It sounds like Judas Priest on “cruise control”.
Kind of generic . . . for Priest.
Recycled riffs, recycled lyrics, recycled beats . . .
Not horrible, but certainly nothing exciting.
And that cover art SUCKS.
Still better than Nostradamus…
and strange to realize it is the first ever song Priest studio track to not have KK on it…
I listened to Nostradamus once or twice, then let it collect dust until I traded it back. I later found a live performance of the title track which was really cool and kind of second guessed my decision to dump it. I’ve never re-bought it, though.
I thought ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION was absolutely phenomenal, though!
These guys are on autopilot. I thought Priest retired? Or is it just KK Downing?
Just KK…they supposedly retired from large scale touring but I highly doubt that is etched in stone…

Wow.
Depressing.
Utterly depressing.
Sounds like some cheesy pre-fab buttrock to me. Like Five Finger Death Punch or something, but more gay. Did they even use instruments or just download a couple programs and douche it all up with ProTools or something.
I got a minute or so into it. I just can’t deal with it. Those vocals . . . . uggh.
It’s truly the worst thing I’ve ever heard from Priest. I could see it sounding better live, but still, that song is completely devoid of any soul or feeling. It is the exact opposite of everything that I love about Judas Priest.
100% crap.
Nostradamus was a bit of a slog, i don’t think i made it all the way through. I saw them with Megadeth and Testament, they were fun but i don’t remember much about the show, i was utterly hammered. I do remember Testament’s sound was muddy as fuck, but it somehow got much clearer when MegaDave came on.
Priest, Megadeth, and Testament?
Not a bad lineup.

I saw that tour in 1990. Testament’s sound sucked.
Haha, mad, this one was maybe 5 years ago or less, it ran in the US with another big band in the line up, can’t remember who, but we got a couple of bands less. Probably no loss. Standing in the arena i couldn’t make out what Testament were playing, but when i went outside for a beer i could make it out ok.
^
I think it was called the Metal Masters tour, or Masters of Metal or something. I actually had a ticket for it but couldn’t get back to the US in time. The US version had Priest, Motorhead, Testament . . . .someone else too. Maybe it was Megadeth. This was around 2008 so right around the same time frame you’re thinking of.

Yeah, you’re right, Motorhead was the band we were missing in Europe, although i’d seen them once before anyway and was still happy to be seeing 3 big bands at one show in my own town. Motorhead would really have topped it off, or even set the pace as an opener i suppose[:)]

That was worse than the “new” Michael Jackson album.

No wonder KK Downing bailed. This is utter rubbish. Priest is on autopilot. At this point, it is time to stick a fork in it. They had a great career but it’s time to retire. No shame in that.
Yeah, it’s pretty sad.
When that first sample was released I thought, “This is the worst I’ve ever heard from Priest.” Then this “March of the Damned” song was dropped and it made “Redeemer” sound downright trailblazing.
I’ll see them live if they roll my way as I’ve never caught them. But I have less than zero interest in this new album.
I hate to say it as well, because I’m a life-long Priest fan but this definitely blows…both tracks are seriously lacking any fire…I’ve been through this with them before with Turbo haha…ahhh, what are ya gonna do…sometimes after 40+ years, things dry up…
I saw Priest in 1982 on the Screaming For Vengeance tour. I was 14. They rocked.
Afterwards, when I was walking through the car park to take the bus back to my hometown, some idiot threw a bottle at me. Luckily it missed - however it hit a young woman in the side of the face and cut her up real bad. I will never forget freaking out and running at the sight of so much blood.
There were a lot of red neck fuckwits at metal gigs in those days. I’m sure you’ve all watched Heavy Metal Parking Lot?
No wonder metal heads got a bad rep back then.

We still get a share of 'em here and there (thank God, Pantera is defunct!), but they’re certainly not the norm. Most of the folk are good natured and even the rowdiest of us still look out for the rest and try to maintain some order.
But any time you have hard-edged or extreme music you kind of take a bit of danger along with it.
I was at a punk show in November, and (I just have no self-control) jumped in to the pit (old OC punk band, D.I. – love them!) to mix it up as I do. I was having a blast, but there were some skinhead goons that were just there to hurt people. I wasn’t really thinking how stupid it would have been if I’d gone through with it, but I considered clocking some fool at one point. It’s good I didn’t, as some other cat apparently got a little lippy and (as is to be expected with skinheads) all his goon brothers jumped in to beat the crap outta the kid. I didn’t see this go down as it was between sets and I was getting beer.
The Misfits (headliner) came on and things were just majorly packed and shovey and uncomfortable, so I went to a spot further back.
The next day I took my jacket out of the car to see that the back of it had blood splattered on it. I honestly don’t know if it happened during D.I. or Misfits or something else, but it was a little unsettling (and also kind of rad).
I hate trolls that go to shows to cause violence. It just makes me want to do violence too. But . . . . the jerks that come to shows to do violence typically come with 15-20 friends who also came to do violence, so it’s kind of a lose-lose situation.
why these old (now sort of legendary) rock bands have to come up with the new albums? last black sabbath release was fucking lame too.
i mean, they all have huge backlog of great songs that fans actually wanna hear played in the live shows. they could tour endlessly with the ‘greatest hits’ setlist until they are blue in the face and still gather big successful attendance.
but no, every tour has to be promoting some kind of lame new album that they recorded or whatever.
