So that steady diet of trucker speed and raw whiskey finally caught up to the old boy. Sucks. He’s got a hell of a constitution though. Wish I could see them live.
I saw them live in the early 90’s on the Bastards Tour.
Live they are an exciting spectacle, although I never cared too much for their studio output apart from the odd release here and there. Another Perfect Day is a good one.

Saw them open for Black Sabbath about 1996 and for Iron Maiden and Dio in 2002. They absolutely killed both times.

That was my first time seeing Dio live. I honestly had never given much care about the guy before that and my buddy and I were joking about it and talking about how that would be our nachos break. But seeing him live changed EVERYTHING. That little troll put on a show like nobody could and he screamed his guts out on stage. Just amazing. I couldn’t have asked for a better 3 band line up. It was just incredible. That was my first time seeing Maiden too, actually.

No doubt…the first time I saw Dio was The Last in Line tour…I’ll never forget it…that band was firing on all cylinders…and then the next year on the Sacred Heart tour they brought out the giant dragon…amazing…it scorched a hole in my teenage mind…saw him many times throughout the years with both Dio and Sabbath…a great performer,an excellent vocalist and a kind man who genuinely cared about his fans…very sad he is gone…

Shortly after I saw him for the fist time live that movie “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey” came out and I was so touched by the Dio segments. He just seemed like the coolest dude on the planet and my buddy and I wanted to chill and drink beer with him or play with swords or something. But yeah, he really seemed like a gentle and humble guy. Definitely missed.
Especially that part in the extras where he was talking about how there are so many good bands out there that don’t make it.
Back to Motorhead, saw them open for Sabbath (w/ Dio) and Judas Priest in '08. I would really like to see Motorhead headline, but the only place that’s close by on the current US tour is at the Warfield in SF and I already said how I’m boycotting the place because of shitty sound. May have to bite the bullet and go if I have money since this may be their last big hurrah.

Maiden: Powerslave 
I never had much patience for Dio or Maiden but Motorhead are ok. When I’m in the right mood they can hit the spot and hit it well. I own the first three Motorhead albums along with a bunch of stuff Lemmy did with Hawkwind.
Anyone here who digs Lemmy but has never checked out Hawkwind, please do so. You will not be disappointed.
I have heard Lemmy-era Hawkwind which is cool but I’m not really a big Hawkwind guy. Should I revisit them? Name your top three, I will try it again.
Lemmy-era Hawkwind is cool. But be careful with later stuff because they seem to have crawled up their own asses on more than one occasion.
Yeah Hawkwind have a spotty discog but the stuff that is great is really great…

I also did Levitation,Sonic Attack and a few others…nut yeah there is a lot of shit in their discog…definitely spotty…they did some albums under the name Hawklords also…
First time seeing Maiden was Piece of Mind…with Quiet Riot opening up haha…then I saw every tour after that up until 7th Son…then took a long break and saw them several more times from 2000 up to present…
Should I revisit them? Name your top three, I will try it again.
In Search Of Space (1971) - pretty much contains everything worthy from their “hippy” era you will ever need to hear from the band.
Quark, Strangeness & Charm (1977) - quirky, but surprisingly good later period album. Very synth heavy. Probably my personal favourite although it’s an acquired taste.
Warrior On The Edge Of Time (1975)- Lemmy’s last hurrah with the band. A classic.
Levitation (1980) - one of their last great albums before the rot fully set in. Shorter songs and less psychedelic but it has a certain sound that really appeals to me.
And of course :
Space Ritual (1973) - one of the greatest live albums of all time.
