What are the bands that have come about in the last few years that you listen to regularly? I’ll go first in no order.
jesu
interpol
mute math
tv on the radio
cold war kids
snowden
the bug
a place to bury strangers
dead sea choir (local tulsa band)
isis
the national
animal collective
mastodon
autolux
mew
ghostland observatory
disco biscuits
I’ts funny that I’m such a fan of industrial music, but really, the only industrial I listen to anymore is either NIN or music I was listening to in jr. high, ie ministry, wax trax, etc. I’m sure I’m forgetting some, so I’ll probably edit later.
Antony & the Johnsons
Joanna Newsom
Murder By Death
William Elliott Whitmore
Espers
The Knife/Fever Ray
Mastodon
Marissa Nadler
The Owl Service
Like killface I haven’t been listening to much new goth/industrial lately either. But a few bands in that scene that have caught my ear:
Rotersand
Stayte
Shiny Toy Guns
Faderhead
Imatem
CrowdKontrol
65daysofstatic
Autolux
Explosions in the Sky
MGMT
Secret Machines
Modwheelmood/Blindoldfreak
MONO
God is an Astronaut
Mellowdrone (been around for ages, but i’m only discovering them a couple months ago).
This is about the only reason I come on here these days. You guys have turned me on to some good music. Ive heard about 25% of the bands you guys have listed. I have not heard Mastodon. Never heard of them until I got my new copy of Guitar Player today. I will give a few of these bands a spin. Let it be known I do not condone the use of sex drugs or rock and roll, but so far its worked for me.
Shitloads of killer Dubstep stuff coming out…too much to name. Loads of great Hip Hop, House and Techno too.
As for “new-ish” heavy bands…they all suck as far as I’m concerned. Forget about a new Godflesh/Melvins/Ministry (late 80’s-2003)/Swans ever popping up.
The only decent “new-ish” bands imho who make interesting music are more pop/folk/electronic for the most part. Off the top of my head…
Akron/Family
Meursault
Animal Collective
Grizzly Bear
Of Montreal
INDIE STUFF I LOVE
Santigold
Cut Copy
The Knife
Say Hi
Phoenix
Yeah Yeah Yeahs (not that new at all but amazing, saw them two weeks ago - great show)
The National
Black Ghosts
Robyn
Simian Mobile Disco
etc
INDUSTRIAL/EBM
Aesthetic Perfection
Ashbury Heights
Unter Null
KLOQ
Amduscia
Rabia Sorda
UnterArt
Straftanz
Komor Kommando
etc.
I’ve kind of wandered from my Industrial roots lately as well. Bands I’m listening to recently :
The Editors
Interpol
Bloc Party
Artic Monkeys
Strokes
Killers
Catherine Wheek
Burning Brides
Constantines
Yeah Yeah Yeah’s
Mute Mouth
Jesu
Eskimo Joe
Nine Black Alps
I noticed someone into MGMT, is that a stoner band or something, lay off the lsd.
No they’re a Poppy Psychadelic Indy band.
Their Debut had a couple of great singles which made the rest of the album sound pish.
I saw them live last year sometime and they had no stage presence at all. One of their guitarists did have a Ministry shirt on though so they got points for that. It was the Just One Fix shirt with the mozzy and syringe on it.
I’ve been taken with Dear Leader since I discovered them about a year ago or so. Not industrial, but very well written and intelligently political. They’re supposedly finishing upanother album soon and from the clips they put up on Myspace, I can’t wait.

Bloc Party
Artic Monkeys
Strokes
Killers
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!![/reply]
Sorry. It’s not like I choose it. I’m just too lazy to say “Boo!” when it comes on my Pandora stations and it’ snot bad for just background music.
And besides… EVERYBODY listens to crap rock from time to time, even if they don’t admit it.[/reply]
I actually like some Killers, and never really got around to trying Strokes and Bloc Party. The single of the strokes can’t be that bad, he did a badass job on era vulgaris (Sick Sick Sick by Queens of the Stone Age, another band). There’s others i’m just not thinking of, but I know there’s more.
And with MGMT. I listed them because it’s a very odd but appealing album they did. The singles easily put the rest of the album to shambles, but I actually enjoy it.
I thought about including them, but it seems like they’ve been around for ages…
They’re pretty new-ish. Only came out like a few years ago or so, I think. Her solo stuff isn’t half bad either, but a little too similar to DD, but a little different.
Also another one, although they came out around 2000-ish, are the Liars. A bit avant garde, but some pretty cool stuff. Drum’s Not Dead is a pretty cool album.
Every time I go to reply to this thread I realize the music I’m about to hype isn’t even remotely new. Most of the bands I like are from like early 2000s or so.
Like Liars for example. They are good and no one talks about them here. Is that new anymore? I don’t know.
