My apologies...

…but I thought I would post this given there are Melburnians on this board.

I know I have hardly posted these days, but I’ve basically been flat out practicing and organising this…

I’m the last ‘act’. Hate to come across as a spammer, but I figured the poster art was cool and it’d be nice to share that.

I seriously miss posting on the board as often as I was… and I’m meant to be on holidays… [mad]

Nice.

Is it a gig or more of a performance art thing, ie. will there be nude ladies for the sake of nude ladies?

Alas, I’m halfway around the world so I won’t be there but I do have a cousin who’s heading back to Melbourne sometime around now so I’ll drop him a line about it.

All the best with it anyway (and post pics/videos of it after, esp. if there is… you know… TITS!)

Good luck with the gig Dildo… I too would go if I also weren’t halfway around the world.

Shit… since I missed the Severed Heads 30th Anniversary gig with Stephen Mallinder last week, and the whole Circa 1979-Signal To Noise Post Punk retrospective I’ve been kicking myself for not living in Australia.

Thanks man. Much appreciated. If your cousin does come, tell him to look for the guy in the suit wearing the pig mask… [;)]

It’s a gig pretty much, but I’ve got a friend who’s a photographer and he’s made a bunch of photos and put them into this weird little film he’s made. I’ve got no idea what to expect, but it’s gonna be projected up there. I was hoping to get some other visual things, but I just ran out of time and money for that [:/].

The music is pretty much drone stuff… sort of like Earth, sunn o)))… b asically heavy, loud drone sort of stuff with attention to melody and chords instead of just being outright noise. I’m not sure how people are gonna take it but… fuck it, the Arthouse is set to close and it makes sense to just go out there and play while it’s still there.

Bit miffed about the abscence of nude women (when nude women are featured on the flyer…but consider me there!!

Good luck with the gig, and nice poster!

Found a slideshow of pics from the Sevs show, Chemical:

The Arthouse is closing? Not that I ever went there but it looked like a cool venue. The TOTE is closing down too I hear (I think it was the TOTE anyway)… went there a few times to see my mates band, before he got a little radio play and wont return my calls anymore sniff nobuddy luffs me… I’m going back to the trent/emo thread.

Thanks 1002 [:)]

Colorful! Would be great if a DVD of the Sevs set ever surfaces down the road.

Ooh oh oh, I’ll be there!

That fucking TEARS it.

Fuck skipping town to Mexico when things in the States get too… REAL…

I’m bouncin’ on over to Melbourne.

You still need to get your ice to Phoenix. I’ll be bugging you in March/April for our album release party.

I completely fucking forgot about this. Just… great… [mad]. Just as bad as the time I missed the opportunity to meet Sleazy from Throbbing Gristle on account of a poor memory…

I would’ve posted back sooner, but I’ve been flat out with sorting stuff out for this gig. Heaps of equipment problems… siiiiiiigh. [crazy]

Bit miffed about the abscence of nude women

But I promise there will be a 10 minute interpretive dance of one of my best friends doing so to tracks of me and him laughing, crying, and screaming. Perhaps you can bring ze nude nubiles? [angelic]

The Tote is shut. But not for good maybe… one of the guys that runs the Old Bar may be stepping in to save it.

What killed it was the Labor gov’ts liqour licensing laws. Calling the Tote high risk? At the protest, cops said to us first hand that they’d been working in Collingwood for 15 years and only had to go there once (and that ‘attack’ was due to a neo-Nazi axe murderer that just got out of jail looking to cause trouble).

It’s basically Brumby’s desperate grab for cash, because he’s running a massive deficit and all he can do is just hike up taxes, licensing, etc etc. Brack’s Land Tax was killing small businesses years before this happened…

anyway, I don’t just blame the government. The amount of bands that rock up, and have this arrogance about them which sez ‘hey, this venue is lucky to have US, so let’s just be happy with the 6 friends we brought and get our money’… and has meant places like the Tote, Arthouse, etc have really suffered.

Baillieu isn’t a much better option; wants all ‘high risk’ places to close at 9pm. Righto…

went there a few times to see my mates band, before he got a little radio play and wont return my calls anymore

It’s funny when that happens with people who get a sniff of success… ah well, to hell with them… [;)]

Also, to anyone who may come, don’t hesitate to come up and say hello before the show. I’ll be the dork wearing a suit…

yes, a suit [blush]… if Rowland S Howard is gone, SOMEONE’S gotta go do it… [;)]

Aaah the Labour Government.

Fucking over Victorians since 1999.

I’ll be there. I’ll come up and say hi and who knows where it may lead!!!

just keep your eyes peeled for the dork in a suit with a completely stressed look on his face… [;)]

I’m really gonna miss the Arty when it’s gone.

One pronger came last time, so I figured why the hell not?

[laugh]

The ‘debut’ gig went well. It was pre-empted by an ‘interpretive dancer’ who sprayed everyone with tomato paste, bowled people over, and dry humped, and threw around, a piece of raw meat.

I was not bothered about it, except when he was yelling in my friends’ faces, thrusting them, nearly bowled over my girlfriend and sprayed that silly liquid around. I shit you not, I received complaints over the net for up to a week after the gig.

But, 90% of the people there thought it was hilarious and/or bizarre.

As for my playing… I started off good, dropped off, then picked up again. Hopefully, this gig will be a little more consistent. I’m playing with a drummer and a friend on keys. We’re just going to go for it and do whatever. Acoustic, drone, straight out noise, black metal, jazz, everything. We’re going to be using an angle grinder at one stage, if that’s any indication of where it’s headed.

To anyone who read this, thanks for bothering to. Sorry I haven’t been posted as much as I could lately, but things have been ridiculously hectic. Hope everyone’s doing shvelt [;)]

Good luck with the upcoming gig, I’d be there if I were close by. If you can get one of your friends to tape a bit it would be cool to see some footage.

The story of your last show reminded me of a show I did over a decade ago where one of the acts was a guy who arrived onstage in a body bag, and proceeded to crawl out of it. His whole act consisted of him recitiing wretched poetry while he typed on this old typewriter that was miked up. He also had the adidas symbol shaved into his chest hair (???) I cannot for the life of me remember his name, but we still talk about ‘Body Bag Boy’.

The apologies are unnecessary. It’s a small community here. Nothing wrong with whoring your shit.

EDIT - Especially live shows in Australia given that everyone here is Australian anyway.

Have your recorded any of this new drone stuff? It seems like a 180 from your Mr. Bungle type stuff. Plans for a future release?

You fucking had me at “angle grinder.”

WHY THE HELL ARE YOU IN AUSTRALIA FUCKIN AAAAAARRRGGH

Thanks for that. [:)] I taped the last one, but my friend is very lazy and I am STILL waiting for her to put it on the net. This one will be taped, but just on VHS until I figure out how to get it on the net.

This past gig of yours sounds AWESOME. Is that taped and on the net by any chance?

I have to admit, a lot of my friends were saying ‘this guy is insane’, but I have to disagree. I don’t think people who do this sort of stuff are genuinely insane or unstable. They planned it to the extent of buying the props and choreographing what they were doing to some degree. To me, that lack of spontaneity sort of nullifies whatever qualifies as genuinely ‘insane’.

I will say this though, anyone who does this stuff is a genuine eccentric though… and hell, at least it’s entertaining and gives people something to talk about. If more bands thought like this, maybe so many venues in Melbourne wouldn’t be closing down…

It is, and some friends who’d heard the stuff on the myspace who came to the gig were totally taken aback. They did not expect it, yet they didn’t exactly rubbish it. I think I managed to win over at least a couple of people… I think…

Anyway, I’ve become obsessed with this type of music and the effect it has on people watching it. Seeing sunn o))) live was definitely something which changed my attitude; plus, it was nice getting a full body massage for two hours [laugh]

However, I didn’t like much of sunn o)))'s recorded stuff (except for their latest album). To me, it didn’t capture the volume and intensity of the live show, and just sounded overly repetitive. The lack of volume really mitigated the effect of the music.

So, I figured I’d do this stuff live, but never record it. The recorded stuff however, cannot be done live; I don’t like telling people what to play, and hate the rehearsal process, and I prefer live music which is improvised and spontaneous to some degree.

It also has the perverse effect of alienating and pissing off anyone who comes expecting to see poppy rock songs, or better yet, opening their eyes to something they might even like. I didn’t see the point in preaching to the converted. For that exact same reason, I’ll be doing a solo piano performance… but supported completely by metal bands, who’s audience will probably expect noise or whatever…

You fucking had me at “angle grinder.”

WHY THE HELL ARE YOU IN AUSTRALIA FUCKIN AAAAAARRRGGH

Because my ancestors are convicts. I think this ‘angle grinder’ is potentially going to see me blacklisted from the venue… [laugh]
