Some pre-Trent Manson is really easy to find - all the cassettes and whatnot that they put out before they got signed. Some of it even got a semi-official release a few years ago as “The Spooky Kids”.
The tricky thing is the Roli Mossiman produced version of “Portrait…” which the band rejected. Then they started over from scratch with Trent behind the board. I think Berkowitz leaked it as a torrent some time ago, but I haven’t been able to find it since.
I tried uploading a torrent to Demonoid last night with the Pre-Reznor Mossiman mixes, but I must have screwed it up because it’s not there. Then I was going to try a Yousendit, but I found that I don’t have a copy of it here at work! So I’ll try to torrent it again tonight.

i appreciate it man. I tried the pirate bay torrent and got most of the files but there wasn’t any seeders (just people stuck at 98%) and couldn’t complete a couple for the Portrait tracks.

I’ll see if I can help them finish that torrent, too. I’m pretty sure I backed all that up on a DVD somewhere.
Okay, Pre-Reznor sessions torrent is up on demonoid.
yep i’m a pain in the ass… anyone got an invite for here? fish at prongs.org. thanks.

thanks for the help!
Manson has always been about his image first and his music second since ‘Smells Like Children’ Personally I find the new stuff to be boring as hell. I mean, it was only a matter of time before we got the ‘Manson in Wonderland’ record. He should have called it a ‘career’ with Golden Age of Grotesque. I mean, it entered the charts at number one, and had a few good songs. Go out on top and call it a day. Go paint and do your 19 year old girlfriend…repeatedly…
Rumor has it Manson booted Gacy out of the band now too. Then again, that is just a rumor as Gacy is not being mentioned as part of the touring line up for the upcoming tour with Slayer. So, its not offical, but dear ol’ Pogo isn’t being mentioned anywhere from what I have seen.

Wasn’t Pogo the guy who allegedly had sex with a deaf groupie whilst screaming “I’m going to come in your useless ear canal!” or something to that effect?
I’d say its more than an allegation, manson wrote it in his autobiography… she was wearing lots of raw meat at the time… after the what pogo did they stopped and just pissed on her instead… charming stuff!

She’s some kind of S&M dominatrix, so she’s probably used to that kind of thing.
From what I understand, the new album was completely put together by Manson and Skold in quick moment of artistic inspiration, so Pogo and Ginger Fish weren’t included. But they supposedly are still in the band. It wouldn’t surprise me if they weren’t, though, they way Manson burns through bandmates.
Yes that is accurate. The speculation regarding MW Gacy revolves around the fact that, even though he wasn’t included on the album, Ginger Fish was mentioned as being part of the live lineup, as was Rob Holiday the bassist of Prodigy, whereas MW Gacy has not been mentioned at all.
I don’t listen to holy wood very much… i really enjoyed mechanical animals and golden age though… zim zum wrote heaps of mechanical… shame they got rid of him.
A funny story about Holy Wood, I went and saw mm back in 2003, a tattooist friend got backstage (apparantly some of the studios get backstage/free tix to a lot of concerts)… and gave manson an E, and asked what the deal with holy wood being crap was.
Mansons response: I needed money
There we go, yes, Holy Wood was a cash cow.
She did get an SMS from him thanking her for the E later though, lol.
I think Holy Wood is a brilliant, underrated album. And to suggest it was a “cash cow” is beyond retarded. You do realize Manson was obviously being sarcastic when he replied “I needed money”
I mean it’s a concept album first of all. Second of all, 7 of the 19 tracks are actually more or less interludes that lack a bridge as part of their song structure.
These tracks are: “GodEatGod” “In the Shadow of the Valley of Death” “A Place in the Dirt” “Valentine’s Day” “The Fall of Adam” “King Kill 33” and “Count to Six and Die”
The album plainly drags on and contains far more tracks than a “cash cow” would. Also, there is so much thought put into the lyrics regarding martyrdom, the ‘celebritarian’ concept, and this album’s overall storyline regarding a failed attempt at revolution that ends in suicide.
This album acts as the beginning of a three part “Triptych” that continues into Mechanical Animals and then ends with Antichrist Superstar.
The sounds in “Count to Six and Die” are actually someone loading a pistol with one bullet in a bunker. Outside, there is a war raging and you can hear gunfire and explosions. The person pulls the trigger six times and on the sixth time instead of a bang from the bullet entering their skull, the album ends, setting the stage for the dead rockstar floating in outer space who is the main protagonist in Mechanical Animals.
Hardly a “cash cow”.
Lol, just because I don’t listen to it much doesn’t mean I don’t like it. I hardly listen to poaaf and I love that album. I have hw on vinyl + cd… and spent AGES looking for a limited vinyl release of HW which apparantly had a cover of a TSOL song on it… with no luck. If I honestly thought it was a cash cow, i wouldn’t have bought every release since. Well most anyway. I read about the triptych stuff when hw came out and got really into it, playing the online tarot game and stuff… (only to get an “unreleased” track which i already had on an aus release single).
I told that story because I thought it was funny, I thought it would satisfy the nay-sayers and give the manson fans something to smirk about. yeah ok… i shouldnt have used cash cow. whatever.
Pogo’s musical contributions were usually far more interesting than anything Skold or Manson ever came up with.
I saw somewhere… probably wikipedia, he was listed as live keyboards.
I have heard most of the new album. I like it, didn’t listen to heaps, a friend was playing it the other night, but yeah, sounds good to me. Gotta wonder what happened to the last 4 years worth of material though… mansons been saying for a few years he has about 3 albums worth of stuff…
Yeah, I remember him saying that he had completed the record, but the world wasn’t ready to hear it yet. And that there may be different musicians featured on the album, too. So apparently he scrapped all that material after the divorce and went and put something new together with just Skold.
Brutal? Yes…but can you honestly say it isn’t deserved?

Niceness.
