New Manson

Anyone heard the new Manson song “Heart Shaped Glasses?” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs4l0qtC59U) The guitar reminds me of early live Ministry, like “Never Asked For Nothing” mixed with some early 80’s Bowie. I was expecting another Mobscene or Disposable Teens, but I was pleasantly surprised.

He should change his name to Modest Manson.

PMSL,
I have only heard about 30 secs of the new song (cant check youtube at the moment, at work) didn’t sound too bad, can’t see the modest mouse comparison though. Def see the bowie in it. Eh… I am a pretty big manson fan, so we’ll see how the rest of it sounds. As always I’m looking forward to hearing the album/seeing them live again, assuming they tour down-under, but I don’t think they’ve skipped here on any recent tours. (unlike SOME people, I’m looking at you Al!)

too late for me, video got removed.

it sounds post-punk.

wait and see but the lyrics are so lame…

Go here and download it:

I think its okay.

i think it’s actually so bad that it sounds like manson is trying to sound like spyderbaby who tries to sound like manson.

I fucking love Manson! I think this single is pretty good. This new album is gonna kick ass. He’s touring with Slayer.

He’s touring with Slayer.

Oh god. They didn’t have to do that, did they? Jesus.

new song is ok…i’ll go to the live show since I love slayer & haven’t seen Manson since 94’.

Im far from being a Manson fan (IMO Alice Cooper could kick his ass any day) but I have to admit he has a few songs that are quite listenable. This seems to be one of them, reminds me a little of Comsat Angels (not sure why, but that was the first thing that came to my mind).

not liking this one [unsure]

He’s gone quite a ways since 94’, hasn’t he? I liked the last album, but so far, this is pretty saddening. You go from “dope hat” to this…tsk tsk, mr. manson. A little sad, when a near 40 year old man sells out to fit in with the teenage emo rock. You would figure, you’d mature some with ages and do something a little different…but I suppose not.

It sounded pretty different to me… then again I dont listen to much new music (haha, 22 and already these “new-fangled” bands are disgusting me [:P]). From what I have heard it doesnt sound like other manson, or anything else (especially not any of the emo crowd I have heard, AFI, Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy… BLECH… that stuff is SOOOOOO bad).

But maybe it is all just a big rip-off of other stuff… sounds good to me, well heart-shaped does… I have heard the new vampire song isn’t that great… haven’t had a chance to hear it myself.
To say MM sold out for this album… umm, I love MM and all, but he “sold out” long ago. same with NIN, Ministry, RevCo, Slayer, FF … any band that anyone more than 1 town knows of can be called a “sell-out” these days…

yeah…like enjoy most of mansons stuff. gettting old does kinda suck in the music arena. Anyway, maybe it’s Skold who’s fuckin’ him. Seems skold can do that (kmfdm for example)…lol

Thing about skold is: that he can have a good influence or a terrible influence. I liked golden age of grotesque, and consider it a huge improvemnt over the prior, Holy Wood; which I consider merely “bleh”. Skold’s influence on kmfdm, I consider was positive though. I liked “anarchy” and the other stuff (adios, mdfmk, and attak". So in my opinion, he saved manson’s sound. Manson has been going downhill since 98.

Mechanical Animals, imo, is probably his last great album. So I wouldn’t put the blame on skold, but rather manson, himself. Skold has probably become yet another puppet, as if, M.W. Gacy and Ginger Fish: the survivors.

I’m less impressed with “If I Was Your Vampire.” It sounds more typically gothey. But who knows about the rest of the album, usually his singles are some of the worst tracks on the album.

And Manson is only as good as his bandmates. They write about 95% of the music and Manson only writes the lyrics. Daisy and Gein were the original songwriters, then it was Twiggy and John 5, and now it’s pretty much all Skold. So I’m interested to see the songwriting credits on the new album, if Pogo is co-writing more or if Manson is actually writing some music now.

I never realized until pretty recently that gein wrote so much of the early stuff. i guess that explains why i loved portrait and then disliked everything else except for a few tracks on antichrist.

Phew!! That’s cleared that up.

[reply]Phew!! That’s cleared that up.
Wow. Good thing that response isn’t old hat from you by now, or that would’ve seemed crass.

Thank God for small favors, yes?
