MINISTRY's Final Release Will Be An All-Covers Record

“Supernaut” by BLACK SABBATH (from “Supernaut” EP)
“Lay Lady Lay” by BOB DYLAN (from “Filth Pig”)
“Roadhouse Blues” by THE DOORS (from “The Last Sucker”)
“The Light Pours out of Me” by MAGAZINE (from “Animosity”)

will they re-record this stuff so the album will retain sound-wise consistency?

I don’t know about that, but I imagine they’ll re-record some of them due to the fact that the original recordings are from record labels that Ministry is no longer affiliated with.

It almost seems like an act of desperation to get something…ANYTHING out on the market in order to make a quick buck. He is obviously strapped for cash in a bad way. I mean, what else has 13th Planet to offer the alternative music market? Prong!!! Pffft. Good luck making a profit off that lame duck. There just seems to be no real thought behind this - no real artistic sensibilty. Why kill off the career of probably THE most important heavy industrial/alternative metal band of all time by a…a…covers album befitting the likes Ugly Kid Joe!?! Who in their right mind would want to hear the band who once stung our ears with the likes ‘Flashback’ and ‘LORAH’ belt out a cover of …gulp…SPACE TRUCKIN???

Oh, and whatever happened to …Al’s…um… ‘discovery’ Spyderbaby??

ministry crippled itself with the filthpig drastic sound departure, then sort of carried on afloat and then finally collapsed when paul left. i know al acts all independent now with “fuck all, i do what i want” but i don’t think ministry would ever “rise” again. yes they had three bush albums since then but they are all meaningless.

Oh, and whatever happened to …Al’s…um… ‘discovery’ Spyderbaby??

why, he sang (in the worst marilyn-manson-wannabee voice) on the revco cd of course! even did guest vox on “lieslieslies”. after that, it’s unknown, probably that poor emo guy ran off from al’s camp, scared by the empty wine bottles?

there is an embedded player, just keep pressing “next” until you find everyday is halloween.

hooooly shit, check that out!!!

he totally ruined the song!

it’s SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD!

i mean, it’s B A D.

fuckin’ manson wannabe.

bad choice al, very bad choice.

I suppose what’s most surprising, aside from the selection of some truly cheesy songs, is that it was always my impression that Al absolutely hated the Beatles. Especially after I once heard him announce, “I HATE the fuckin’ Beatles. The Stones rule.”

He’s always had a fondness for the Doors. I can recall him reading “No One Gets Out Alive” by Danny Sugarman.

maybe they offered him free wine? [:)]

How unoriginal. These are the kind of covers released by bands like Van Halen. Surely there are more obscure/less obvious tunes that they could look into!! How about covers by some of their quoted influences such as:

Chrome
Birthday Party
Big Black
Fad Gadget
(early) Roxy Music
Public Image
Killing Joke

C’MON!!! DIG A LITTLE DEEPER!!

Honestly…Deep Purple’s ‘SPACE TRUCKIN’!!! BLACK BETTY??? Is this Ministry or Def Leppard?

Couldnt agree more (so strange to agree with you Peligro haha). I’d also love to hear them cover Bauhaus, Joy Division or Echo and the Bunnymen or something…

I still say they should cover some Ministry. [laugh]

Why not some Killing Joke songs on the final tour, as half of 'em will be there?

I am excited to hear I Want You - I still noodle around with that riff, on occasion. Maybe the collaboration next week will be worth it.

Wasn’t it rumored that Ministry covered Roxy Music’s “Same Old Scene” back in '82 or '83? If that exists ANYWHERE I’d love to hear it.

And, yeah, I’d personally love to see some Fad Gadget and Roxy Music songs on there, maybe something from Japan, Suicide, Wire, Psychedelic Furs or Cabaret Voltaire or TG (“Hot on the Heels of Love” would be an easy but cool cover) And just for kicks, I’d love to hear Al do “Warm Leatherette”.

Hell, even some oddball stuff like Durutti Column, DAF, Hawkwind, A Certain Ratio, early Human League, or Information Society would be interesting. And a Bowie song from the Berlin era is always a safe bet!

I’d personally like to see a 2-CD covers album if Al feels it necessary. Maybe a “funk” and a “punk” disc or discs split into countries of origin like an “American” disc and an “English” one.

I almost forgot what would be the absolute best damn song ever for Al (or Revco!) to cover as a farewell gift/joke:

“Sex Dwarf” by Soft Cell!

Wait, I almost forgot that Trent’s already covered that one! So Al really wouldn’t touch that song.

when did trent cover that?

Wow, Í…I don´t know what to say…it´s terrible!!

when did trent cover that?

He didn’t. Trent did “Memorabilia”.

he did…during one of his first shows under // / //. It was up on you tube for a while.

there’s always been talk of fad gadget.
what about a TKK cover?
now THAT would be brilliant.

MrsJay answers some questions & mentions a small detail about the final release:

For the dream song, was that the “real” tone of your voice? or just a character you were voicing? To me it sounded like CA “Valley Girl”-speak.

The entire “voice over” is all me.
Ya, I kinda, like, totally sound Valley Girl, like, sometimes.
It’s actually called: Canadian Upspeak – every sentence sounds like a question,
Even if it’s not.

And in the dream song, it sounded like the plot was going towards an ominous ending–like some incubus, a male demonic entity who rapes females at night, sometimes in a dream state. Then after the last line: “And then it [he?] kissd me, and I woke up…,” there’s this question, "Do you believe in angels?’’ A disembodied voice says, “No.” Who said that, AL? and what was meaning

Yes, that was Al. At that time, he didn’t believe in Angels. I think he does now.

Though ironically the married couples I knew of had a husband/wife who were both opposites in fundamental ways. The dichotomy was like the glue that held the relationship together.

Ah…that would be US, haha!

So for your dream, it seemed benign. Were there any frightening ones you discussed with AL? “Deity” was ripe for this type of nightmarish dream.

his conversation was based on a poem, based on a dream that was not a nightmare, but a pleasant dream about an angel.

When you say that AL called you, was that the start of the relationship?

Our relationship started as a friendship in 1988 in Toronto when Ogre introduced me to Al. I had read Al some of my poetry (he patiently actually listened) and I guess when he was in at Chicago Trax one night recording he called me up to ask me about my “latest poems” – I had no idea I was being taped! But, that’s Al for ya. Little Trickster

Cat/fyt Wedding Attire

Al and I are thinking we want to wear our birthday suits….

Scrapbook Title

Awesome suggestions…but I have to say I am LOVING TOURettes that is pretty funny

Tour Routing

I work with our agent and promoters on the routing.

Ogre/Al

Al would LOVE to work with Ogre again…soon. He’d like to put Ogre on the Cover album

NEWS…
Wayne and Tony Static from Static X were here last nite putting some vox and bass on the Cover album…nice!
Totally sweet and fun guys…FORGOT to take a picture…brain dead from exhaustion.

luvsmrsjsy

Sounds like the cover CD will have many special guests…I would hope to see some older members (besides Ogre) contribute to Al’s last goodbye!

Maybe a surprise appearance by Ian Mackaye? They could cover a Minor Threat song, which would take up all of 40 seconds on the CD.

I just assumed she was kinda high.

Wayne Static was on Greater Wrong of the Right too, wasn’t he? That guys’ not going to rest until he gets to appear on an album by every classic '80s industrial artist.

Eh, guys say lots of dumb stuff to get laid.

LOL

What cover is it, exactly, that Ogre is supposed to be showing interest in? Would you say it’s “Pig on Her Head” by Laurie Berkner, or “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” by They Might Be Giants?
