with it is the production. And i never usually notice things like that unless it’s really bad.
Also, it’s the first album with Tommy VĂctor where I didn’t immediately start planning to find him and chop off his hands.

Haha thats funny cause im more aware of sqealies now because of your hate for tommy victor squealying every other note. And there is a fair amount of squealies on this album. So im kinda surprised you dig it as much as you do.
If people try this album hoping for some catchy sing songy pop or monster rock hit (yeah, I know the terms are weird with Danzig, but bear with me).
There is no “Mother” or “Twist of Cain” or “Under Black Wings” or anything of the sort. Closest it comes to rock-consumer-friendly is “Devil On Hwy 9”. The rest is depressive, moody, dark, murky, sinister doom.
For those needing a reference point for this album, I’d say take the most depressive swampy dirges from Danzig III and IV (“Going Down To Die”, “When The Dying Calls”) and add some of the dirty Bayou bluesiness off Lucifuge along with some of that overbearing heavy Satanic mass stuff from “I, Luciferi” and “Circle Of Snakes”.
I think it’s a great album for driving out into the middle of the desert to dispose of a corpse. It’s really oppressive and dark.
I’m just really excited about it because it feels to me like that album that Danzig is supposed to make NOW. He’s 60 years old and he’s not singing like Josh Groban . . . . he’s singing like a grizzled old witch who sees death in front of him every second.
He still makes the mistake live of trying to be 30 year old aggro-Danzig, but I’m hoping he dials that shit back and focuses more on the crooning and ballad stuff.
I’m really looking forward to the Elvis album . . . . which we are now told won’t be until 2018 (I guess BLC can hold me off for now, though, haha).
Ok, So I’e been playing this non stop for the last three or four days and it’s definitely grown on me. I think Devil On HWY 9 is probably my least liked track of the whole album. Although, still an ok track. But, man, Pull The Sun is fucking superb!! Easily my favorite track on the album. I’ve come to not really mind the production of it anymore as it kinda suits the feel of the album.
I like Gunnar’s description of driving into the middle of the desert to dispose of a corpse. I wouldn’t go that far, but it certainly is a desert night album with a fuck ton of stars clearly seen over head. maybe a shallow breeze blowing for some faint noise beside the music.
It creates a mood that is more noticeable than the music itself.
Danzig posted a new video.

He wouldn’t have to disable the comments if the video wasn’t so goofy.
