Prussian Blue - The Path We Chose
So, in all honesty, are you listening to this because it’s a novelty, or because you’re a bigot or a pedophile? Or do you just listen to bland, boring pop?

Purely into pop. Loooove pop.
Actually, I d’loaded the damn thing for free and listened out of curiousity. For the record it was puerile.
Also, I watched a very insightful documentary on the collapse of Third Reich t’other day. Very informative too.
Does that make me a Nazi? A bigot?
My girlfriend is Asian. Best friend is Jewish/Italian.
Oh btw, go fuck yourself. Cunt.
Just checking. Heck, I love novelty too. Novelty is the main reason I’ve got Klank and Blackhouse CDs. And when I read about PB, I couldn’t help but listen to it for a little bit. But I guess I never got super defensive after mentioning it.

Hair Police. Evil noise. Kites I haven’t heard, but I’ve read some pretty negative reviews. What are they like?
So…you like ‘noise’ bands! OK cool. What else are you into? Noxagt? Heard of them?
I guess Strangeways is another album, I’ve been spinning recently. Good stuff. Way better than the Queen is Dead.
Strangeways…better than The Queen Is Dead? C’mon now, we all know that Strangeways is really Morrissey’s first solo album.

Honestly, I don’t have anything against TQID, but my friends kind of overhyped it for me, and I prefer Strangeways’ production. They’re about equal in the songwriting department, though.

You need a stiff drink and a lie down, son.
No good Morrissey albums? Oh please…:
Southpaw Grammar
Bona Drag
Your Arsenal
And I was just beginning to respect you. Hmmmm.
All jokes aside, seriously reconsider. Morrissey has done tremendously well since The Smiths broke up. I actually prefer his East End ‘hard’ man image to that of the wilting wallflower bedroom dweller.
I actually have no problems with Bona Drag, but it’s not something I can listen to all the way through - unlike a lot of Smiths albums. I appreciate you not not being a dick, Peligro - you seem like a cool dude, except that our senses of humor are about fifty miles apart. What I’m getting at is that I actually agree with you 9/10 about the music, but not so much about anything else…
I knew I was gonna get some shit about that comment (Smiths over Morrissey), but I’m glad you weren’t an ass about it. It all comes down to personal taste: I simply prefer The Smiths to Morrissey’s personal stuff. And yes, I’ve heard every bit of it - I don’t give up simply becuase I heard one track I didn’t like. And I certainly don’t mean that there’s no merit to it…that fifty-some year old virgin can still belt out the tunes! It’s just a personal preference - that I really dig “Strangeways” for the ironic balladry while dislking the solo work for the actual ballads. I’m kinda the sort that’ll listen to any damn thing, as long as it’s never been on the radio. This leaves me open to all kinds of things, and perhaps someday I’ll come around to the Morrissey view. At the moment, I’m gonna stick with what I grew up on, though. And that would be The Smiths.
Also, embarassingly enough, “Sous Hit” (as an album) isn’t half bad. Where do you find these goodies?
Update - is anyone digging the new Depeche Mode like I am? I’ll admit I haven’t been much of a fan since '96 or so, but I bought a copy half-priced at the local booksellers, and I must say, I am impressed! Best work in a good, long while, according to me. Curious to see what you guys think…
I’m actually a big fan of all Smiths and Morrissey (though Moz laid a couple of eggs with Kill Uncle and Quarry). My favorite Morrissey album is still Viva Hate. I seem to recall that after Strangeways and the break-up, Morrissey was going to continue as The Smiths with members of Easterhouse, but it didn’t pan out. Probably a good thing, if Waiting For The Redbird was any indication (though Contenders was a fine album).
I’m also a huge DM fan, but for some reason the new album just isn’t grabbing me as classic or memorable. Maybe it was overhyped for me, but aside from Precious and Suffer Well, the rest of the album is either mediocre or just forgettable. Regardless, it’s much better than Exciter, but that’s about it. I did see them live for this tour, and it was a really good show.

I also don’t like Sting without The Police. Suppose it can’t be helped.
Did you ever hear The Soul Cages, from 1990? It’s a dark, introverted album, easily Sting’s best. I can understand people not liking Sting’s solo material. His last album was completely awful (he’s been getting pretty stale for the past 10 years), but somehow I’ve managed to be a fan of his stuff overall (though The Police was much better). Check out The Soul Cages, it might be the one Sting album you’d actually like.

Depeche Mode is one of my top 5 bands. I’m listening to Some Great Reward as I type this and listened to most of their albums again last night. Playing the Angel is defintitely their best album since SoFaD. Ultra and Exciter were pretty spotty(with some great singles, though), but they’ve turned things around I think. It’s not perfect and it won’t be remembered as a classic, but it definitely has more standout songs than the last two albums, and quite a few of the songs would rank amongst their best work. Favorite tracks are John the Revelator and Precious. The last three songs are really good, too. Some of the songs are kinda bland, though.

The new Depeche Mode was pretty mediocre when I heard it.
A lot of it had that kind of Nine Inch Nails wannabee psuedo-Industrial vibe with those shitty distorted synths and sounds and shit.
Some cool keyboard solos and whatnot though…and some good songwriting here and there.
It’s clear that Depeche Mode has not evolved much. Still that same old “dark pop” shit with lyrics that just scream effeminate goth dude.
I don’t understand why they don’t do something really stripped down with minimal electronics and acoustic guitar etc. I think that could be cool.

River of Haze is a limited edition CD released on the Gods of Tundra label. It is one track about 30 minutes long that employs a lot of gongs and metallic percussion, saxophone, horns, and circuit bent shit.
It’s more of a freeform jam type thing. No drum machine so it’s not like the more beat-oriented songs they’re famous for.
I picked it up at the recent Wolf Eyes tour w/Sightings and Prurient which btw was an awesome tour.
Really gives a sense of where the band is going. They seem determined to ditch the drum machine beats and do this dark abysmal droning type shit. It also features the dude from Hair Police who is a regular Wolf Eyes member now.
I’ve heard Slicer and I think it’s pretty good. Not their best. I also own Dead Hills, Dread, Burned Mind and the self-titled debut which is absolutely a hilarious, fun listen and sounds nothing like what they became.
What Wolf Eyes do you have?
I plan to buy some more of their material when I see them live this Saturday at No Fun Fest.
As for Kites, I only own Peace Trials and would describe it as part of this new movement that people are calling “freak folk”. It basically attempts to balance noise music and folk music.
Overall, the approach doesn’t entirely work as well as it might but it’s definitely a decent album throughout and has some great moments.
I can send you mp3s or whatever of any of this shit that you might want.
As for Noxagt, they are definitely not a Noise band, although they fit quite snugly into the Noise Rock category. I only own the Iron Point album, which I think is pretty good although they’re not my favorite Noise Rock outfit.
Christonabun - haven’t had a chance to listen to the whole Fairport download yet. I’ll let you know what I think.

I agree that that would be very cool. I have a few acoustic songs that are sort of like that. But I don’t have a problem with what they’re doing now. I’ll admit it doesn’t sound like anything drastically new, but it sounds pretty much like a mix of their last three albums, which is good enough for me. I really like Nine Inch Nails too, though, so I guess that could explain why I would like DM.
The distortion on some songs seems kinda forced, though. I’ll give you that.
