I was in literally the last row and did not care- amazing view, amazing show, hands down one of the best I’ve EVER been to. holy shit. killer setlist. and since it was the first time seeing them live, never thought I would see them live…totally surreal, like I was in a dream. when reality hit me, I nearly cried. the band is incredibly tight.
I was surrounded by FNM vetrans, which was cool. the guy in front of me has seen them every tour since the real thing. he was at a show when they opened for Metallica, before Epic broke through, and was saying they were getting boo’d pretty bad. so bad that James had to come out and play with them for a song to calm the crowd down!
And I know what you mean, every time I get to see them it’s an experience.
When they came back in 2010, I flew up to San Francisco for one of the shows. It was incredible. I’d been following the various set lists, and that night they played a completely different one than what they’d been. So a complete surprise.
I didn’t “see” the opening band, but I was in the lobby when they were playing. It was some hardcore stuff, they sounded like old Anal Cunt.
just got back from the Santa Ana show. holy shit…they played their entire new album from start to finish! having only heard a few songs before hand, I was totally stoked. the new stuff sounds AMAZING.
they started their set with the album. after about 4 songs I heard Patton say off mic “should we keep going?” and the band all agreed they should.
lots of fun moments with the band interacting with the crowd too. good venue, reminded me of Irving Plaza from NYC, except Irving Plaza doesn’t have the tiered GA.
it was very special to be there to hear the entire new album from start to finish live, along with some other classics with the band having fun. I’ll say this show was better than last night’s. however, I don’t think the crowd was into it as much as they could have been. boring OC folks haha!
Yeah, OC crowds are even somehow lamer than LA crowds. And I’ve been to that venue a couple times, it’s a sweatbox on top of that.
I’m not sure how I feel about them doing the whole album. I think I might’ve been a little disappointed I didn’t get more oldies. But that’s certainly a ballsy thing to do, and you definitely got a special show.
very ballsy, and that’s why I love the band. there was enough back catalog the night before for me personally. of course, I would have loved to hear more older stuff as well, but heck I was living the moment, a dream come true man!
came across this video a few mins ago, Patton’s first gig with Faith No More, in my new home, Long Beach! though, I think this is labeled wrong. could have sworn Patton did one or two gigs in late 88 with the band. either way, cool to see, and much like last night, the band was playing new unreleased material from their then upcoming album, The Real Thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxv1gzId2Fk

Got the record. (Had a lousy download version since 4/14, but whatever.) Fucking brilliant. Could’ve come out in 1999. As close to Goth-punk as it gets. Also saw them both nights at Webster Hall. Fucking revelatory. Patton is God. And I must be praying polytheistically, because Gould, Hudson, Bottum, and Bordin are also Gods.
