My review of new Marilyn Manson "WE ARE CHAOS"

If your fictional daughter is 19+, then good luck controlling who she dates.

The deaf girl in question was Adina Slotsky. She later appeared alive and well on the Howard Stern Show (1999) and the MM documentary Demystifying the Devil (2000), where she was now a dominatrix. She laughs about it and clearly doesn’t feel she was abused, and describes the book sequence as embellished. I don’t think Manson had sex with her. Could be wrong, but it was Gacey who was saying he wanted to have sex with a deaf girl because he could say terrible things to her.

Manson was definitely abusive to his bandmates. The first drummer Lucas said he was physically abusive. Manson may or may not have set him on fire on the last gig. But possibly it was an accident, as according to Lucas they regularly set his drums on fire because he was sponsored by a drum company who would replace them for free. You can see Manson kick/push John 5 live on stage here, though it’s not clear if it’s on purpose or if he’s just not looking where he’s going. But John 5 kicks off like it’s not the first time, and Manson isn’t exactly apologetic. You can see Manson throwing things at the next drummer, Fish, here when he doesn’t start on time.

In Demystifying the Devil Manson and his bandmates get invited to stay at some girls’ house. The band repays their hospitality by rifling through their underwear drawer, rubbing their underwear on their genitals, and sticking their girls’ toothbrush up their arses. He also takes a sadistic pleasure in feeding a rabbit to a snake. The food chain is one thing, but he enjoys it. It does suggest a certain sociopathy.

The John5 v Marilyn Manson “fight” is one of my all time favorite YouTube videos for a million reasons. I’ve watched it so many times.

To me it’s clear from that video that MM are in decline here. It’s 2003, the mainstream has lost interest, the concept triptych is complete, and he’s started dressing as Mickey Mouse because he’s bored. You wouldn’t catch him wearing mouse-ears in 1997. Also, that’s blackface! Don’t tell instagram.

Holy Wood was the last good thing from Manson.

Curious when peoples here saw him. I saw MM back in 1994 when he opened up for Trent!

Hahaha dude I one day watched that video about 40 times in a row…it is such a high comedy fucking train wreck…so funny…

I saw him on that Holy Wood tour …

I’ve never seen that video do they actually scrap on stage?

Not really…its so comical, dude…you have to watch it…Manson gives him a little shove after he does some weird goose stepping manuveur while wearing Mickey Mouse ears…then John 5 throws his guitar down and awkwardly throws up his fists with his smeared make up…you can almost imagine him saying “cmon cmon put em up”…it is so ridiculous and awkward and hysterical…

Nah. ‘Golden Age of Grotesque’ was #1 on the billboard. it was not “in decline”. It was a creative way to move on from the initial Triptych phase and into a new phase of development that felt fresh and invigorating. The mickey mouse blackface thing was clever in that Mickey Mouse is ths American icon, with initials “MM” and so Manson is this dark version with the mouse ears and blackface, also initials “MM”. I thought the imagery around that time was very fresh with the whole cabaret burlesque 1930s German vibe. It’s hard to know where he could go after the Triptych period but he found a way to keep it fresh. If anything , ‘Holy Wood’ was a little stale because it was just like an “Antichrist lite” and didn’t really have any new imagery to speak of just a more polished high fashion coutoure take on the Antichrist look.

Also the sound of ‘Golden Age’ was a clever updated take on the MM sound with adaptation of nu metal riffs and some rap elements, it was the last time he really sounded current. He was deliberately mocking popular music trends of the time all while absorbing them into his sound and it made sense given the album’s theme of intellectual decay and decadence that he would incorporate these “low brow” sounds. Again musically I maintain that it was more fresh than ‘Holy Wood’ which sounded a bit dated and out of touch even when it came out.

Now after ‘Golden Age’…when John 5 & Twiggy Ramirez were kicked out and he went and did ‘Eat Me Drink Me’ and began the relationship with teenage Evan that is now coming back to haunt him, and did the whole Lolita vampire Lewis Caroll theme…that is where the decline really set in IMO even though there are always some redeeming qualities with each release.

I’ve actually seen that before now that I rewatch it. It is funny. 5 looks pissed for real, though.

Here are all my thoughts on the Marilyn Manson situation finally in one video since everyone wanted to know:

https://youtu.be/BUKrp5dC4zQ

Jennifer Syme died of injuries from a car accident after attending a party at Manson’s, rather than overdosing at the party.

None of these women deserve actual rape and battery. It’s the accusations like “he once bit me during sex” that I’m unsympathetic about. If you date the world’s most infamous shock-rock star who’s been blatantly into BDSM for over 20 years, then you should expect a bit of BDSM.

Randomly biting someone and inflicting horrible bruising all over their body without prior discussion is not BDSM. Nor is chasing someone wielding an axe, or binding and whipping them without prior discussion when they agree to partake in a video as an actress. Have you ever engaged in BDSM?

Not interested, but thank you for the offer.

Well a then-girlfriend tried to tie me up once, but it was embarrassing because she wasn’t anywhere near as kinky as she was pretending to be. I’m pretty sure she’d googled BDSM that week.

I only described biting during sex as SM. The insta-post I read didn’t mention horrible bruises all over her body, it made it sound like it was one bite.

For what it’s worth, it really wouldn’t surprise me if the serious claims were true. Manson has been showing signs of abuse towards women even before he was a superstar, and his attitude probably hasn’t improved with power. Another example that springs to mind is back in Ft. Lauderdale, Manson and Ramirez used to entertain themselves by making death threats from a phone booth in a mall against a girl who worked in the mall. The phone booth had a line of sight on the girl’s jewellery stall, so they could see her cry. He’s long shown an attitude that women were there for his sadistic entertainment.

That is kinda funny to me. But I can definitely understand the trauma and the fear that she would have and that is fucked up. But my first response was to giggle at that. Maybe because it’s after the fact that and I know the girl was in no danger but, but yeah, that’s pretty warped… But I laugh at Andrew dice clay too.

I picture them like Brandon in “Welcome To The Dollhouse”.

“You’re gonna get raped!”

And, yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the shit about MM turns out to be true. I’m just not into lynching someone based off random internet chatter and accusations. I hope they do get to the bottom of it and it’s bullshit, move on. And if there’s something there worth prosecuting, do it.

Back to someone’s comment about MM’s violent and gross control tendencies already being there and perhaps getting worse with fame . . . . I might even expect them to get worse again AFTER the fame. I mean, he’s not been gracing the covers of Tiger Beat for over 15 years now, so I would kind of think that whatever psychological needs he has to feel powerful and oppressive would only be increased as his power in the media and music charts was taken away, so it would seem natural for such a weirdo to want to feed his ego elsewhere and in some rather nasty ways.
