Nah, someone on this board asked Paul about the setlist while the tour was going on and he had no idea about it.
Al also flat-out said that he wasn’t playing old songs because he didn’t want to.
It doesn’t make any sense to read more into it if both parties say the same basic thing.
As for the “Paul loving Al bashers”… damned straight I am. But as for “where were you?”… I bought my Lead into Gold back when I first got into Ministry around 93 or so… back when one relied on interviews and “related artists” lists in record stores in order to find out what was out there. And Pink Anvil I picked up when I found out about it too.
I agree with Dastardly Deeds that the reasons there are so much animosity against what Al has been doing lately is that three albums of thrashy metal with samples gets boring. And that The Last Sucker was a terrible, paint-by-numbers, throwaway album that was a big waste of my money. And that the setlist on the “farewell” tour was exceedingly lame for a last tour, and even more so because Ministry advertised it as playing songs from their entire career on their own website (false advertising pisses me off).
Aside from that, everything from the last sucker till now has been just super-boring, bad music.
We can disagree on getting annoyed by this, but one thing I can say, which is simple and straightforward is that THE MUSIC itself from The Last Sucker to this abomination is boring to me. It’s crappy music that seems to have no effort put into it.
And this ACDC crap… well… I hate ACDC to begin with, so that’s a strike against it. The preview sounded terrible.
As for the Paul rejoining/taking over the Ministry name? I wouldn’t hold my breath. He seemed fine doing his thing with Flowering Blight (Awesome) and selling his super-expensive guitar and bass pedals. I can’t see this happening. …love the optimism though…
ACTUAL new album or compilation of unreleased tracks?
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
My guess is a compilation of unreleased/leftover stuff (from the 13th Planet years), remixes, dj-harware/Sin thingie, etc.
OR, Al’s “solo” album - as in, they decide to put that out under the Ministry name because it’s better known/might sell better. In this case, I would predict Al would just say: “we decided to use the name so more people would know what it is” and assert that this was not really a re-forming, but just a re-branding of something.
But both of those are only guesses.
I suppose we just have to wait and see.
If this ACDC cover is any indication though, I can’t see it being any good. And I certainly won’t buy it if this is any indication.
And Akbar… Paul with the Melvins would be pretty nifty, but I also don’t see it happening. (And thanks for putting me on to the Melvins back a year or so ago… they are indeed cool).
Wow… that was a big-assed post!
In Vancouver Al didn’t sing on any of the non-bush trilogy songs (NWO, Just One Fix and Thieves)… and we didn’t get so what.
