Ministry - Thunderstruck (Made Famous by AC/DC)

Not sure what Skateboard is. Maybe a minor label within Cleopatra?

Skateboard is these guys, I think: http://www.skateboard-marketing.com/

What a ridiculous '90s-style website. [cool]

Turns out “running a label” isn’t quite the same as sitting around the old Waxtrax offices after all, is it Al?

I doubt Al will go back on tour, especially after the setlist from c u latour and his shit talking in interviews on playing live. Says he feels like a jukebox on stage. And yeah I would like to see Paul weasel he Ministry moniker from Al and see what would happen. But I’d hope it wouldn’t sound like Flowering Blight. Not saying that sux but still

2 things:
#1 It would appear Al needs cash. I wonder how desperate he is for cash … … … so desperate that he would sell the Ministry moniker to Paul Barker?

there’s the avenue for for Barker returning the band to glory! not only that, he could hire Al as a fucking employee!

#2 Doesn’t Martin Atkins own/run Cleopatra? Why would Al go there? Especially after all the shit Al has talked… are there any bridges Al hasn’t burned?

Says he feels like a jukebox on stage.

Says he feels like a jukebox on stage performing Ministry songs but has no qualms about releasing tired, belated covers of his favourite driving and beer drinking anthems.

And what’s the deal with the shitty artwork?

This guy has zero respect for his fanbase. Assumes they’ll buy any ol’ crap with his name attached. Let’s do our best to prove him wrong.

Anyone who buys this deserves to be slapped.

Al on Cleopatra is a sure sign that Ministry is over (even as it appears they’re coming back) as pretty much no “going concern” has ever been signed to Cleo, it’s a halfway house for the forgettable and forgotten.

Absolutely SPOT ON.

End of thread.

This is some pretty funny shit, imo.

Nope. Atkins has (had?) Invisible and Underground Inc. Some dude by the name of Brian Perera runs shop at Cleopatra.

I hate Cleopatra because they subsist on pointless compilations and tribute discs, but they DO keep good old-skool Goth rock in print.

Praise the Lard!

From Cleopatra’s website:

Dun-dun-dunnnnnn!

Weird.

This being Cleopatra I expect nothing less than some really sub-par junior goth artwork thrown together for the cover replete with misspellings. Even that announcement banner looks dodgy.

This is exactly my sentiment. I don’t care if he doesn’t give a shit about what he does or what people think of him. He’s only an artist if people appreciate his work, he can only pay the bills and buy his wine if people buy his crap. It is absolutely patent that he doesn’t care about anyone and he’ll agree to anything that looks to make him look wanted. Any loyalty to this festering pile is loony. Ministry fans should have boycotted his crap years ago. That would have slapped a bit of sense into him or else he would have stopped and Ministry could have been retired with its dignity intact. I know this announcement is newsworthy as it seems Ministry’s retirement will be short lived after all (which is actually not surprising, many people here joked about how long it will be till he resurrects the band name) but I can’t understand people actually having any hope for anything he does anymore. If there is a new Ministry album it’s only Ministry in name of band and frontman, it’s not going to be Ministry so I think it would be great if people stopped treating it as so. Yeah I’m a dickhead, whatever.

I agree with this sentiment 100%. The new Ministry/Revco has just been so consistently awful that I think most of us gave up a long time ago and are on prongs to talk 80’s and 90’s Ministry or other topics.

So sorry to those who truly are excited about the new material for being a grouchy old curmudgeon, but I and others just can’t seem to find anything nice to say about the new material.

And yes, Cleopatra Records = the seediest dive bar in the most run-down skid row part of town where dreams go to die.

You know it kind of makes since, I mean think about it, mikey comes back, the solo stuff was’nt as much of a depature as stated,Tommy prong kind of m.i.a. (i did’nt like him as ministry’s lead anyway, that’s mikey’s spot) I bet with mikey there ,money woes and this solo thing they just said fuck it.

EDIT: Also with FIX getting delayed till 2011 and al and paul being credited on it maybe they are playing nice again, that is the only reason i could think why he would bring back the ministry name so soon. He flirted with his WS sound again maybe with paul we’ll get LORAH 2

i don’t know why you guys are being so bitter. you SHOULDN’T expect his work to sound anything like it did before, because that was 20+ years ago. people change, they evolve. i for one think that the bush trilogy was decent. so i don’t know what to think about this. hopefully barker is involved…

If anything Al Jourgensen has DEvolved, but I regardless I don’t think a biological term like evolution is a very good metaphor for the growth of change of an artist. As I and many others have put to words on many occasions our feelings to the new Ministry material, I wont go into great detail but I’ll give you the short version of many of our feelings towards the matter:

Basically, Al Jourgensen went from making music that way exciting, experimental and challenging to making music that was boring, predictable and formulaic. In the process he burned a lot of great musicians by trying to cheat them out of money and creative credit and replaced them with lesser talent. We are upset that a guy who used to display some talent and integrity (at least artistically) is using the moniker of “Ministry” to release butt-rock cover albums. I don’t speak for all of us but I’m guessing over half on Prongs would agree with my sentiments.

i for one think that the bush trilogy was decent. so i don’t know what to think about this. hopefully barker is involved…

One, MAYBE two angry, pissed off punk/thrash sounding albums bashing Bush I could live with, but 3 whole albums?!?!

But what is really unforgivable is :

a) The Last Sucker - just awful… you really have to be on crack to like this one or think it lives up to ANY of the classic material

b) The CULATOUR - that awful joke of a farewell tour where Al burned his fans by claiming he would play all the classics but mainly playing bad new material, most of which he didn’t even bother to sing on, with an encour that included songs from:

c) Cover Up - Do I really need to say anything hear?

d) almost forgot, RANTOLOGY!

So hey buddy, if you like Al’s new stuff and are excited about it more power to you, but if you post it on Prongs don’t expect to many of us to respond with too much enthusiasm. These days on Prongs, positivity is reserved for bands like the Melvins and Jesu.

the problem is, he’s DE-volved

Oh and BTW while it’s possible that Al and Paul have agreed to bury the hatchet for the sake of making money off of old releases and the FIX movie, if any of you think Paul would attach his name to a thunderstruck cover, YOU OUT’CHO GODDAMNED MINDS!!!

I know it won’t happen but I’d love if Paul was some how able to sequester the Ministry name from Al.

Either way Ministry would suck now.

Melvins need to get rid of Big Business and hire Paul.
