So, I’m out of projects in my house. The upkeep at this point is very minimal and what messy portion of the house is only that way because the pile of donation sacks is tremendous.
“School” is winding down. Not like Freshmen were logging into the school server to complete school work anyway, especially when they know they can’t get anything worse than the 3rd quarter grade… not much to grade, so work is slow.
So, by my other thread, I think you’ve noticed I’ve decided to partake in alcohol a bit more than I usually do. (Drank 2 nights in a row- Had a 22 of Guinness Extra Stout last night) Which is probably still loads less than some around here. But yeah I got free time, might as well have a pint, I guess…
Since my house work is done, my job is basically done, I’ve got nothing really to do but bum around the house for the next 4 months, so, I’ve got back into the guitar with the aid of Rocksmith 2014. I got this game about 5 years back for the xbox 360 and it was cool, but I got sidetracked with family and work stuff. So, I dusted it off, but my 360 was spotty, not wanting to read the disc. So, I bought a new version for PS4, and it was cool for a bit, BUT it started not registering my notes and chords and calling my strums a miss when it was clearly a hit.
So, I looked up the problem online and apparently you’re not supposed to play with and HDMI cable because the two way signal causes lag (Was playing in my room with just the HDMI connecting the PS4 to the TV). Instead your supposed to play with an optical sound cable hooked up to a receiver and external speakers. No problem I’ll just hook up the optical Sound to the TV also and forego the receiver…looks on the back of the PS4 slim and no optical slot Boooooooo.
So, I go downstairs check the Xbox 1 and YAY there is an optical port. (plus everything runs through my receiver- their suggested optimal set up) So, I get a copy of Rocksmith 2014 for Xbox 1 plug in and I’m kicking ass… Until my wife comes in and says “hey, can I play too?”
“Sure, we have two cables; it has multiplayer. Grab the bass; we can play songs.” My wife, who did like 10 years of music, from drums to flute, picks up the bass guitar, which she hasn’t touched in 10 years-really more like 13 or 14. (She bought one after she showed me how to read rhythm notes and we were playing marilyn manson songs together back before we were married in an old house we rented) She proceeds to hit mastery in song after song after song after song after song after… you get the drift. And you know why shouldn’t she she’s played the bass for a combined total of 4 months of a 15 year span?
I always fancied myself a lead guitarist, but I get my ass kicked on tons of songs and find myself hitting mastery much quicker when I opt to just playing rhythm. So, my wife suggested I stick to rhythm for a bit to get my timing down better and then switch to lead a little later. Seeing as how she is the musical guru in the family I guess I’ll do that.
So far the songs I got Lead mastery down on are Blitzkrieg Bop and Badfish. A bunch of other songs I’m anywhere between 73% and 88%. Plush, Coma White, Pour Some Sugar on me, Zombie, But I played Zombie, Don’t look back in Anger, and Badfish last night on Rhythm and hit mastery in like 2 or 3 times, Whereas I’ve played those other songs well over 10 times in Lead and never leveled up to mastery let alone did it in under 5 songs.
So, I fully expect to be a shredder at the end of the summer. Rocksmith is fun because my wife and I are doing some bonding like we did when we were first together, then you throw in the alcohol and it intensifies.
TL:DR
All my work at home and job is mostly done. Having a beer or two a night and my wife is a beast on the bass and we’re bonding over playing music.
