My apologies...

Fuck, I just realised I put up the wrong flyer… that one was for next month, this is the one for Thursday… peace [blush]

To those who missed the gig at the Arthouse, it was a stellar performance from a young man only beginning to realise his talents and potentials. Not everyone’s cup of tea to be sure, but definitely had something to offer anyone whose musical horizons are a little bit broader than the average pleb.

Blink 182 and Gwen Stefani fans etc etc are advised to stay well away. We don’t need you and your fist in the air heroics and general scumbaggery and you’ll only serve to suck all the intelligence out of the room.

This is not your average ‘rock’ gig. And thank heavens for that.

Bravo.

I’ll try and make the next one on Thursday, however I am as sick as a dog at the moment with a virus that would floor a charging rhino.

Is that a group called Pig&Machine… or is it two groups called PIG and Machine?

I just asked because when I lived in Tassie a dude I knew had a metal band called Pig…

Sounds great… as I have to work the next day and I’m a softcock I probably won’t make it though, looking forward to seeing the foootage when it gets on the net one day.

Peligro, you floored me just then. Thank you [blush]

Stairwell, the band is pig&machine… I met them when I saw them play, and it was this dude on guitar just making noise, with a little japanese girl running around and screaming and bashing the mic. It’s actually more listenable than it sounds. I go up to her afterwards to tell her I liked the show, and she couldn’t speak much English… it was such a weird contrast to the way I’d seen her perform!

And believe me, you ain’t a softcock… I’d enjoy my sleep if I could get some of it… [mad]

This thread, and Stairwell, win everything just for the inclusion of the word “softcock.”

Stairwell is a softcock.

How many Blink or Gwen fans do you know that frequent this forum?

I can only hope to one day to have Peligro’s official elitist stamp of approval.

I enjoy how Peligro’s elitist stamp post makes reference to Gwen Stefani and Blink 182 to show that he knows what the mainstream kids are all into these days! He missed a few of the newer chart toppers though, I’d add in “Fans of The Big Bopper and Bill Haley & The Comets need not apply.”

I wonder if this is an Australian thing though?

Anywho, wtf does bashing “mainstream music” (from 1999) have anything to do with Evil Dildo’s performance? Unless you’re trying to posit him as the new vanguard of the elite music front.

I was bemoaning the state of live music in Melbourne these days…which all seems so ‘10 years ago’. There is nothing original going on here. The scene is dying because no one cares to invest in anything outside the box so to speak.

I was saying that people would rather spend money on worthless retro rehashes/reunions than anything that actually has something to say. The biggest concert drawcard in Melbourne last year was Pink and Wolfmother. I think that speaks volumes.

I was praising Dildo for keeping the flame lit. Of course he’s going to get my stamp of approval, as would anyone else here.

And what the fuck is this ‘elitist’ bullshit? How can it be elitist if anyone can pay 5 bucks and walk in? Yr just still uppity from back when I used rag on Manson and his ilk.

How feeble.

I can only hope to one day to have Peligro’s official elitist stamp of approval.

Well…it would take a little more than dressing up like Witchy-poo and parading around in yr underwear and belting out C-Grade goth industrial Everyday is Halloween So Kill An Arab Why Dontcha type cover songs and then flagrantly post it everywhich way but loose all over internet forums in the hope that someone, somewhere doesn’t keel over from giggling uncontrollably upon watching it.

It would take a little more than that.

Let’s just say.

Parading around like Witchy Poo??

Oh yeah, now I remember.

<shudders>

Win to Peligro.

Mick, I swear you had me in tears, rolling around on the floor and giggling like an underage japanese school girl who just got shat on by five japanese business men.

Anyone living in Melbourne would know Peligro’s spot on.

There’s more than just a few reasons for this. There does seem to be a general cultural dislike for anything outside the box, as opposed to say in Europe or Japan. A lot of interviews with Aussie noise dudes pretty much say they’re amazed at the response their music gets over there relative to here.

However, I wouldn’t completely pinpoint it on this. I’d say there’s a lot of bands in Melbourne that think outside the box that just can’t be fucked and do it half heartedly, or do a shitload of gigs with little regard for attendance,or for putting on a somewhat entertaining show. So, when you’ve got a guy running a bar, what’s more financially viable? Putting on a weird gig, or getting some shitty covers band?

Personally, I love any music that’s ‘out there’. Yet, at a lot of these gigs, you sort of have to be ‘into it’ to enjoy it; the lay person isn’t going to dig it, unless there’s something to look at or something remotely memorable.

At my gigs, I’ve put a massive effort into making it memorable or entertaining to some extent. A lot of my friends don’t listen to this sort of music, so what better way of getting them into it? And keep the flame burning, so to speak. [:)]

Tonight went great… the turnout was better than last time, and everyone I spoke to genuinely seemed happy with it. Some said it was unbearable at times, but really dug watching the angle grinder spark shit up, watching the visuals on the projector… others dug the music. At the end of the day, if I don’t have any friends come up and say ‘i’d never seen something like this’, then I’ve got to work harder to give them something they’ll remember.

Too many noise artists are just happy to bang pots and pans, or worse yet, sit at a laptop, and leave it at that. Whatever floats their boat, but I can’t see how just leaving it at that is helping greater appreciation of this style.

And what the fuck is this ‘elitist’ bullshit? How can it be elitist if anyone can pay 5 bucks and walk in?

This too was spot on.

I certainly ain’t part of any elite. The only reason I headline the gigs is because I organise them, and the only reason I do that is because I have never been invited to play once. I ain’t exactly a social butterfly, or part of any scene.

I keep the shows free, or at least as cheap as possible, because I’m pretty much doing it for the hell of it. I was sick of seeing bands passing themselves off as ‘entertaining’ or ‘psychedelic’ and not getting up there and doing it myself. And if people are going to come and pay or not, I’ll try pay them back with something a little more out there than yer ordinary gig.

No self indulgence. Getting up there, getting it out.

the ignorant american view of australia is just your typical “throw some shrimp on the barbie, dingo ate the baby” quotes, silverchair and kylie milogue music, drinking fosters beer, and crocodile dundee. But then again it’s probably the same as how us americans get stereotyped as being drunk rednecks from texas with alot of money to throw around and not to much going on in the head.

but uhm… yeah it’s a big place… it’d be a trip to go there and check out the underground scene

Alright fair enough. PWNED.

If I can dish it I can take it.

I will earn Peligro’s stamp of approval soon!
