MINISTRY mainman Al Jourgensen has revealed to Germany’s [url “http://www.metal-hammer.de/Ministry_allerletztes_Album_31_07_07-site-hammer.html”]Metal Hammer magazine that the group’s previously announced “final” album, “The Last Sucker”, will be followed by an all-covers release, tentatively due in 2008. According to Jourgensen, the as-yet-untitled effort will contain “a lot of different cover songs from various bands,” some of which have already been released on MINISTRY albums over the years.
MINISTRY’s upcoming covers album is expected to include the following tracks, among others:
Previously released songs:
“Supernaut” by BLACK SABBATH (from “Supernaut” EP) “Lay Lady Lay” by BOB DYLAN (from “Filth Pig”) “Roadhouse Blues” by THE DOORS (from “The Last Sucker”) “The Light Pours out of Me” by MAGAZINE (from “Animosity”)
New songs:
“I Want You” by THE BEATLES “Under My Thumb” by THE ROLLING STONES “Space Trucking” by DEEP PURPLE “Black Betty” by RAM JAM “Radar Love” by GOLDEN EARRING
strange turn of events. the way this should go down is that this should be a 13th Planet Records cover record.
And have revco do “golden earing”,
1000 homos - “supernaut”,
revco “black betty” (which has already recently been covered btw…
ministry do “I want you”
lard “under my thumb”
Where’s the punk/new wave covers that influenced Al early in his career? Please give us more than just the Magazine tune. Since it compiles some old covers, I’d imagine we’ll see RevCo’s Rod Stewart cover, too? I do like the Stones song, so I’m curious about that one, but Golden Earring? Am I the only person who can’t stand that freaking annoying song?!
Strange release overall - half compilation, half new cover songs. Hmmph, “Roadhouse Blues” on the last TWO Minstry releases. Who woulda thunk it.
Whoo, Radar Love. I’ve been obsessed with that song recently, lol… no idea why. I heard a King Diamond cover (maybe it was mercyful fate, I forget) of it, but it sounded pretty much like the original.
Haha, black betty, another song I love. Anyone hear heard the Spiderbait version? Dunno how popular they are outside australia so probably not. Is that it thought, 9 songs?
I dont think do ya think… will be included, as this is a “ministry” release. So presumably the version will be the one from greatest fits.
With supernaut too… so there are 3 versions? I always thought the black box/EP versions were the same, it was just admitted that it was trent on the black box version.
“Supernaut” by BLACK SABBATH (from “Supernaut” EP)
“Lay Lady Lay” by BOB DYLAN (from “Filth Pig”)
“Roadhouse Blues” by THE DOORS (from “The Last Sucker”)
“The Light Pours out of Me” by MAGAZINE (from “Animosity”)
will they re-record this stuff so the album will retain sound-wise consistency?
You never know until they release it. I just hope they do a better job than the recent Doors cover. As far as Smothered Hope goes, I don’t think you can beat the original Skinny Puppy version.
The original is…well the original, but i have to say the live cover on the burning inside single is excellent! Remember i used to play that track over and over when i bought it - 10 out of 10!
if that’s the case, ricky’s hand alone makes the cd worth buying.
RICKY’S HAND… DRILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
damn, hope everyone notices the “…nah…” comment. Would like to see something like that to the tracklist…one can only dream [:)]

How unoriginal. These are the kind of covers released by bands like Van Halen. Surely there are more obscure/less obvious tunes that they could look into!! How about covers by some of their quoted influences such as:
Chrome
Birthday Party
Big Black
Fad Gadget
(early) Roxy Music
Public Image
Killing Joke
C’MON!!! DIG A LITTLE DEEPER!!
Honestly…Deep Purple’s ‘SPACE TRUCKIN’!!! BLACK BETTY??? Is this Ministry or Def Leppard?
it’d be cool to hear Roxy Music’s “Ladytron” including Al’s sax playing!
I know Max played sax but didn’t Al too (on 10/10 or whatever it’s called from Spoon)
