This was expected, haha! Glad to see other states are run by aimless turkeys too.
We opted out of Chicago for the quiet life in the country 2 years ago and were fortunate to have done so. C19 is taken seriously here but the number of infections, as you might expect, is quite low. To be honest our routine hasn’t changed much.
I’m at the point where I prefer my own company anyway. In the last 5 or 10 years I’ve developed an aversion to crowds, restaurants, etc.
It’s lovely here. I put the top down and ride through the hills when the weather cooperates then when I get home I reach for the guitar or piano. And my wife and little terrier are great company. There’s not much I’m missing except for our sons who live in Denver & Chicago.
Nice, man. It’s nice you can kinda set your own pace and relax. Are you still working from home or are you retired?
So, as I mentioned before, I’ve been playing Rocksmith and their little gimmick is something like “give us 2 months and we’ll teach you guitar.” I could already play, like, I knew how to play chords but sucked at rhythm and and could pretty much play any riff but never the whole song and some solos but not always up to speed and again never the whole song…
So, I’ve got 48 days in a row, over 60 hours (their thing is an hour a day for 60 days-just looked it up) and I can play a ton of songs from start to finish. My rhythm is way better than it’s ever been and it’s translating into other music as well, not just the rocksmith songs.
I looked up the music for just one fix and not only can I play all the parts (although not together, the transitions I still fumble with, so I wouldn’t say I can play that one totally, but I can play all the parts ) but I can play them at the correct BPM. So, Rocksmith has actually increased my picking/strumming speed as well… I looked up Jesus built My Hotrod just for shits and giggle and… … … … … … … there’s still no way! 250bpm and it alternates between barre chords and single notes that don’t sound right if youre not playing it up to speed.
Oh yeah I picked up “lose yourself” by eminem and the silly riffs that run through “Nothing but a G thang” and “forgot about dre” and I was gonna learn Satellite by Dave Mathews cause my wife suggested it so I learned that intro riff in about 10 minutes and went to learn the rest and it turns out that intro riff is the whole song except for the fills that Tim Reynolds does that sound out of place if that first riff aint being played So, I guess I can play Satellite. Who woulda thought that song is easier to play than Crash into me… the chords for that song are tough.
Oh yeah #2 I picked up How The Gods Kill and Blood an Tears!
So, yeah, if you already know how to play guitar and wanna get better I totally endorse Rocksmith. If you have no idea how to play guitar and wanna learn, I totally endorse Rocksmith. Make sure your console has the option for an optical audio plug (PS4 slim does not) 'cause you need one of those 'cause playing through the straight HDMI sucks. there’s too much lag and it will say you missed notes you most definitely hit. The game even tells you for the best audio set up use the optical cable.
I’ve been retired for a couple of years now.
So, I’m still going strong on the guitar. I’ve actually picked up a couple of riffs from ear (Something I’ve never been able to do except for the Marilyn Manson Sweet Dreams and Coma White riff) but I’ve picked up that riff (really it’s the whole song) from Eminem “Forgot about Dre” and “Adam’s Song” by Blink 182. Pretty proud of myself. (Oh and the intro chord and riff that starts out Walk This World by Heather Nova)
But the last day or two I’ve been playing Tori Amos music. I’ve been trying to get Icicle (My favorite Tori song ever) committed to memory and the fingerings for Past The Mission. Icicle is easy, Past The Mission is damn near impossible on the guitar. I swear I’m gonna develop arthritis from this song.
