New Skinny Puppy Tour

I thought White Mice was a good opener in '07…

American Memory Project (they actually opened for Ohgr) was awesome. Too bad they never went any farther with that project.

Still no European tour dates.

VNV Nation is out:

With great regret, we have to let you know that, VNV Nation have pulled out of the Alliance of Sound Tour.
Due to a problematic situation, that had unexpectedly worsened in recent weeks, and which was likely to continue doing so, the band and crew deliberated over how to proceed before unanimously coming to the very reluctant decision that the appropriate course of action would be to pull out of the tour.
To all the VNV Nation fans who have bought tickets for this tour, we sincerely apologise for this news, which we know will upset many people. A decision like this is never lightly made and it has pained us greatly to have had to do this. We had been very much looking forward to doing this tour and had planned a great set and show but the situation that had caused us to make this decision had made matters too problematic to continue.
sincerely,
Ronan and Mark
[Added later] P.S. To answer the large number of people who have expressed concern about whether the situation is related to anyone’s well being - we can assure you that it is most definitely not health related.

And not too sure about Haujobb either:

Friends, we will have to do a crowdfunding campaign for the Alliance Of Sound tour. We have been working through a lot of different solutions for making this tour happen for us. All of them led to higher costs than expected. We usually don´t want to do such campaigns, as we already face a lot of support from you. But, this time we have to.

By the way, this has nothing to do with the extremely unexpected announcement from VNV Nation earlier today.

We just need a little financial support.

Which, in the end doesn’t really matter to me, since I didn’t care about seeing either of them anyways. Hopefully that means an extra long puppy set! =D

Yeah, my feelings exactly. Youth Code and an extra long Puppy set will be just fine with me.

I may actually go now…

I hope Haujobb is still in. Recently got turned on to him (them?)

I need to get my tickets for this since I’ve secured a job. Skinny Puppy also made two passes through Atlanta on the Greater Wrong… tour.

Sweet.

From Collective Concerts twitter:

Sadly VNV Nation have had to drop off of the upcoming tour with Skinny Puppy. We are happy to announce that Frontline Assembly are on board

Upgrade…

Wow! A SP/FLA tour was heavily rumored for the past couple years. I smell a mini set of Cyberaktif happening…

So excited for this now. Been dreaming about this since VNV left.

Awesome news, and I’ve never found VNV Nation that interesting. I was on the fence for making the roadie to Pomona for the final show until this announcement. I will definitely be there, gonna be weird seeing FLA and SP at the same concert. There’s gonna be synths and modules all over that stage.

Apparently I’m the only one here who prefers VNV Nation to Frontline Assembly.
Ah well. Shrug.

While it’s going to be heaven for people who like their EBM, and I hope much cyber-fun is had by said folks, I stick to my earlier statement that Skinny Puppy should just do the damn tour alone. Even though it wouldn’t be much of an “Alliance.”

I think Skinny Puppy really started soaring once “Wilhelm Schroeder”'s involvement in the band fizzled out; I can’t imagine them making Cleanse, Fold and Manipulate or VIVISectVI with him still on board.

FLA has some catchy tracks (Provision, Iceolate etc.) but over time I just got tired of Bill Leeb’s awkward vocals. And got bored of the lyric sheets that, while, permeated with lots of cool-sounding anti-authoritarian verbiage, felt half-formed and never made me feel like Leeb knew much about the subjects he was dipping his fingers into.

Now, one favor FLA did do me was printing up their list of influences in the booklet for the “Millenium” CD. Gave me lots of other great stuff to listen to, although it also sort of confirmed that the band was less than the sum of its parts.

Saw this show on Saturday… and I was totally sober, so you can trust my completely accurate review:

Youth Code = meh

Haujobb = a little less meh

Front Line Assembly = not bad for what it is. Set was a bit short though. All the women in the crowd seemed to love it.

Skinny Puppy = basically the same set list/stage setup as their tour in the spring. It was great, because it’s Puppy, but nothing new.

Got a nice Skinny Puppy hoodie though.

Apparently I’m the only one here who prefers VNV Nation to Frontline Assembly.
Ah well. Shrug.

Yes you are. I’m not a big fan of FLA, but “Vigilante” trumps anything that Ronin has ever done.

Going tonight, excited

“Vigilante” trumps anything that Ronin has ever done.

This is true.

I’m going to the Seattle show in a few weeks. I haven’t seen Skinny Puppy since the comeback tour 10 years ago. I had a great time, but the majority of their material since then hasn’t been my thing, so I never bothered to go again. I’ve been listening to their older stuff again, and damn, it’s so good. I almost forgot. You can’t beat that shit.

What made me buy a ticket was mainly Youth Code. I’ve seen them twice already, and I really love them. Cool people too. It’s too bad it’ll be a short set though.

It’ll be cool to see Haujobb, even though I’ve never been that into them. I saw FLA 12 years ago when I was a big fan, but then I kinda stopped listening to them for years. Revisiting them again as well, and they have some fun stuff.
