pretty stoked i just saw scott neidermayer resigned with the ducks for 2 years as well as temu salani. Not as excited about selani, i think he should’ve hung it up after the cup but he’s good for ticket sales…
Glad I’ll be able to see my boy skate circles around the comp without having to wait for his team to come to town or drive any farther to see him play!!

Canadiens have won 5 out of 7 preseason games. Aw yeah!
The Coyotes showed some promise last season, but they’re still a young squad. No high expectations, I just want them to end this 6-year playoff drought, it’s killin’ me!

Brizkolov will march your squad to the playoffs! Ducks made a crappy decision to keep the old veteran rather than keep the younger better player!

I hope so. We acquired Olli Jokinen over the summer, hopefully he’ll be a big help. He’s been on the ice for a lot of our goals in the preseason (1-5, oh well). We beat the Sharks 5-1 on Monday, but lost last night in OT, 4-3.

Unless the sharks have done some major restructering that’s a pretty solid win! even if it is in preseason! so Coyotes might be on to something good!

Red Wings 2009 Champions of Lord Stanley’s Cup.
WHO? [:)]
Just kidding, although not so impressive mainly cause they are a legacy team!

Maybe we can get the Yankees to win the World Series, Cowboys to win the Super Bowl, and the Lakers to win the NBA Finals to complete the Most Hated Team cycle?

yeah i think the wings have to be the favorites right now. same team as last year minus hasek with the addition of hossa. anything can happen in the playoffs but i fully expect the wings to win the prez trophy if their goalies can remotely stay healthy. and even if not their d is so good whoever is in net will only have to stop 20 shots a game.
aren’t all of those most hated teams also the most liked teams? funny how that works.
I’m thinking Detroit is looking pretty damn good as well. But where’s the heart?

LoL! used to be a Laker fan until everybody started swingin from the nuts of that no talent spoiled cry-baby Bryant!! Although, gotta give Bryant some credit, had he not ruined my team, I probably never would’ve picked up hockey full time! Now it’s tough to watch any basketball when compared against any hockey!! It’s funny in how a little over 10 years my two sports have switched, Basketball used to be the main sport and I’d check out hockey every once in a while (mostly the devils cause I liked brodeur-saw a montage of his highlights on a newscast I was impressed) now I watch all kinds of hockey and pick up a Basketball game every now and again…I’m usually board by them though.

I think the bus only rolls in for those crowds, only when the teams are doing well.

I’ll keep the smack to a minimum, I’ve got teams that still need to win their first rings in this town.

What do you mean where’s the heart? 4 Stanely cups since 1997 is not an easy task by any means. As a fan since the Dead Things era, I’m enjoying some winning for a change.

I guess… you do claim after all to be hockey town after all. =) That’s pretty ballsy.
Even though we all know that MTL is the real hockey town! We need to win this year for our 100th year!
Sorry… I’m Canadian and I (sterotypically) love hockey. (and beer) =)
Detriot is Hockey Town after all, we know the Tigers & Lions suck. so outta 4 teams, of course we celebrate the Wings & Pistons.
Ahh hockey. Up there with rugby - these two sports separate the men from the boys.
Screw teams (the players are seldom from the areas they play for - they couldn’t care about the cities they play for). Detroit Red Wings to me is team Sweden with red jerseys. The Swedes even call them the Swedish NHL team and the nation was up at night watching with great interest during the playoffs, more so than Detroit I heard! Hockey town indeed - I saw a sea of empty seats during the playoffs. Shame on you hockey town.
Detroit looks sharp but so do a lot of other teams. I am curious to see how Philly shapes up (they amazed me last season) and even the Blackhawks (they’ve put so much into this team). This year I’d like to see a Vancouver or Phoenix make it far into the playoffs.
Maybe even see the usually weak (ie. lack of European players) Eastern Conference teams make it to the Stanley Cup - ha!
Let’s talk players. Of course, Ovechkin will be the one to watch but I also think Kane and Toews from the Hawks will be on the radar.
How about the Russian leagues snapping up some NHL players like Jagr. Actually very bummed to see him go - he is a dying breed of player who still has finesse on ice (Ovechkin will take this over).
Oh man ovechkins…You really think he’s worth a 13 year contract?? let alone the cash involved with it…
man I’m out of the loop… Jaromir jagr went to a russian hockey league?? Maybe I’m not objective, but isn’t the NHL the most lucrative of leagues? what could the russian Hockey league offer him that the NHL couldn’t?
Did he just wanna leave the US?
What do you think about Selani not hanging it up? You think he’s still useful?

i like watching certain players around the league too, but coming from england though you should recognize the team loyalty factor. don’t u fools take to ridiculous levels? watching a close game for one of my teams is such a rush. otherwise it is just background noise for me. i don’t punch walls or throw shit when my teams lose but it is very aggravating that’s for sure.
i don’t blame the fans for empty seats last year (there were none at the stanley cup though, at least the game i was at, and there were a lot less pens fans than people talked about) i blame the organization. they have some of the highest ticket prices in the league yet 9% of this state is unemployed (highest % in america). I’m sure it is even higher in the city itself. but hockey is HUGE around here so the fans are real, they just maybe can’t afford $130 face for 1 nosebleed ticket to a 3 hour event.
grmp - russia can offer jagr more money plain and simple. he doesn’t have to pay tax over there so he’s taking home 7 mill a year there which equals about 11/season here.

Yes.
What do you think about Selani not hanging it up? You think he’s still useful?
He still has talent obviously. He is one of the world’s greatest hockey players and the thing with hockey is that it’s such a team sport, that even having veterans around for team support is vital. Let him run his course - teams like Detroit have proven that there is still room for the skillful, older players.
13 years is too long for any contract. 5-7 max.
But we’ll see how it works out for them in the long run.
teams like Detroit have proven that there is still room for the skillful, older players.
this is true but people forget that the majority of their team now is very skilled younger guys like zetterberg and datsyuk (younger as in late 20s). i think they do an outstanding job of balancing young talent with senior leadership. they also get the older guys like chelios to play for next to nothing which is nice too. ill be rooting for the sabres 100% but won’t be upset when the wings win another set of back to back championships
