He wouldn’t have to disable the comments if the video wasn’t so goofy.
Seriously? I liked the video. Beautiful blondie with a beautiful smile. He should have lead off the album with this single instead of devil on hwy 9. He should see an uptick in sales now that some of the leery fans see that it doesnt sound like crap. Man, i dont know what was up with the first single release but it sounded awful on youtube.
I have a bit of a sliding scale when it comes to Danzig videos since there is a large portion of seriously AWFUL videos. And for this one I went in VERY cautiously as the last one we got from him was “NIB” . . . . . a lazy and uninspired cover of a cliché-choice song which featured a horribly lazy and uninspired cliché video. The video was so stupid it almost ruined tits for me.
But the LAST RIDE video was properly decent. It had a really cool noir feel to it, like old “Twilight Zone” or something. It wasn’t groundbreaking or anything, but it was pleasing enough and fit the song without getting too cheesy or too serious.
And, yeah, I’m still LOVING the new album. Looking forward to that Elvis album eventually.
But first . . .

I think I realized that a big part of my problem with this video is how silly the girl’s makeup is. It’s like she’s dressed like Bob Dog from Mr. Rogers.

I saw Danzig a week ago on Long Island. His voice is good when he’s singing, but during the in-between-songs banter, he sounded like Bobcat Goldthwaite (sp?). Oddly enough, the pit was more interesting than the band – truly brutal, just a couple of kids who wanted nothing more than to beat the shit out of each other.
On another note: Danzig played “III: How The Gods Kill” at Riot Fest in its entirety – almost. He left out “Sistinas.” How someone leaves off the best song on the album is beyond me.
I was at Riot Fest and his Danzig 3 set was badass. He explained that they wouldn’t do Sistinas because he wanted the orchestral parts to be live behind it, so they didn’t do it. Sucks I agree, it’s one of my favs on there.
Danzig’s voice between songs sounds like he’s got emphysema or cigarette voice or something, but…it’s whatever, he’s an older guy, it’s easy to goof on Danzig but he did do a good job on his set and also Misfits last year.
Was Tommy Victor on guitar? Didn’t have my glasses on.

Glad to hear there was a legitimate reason for leaving “Sistinas” off the set list. I don’t know if Victor was there at Riot Fest, but he was at the Paramount a week ago. Did you listen for the constantly squealing guitar?
It wasn’t bad! Seriously. But the real fun was everyone (and I) around me imitating Danzig before and throughout the set. Oh, Danzig. We hate because we love.
The Danzig group I run on Facebook sometimes does collaborative videos. We all film ourselves doing lip syncing and doing goofy shit and then one of our members, who is a video editing genius, puts it all together to make a video.
We had decided to do Sistinas in celebration of Danzig’s coming HTGK set for Riot Fest and it was posted the day before the concert.
We laughed later saying he omitted the song from his set because he couldn’t compete with us.
I think it was a package agreement.
They backed his shit show of a movie and got to put out his ELVIS album as trade.
Of course, Cleo being Cleo, the vinyl that people are getting is warped about 90% of the time and rife with skips and other issues.
The Cleopatra trash pile aside, I quite like the album. It could definitely be BETTER if a producer had roped in the instrumentation (very minimalist) and the whole thing was mixed cleaner without the metric tons of screaching reverb, but . . . . the strength of the songs themselves combined with Danzig’s rich vocals is still a win in my book. I really hope I get to hear this stuff live some day (the LA show would have been last week).
Anyway, if someone likes 50’s music and stuff like doowop and traditional rockabilly, or if they are already an Elvis fan AND a Danzig fan, this is a tasty treat. If someone is looking for some dark edgy metal or punk record they should stay the fuck away.
I think the mix is actually really good. not the shitty job that was done on Skeletons, with every song being recorded at a different volume. Elvis really has grown on me. I think it’s really a good record. Pocket full of Rainbows i think is my favorite right now.
I was disappointed with my Vinyl. I got it through Amazon so I didn’t get a colored vinyl I just got the generic black vinyl. I woulda loved to have a pink or a green vinyl.
funny you think Danzig’s voice is rich on this. It sounds really thin to me and I don’t hear a whole lot of screech reverb… I do like the minimalist approach I wish his voice was fuller since he’s not competing with the instruments.
In truth, I haven’t yet been able to listen to hard copy (CD in my case) as my CD players are broken both in my car and home. I’ve also heard the vinyl sounds better than other formats.
After Verotika and a cursory listen to the Elvis record (not even the whole thing), I’m officially bored with the guy. I stand by the first 4 albums. But, dude has zero vision anymore. That movie is hilariously awful. While I appreciate him not Danzig-ing the Elvis songs, rather staying closer to the “feel” of the original recordings, absolutely no part of it excited me in any way.
Black Laden Crown has 4 decent songs on it, but if he never releases any new music again, I can totally live with that.
^ Not sure what styles of music you enjoy most, but I would highly recommend checking out LUCIFUGE to start. Just listen to it start to finish. It’s the greatest combo of rock and roll and blues ever. The follow up, “How The Gods Kill” is fully awesome too, and people will fight over which of these two are better. If by some weird chance you don’t like either of those, you can definitely close the book and move on.
Me too. 2,3 4,1 is the order I rank them. Deth red Sabbaoth is really pretty good and a return to those roots in some respects. I would say Black Laden Crown is exponentially better than Deth Red and could easily jump in between 3 and 4 for me. (Although 4 has such a suffocating atmosphere that is unrivaled by almost anything which makes it hard for me to listen to in it’s entirety now… but that could be just because what was going on in my life while I was listening to it. who knows?)
I’ve since gone back and listened to Circle of Snakes and Iluciferi and they’re not too bad. I liked them when they first came out cause it wasn’t Danzig trying to do industrial but I shelved 'em pretty quick, but now I got some love for 'em. I think iLuciferi is better than Circle of snakes but theyre essentially a double album.
I gotta check out more of those later releases…I know them a bit but need to give them more spins…he kind of lost me on Danzig 5 but I ended up appreciating that album a bit more down the line…think I’ll jump back in and give some of those others some more listens…
