New Tool: 10,000 days

After listening a few times I can indeed confirm that this is an album that grows on you. The only problem I have with it is that it flows pretty bad as an album.

The leaked version is a fake.

I have the real thing and can honestly say that it is quite possibly the greatest single album ever released by a band with a one syllable name.

Although many of you out there will be annoyed to learn that several of the new tracks are sung in French. And Brian Eno does a mean whistling solo on track 3.

hahaha

Almost my friend, almost

Well, alright. I dig it, I really do…It’s weird, but that whole “growing on you” thing seems to be true. Not a bad album, at all. And as a matter of fact, I don’t see the “doesn’t flow together” bit that was mentioned here before…ex-DJ, remember? And it doesn’t seem out of place to me. Anyway, be fair and give it a few listens, it’s been awhile for us Tool fans. And shit, this one is better than Lateralus, so rejoice, damn you!

Is it on kazaa or soulseek yet?

The cd packaging has leaked…and it fucken blows. A rehash of an old Alex Grey original. Crappy.

Am starting to worry about this release. Negative comments are flowing thick and fast on any number fan forums - hopefully this shit be not real, my friends. I have a knot in the pit of my stomach that’s growing day by day. Fingers crossed it’s a fake, however doubtful that may be.

And…er…speaking of fan forums…you guys should check out the flaming going on over at 10000-days.com. Those pussies are literally ripping each other’s throats out over whether or not this album is worthy.

Tool fans eh…!

Well I just got a copy of it today.

It’s a let down, Lateralus is a much better album.

This is how I see this album in the form of favorite tracks:

  1. Right in Two
  2. not applicable
  3. not applicable
  4. Intension
  5. Jambi

And that’s it, the rest of the album is just kind of blah. Rosetta Stoned seems pretty cool premise wise, but the way Maynard is singing fucks it up to the point of the song being unpleasant.

This album was just a huge let down. The only saving grace is that Danny’s drumming is superb as usual. But drums don’t really make songs in my opinion.

I don’t know what people were expecting here.

I mean yeah Tool went on a nice psychadelic tribal limb with Lateralus, but a look at every thing Maynard has done since then should have told all of you what to expect.

A Perfect Circle is simply a more commercial, less interesting version of Tool that is practically tailor-made for alternative rock radio.

It’s obvious that Maynard isn’t going to go farther than Lateralus in terms of experimentation.

Personally I’m excited for that “dull instrumental that goes nowhere” because it will probly be my favorite track on the album.

you mean intension… it’s sort of even more drugged version of disposition. full of bass harmonics, and i fuckin’ love 'em, especially how justin chancellor uses them… he’s great.

Intension isn’t that boring, it’s just basically a long ass intro track to Right in Two.

I have heard nothing of the new tool, dont want to really, until I buy it eventually.

Is it really getting released may 2nd? Theres posters up in australia advertising April 29th… why would Oz get it earlier than everywhere else?

Yes, we get it earlier.

Why? Who can say really. Maybe it’s cos we miss out on everything else.

Life sucks at the bottom.

I’m not buying it for a while, btw. Still waiting on a delivery from amazon.com, which is taking ages and is starting to get me worried. I hope the package isn’t lost - there’s three cd’s I’m waiting on.

I just bought.

Fuck this thing sounds good! Don’t see what all the damn pissing and moaning was about.

Review coming shortly…

Just a general suggestion, before people start sounding like the resident board asshole, Peligro, give the disk a spin before the complaints start rolling.

Oi, give the dude a break, Peligro ain’t such a bad guy, he just happens to be a very misunderstood Somalian refugee.
This new album is great, it is a PROGression from Lateralus and pretty much what I was expecting from a new Tool album.
I don’t know what some of you guys are listening to but Intension is not an instrumental & people who are whinging about instrumental or ambient kind of tracks sound like a bunch of metalheads.
Another plus is the packaging for this cd would have to be the best for a single cd that I have seen. The stereoscopic lens and artwork - farking brilliant concept.
Worth the coin. Enjoy.

To me its a good album that does nevertheless have a tendency to be a bit over-indulgent and meandering. There are enough good moments on it to wait through those more boring moments.

And no, I dont have anything agains ambient or slowly developing songs. Quite the contrary. Its just that the way Tool does it here isnt as good as it could be. Its far from a disaster tho, if you ask me.

Sorry, first reaction.

Freaking hilarious - I thought the same exact thing…

Maybe Maynard chants “Mekka Lekka Hi, Mekka Heiny Ho”

1002[/reply]

“Mekka Lekka Hi, Mekka JONNY Ho!!!”

I’ve listened to it about twice so far and I like it. There are some pretty good songs on here. Don’t know how I’d rank it just yet. I’ll listen a few more times and let it sink in. BTW, the artwork was pretty neat too but it gave me a headache looking through that entire booklet.

It’s better than Lateralus, but not as good as Undertow.
About equal with Aenima, I guess.
