I remember when I first bought the album, back in late 91 or early 92 or thereabouts, a friend of mine who was into trance techno, listened to the album with me one afternoon and (with a sour look on his face) described it as “if Duran Duran had taken lots of speed and decided to do Killing Joke and Flipper covers”.

Still makes me laugh even today…
Which is somewhat true, given Ministry’s history. Mind is still one of my favorite Ministry albums. Test is kind of lame, but the rest of it is awesome. I think lyrically, it is Al’s best. I like the contrast of hard hitting songs and mesmerizing song. Great stuff.
ok , so i must be the only moron Ministry fan who digs this tune…each to there own.nothing great.
but i will put ( the last sucker song high above most songs by them )…
The song isn’t terrible, but isn’t great either. I just find it interesting at best. There certainly isn’t another song like it in the Ministry catalog.
the fact that “Mind” has Chris vox on 3 songs and that Wizard guy on “Test”, only adds variety, and (to me) is one of the positive things about the album. afterwards, it was all Al + one song vox by Paul (or Gibby in case of “Hotrod”)
i just recently listened to “Sphinctour” - and “So What” while was good, just doesnt sound exaaaactly right without Chris.
btw live in 92 tours Chris was doing vox on “TV Song” and he is actually credited as writer… why on the album version (AND on the single version) it’s Al’s doing the vocals?
as for that website / article thing on songs that derail albums
but “Test” derails the album with six interminable minutes of basically one riff and drumbeat
first of all, it has 2 riffs. now let’s look how other songs on that album measure on those quoted criteria:
thieves - 3 riffs (intro/verse, chorus, and little chromatic riff)
burning inside - ‘2’ riffs (which are actually one, just played different way)
never believe - 1 riff
cannibal song - 1 riff
breathe - 2 riffs (verse, chorus)
so what - 1 riff (with one alteration which occurs every other time it’s played)
faith collapsing - 1 riff
dream song - it’s a fucking A#/Bb drone
so thats not the weak point of “test”. i dont mind the vox in it or lyrics, the instrumentation is badass i must say. and it works as a track in the album, so why the fuck not.

actually there are two songs with paul singing! useless and vex & siolence. both awesome tracks.
And Stolen. Barker got one song per album. And probably wrote the lyrics to Scarecrow. I’d be surprised if that wasn’t him.
touche! wow, i forgot about that song. this is definitely a sickl track. i don’t think i’ve ever listened to animositisomina from start to finish. way too annoying on the ears.
I’m going to say it, and I don’t think I’m alone in this. I’d say that Animositisomina is the worst Ministry album. It’s dull and empty of ideas. More an any other album, it sounds like two guys that dont get on very well trying to put out an album because it’s their job. I’m much more likely to put on Mole or Rio Grande (I haven’t heard anything later than those two albums). The Magazine cover is pretty good, but I might as well just listen to Magazine.
And from earlier, I wasn’t really slagging off Cannibal Song (which I like a lot).

Yeah, I agree completely on animositoastedsamosa. I haven’t heard relapse so maybe it’s better than that, but I’d take Last Sucker, Rio Grande and definitely Mole (which I think is a great Ministry album) any day of the week.
yes. by “afterwards it was all Al + Paul on one track” i meant per album of course.
i think scarecrow is al on vocals. not nasal and thinny enough to be paul, even with all the fx.
as for animositisomina - its good for what it is - album that has basically no new ideas, but just sounds as if they ‘play it safe’ - i.e. doing songs the way they they’ve already done them alot before. i still consider it to be last ministry album. what came afterwards is just something entirely different.
To be honest, I wasn’t even aware that Paul did any vocals. Also, I was unaware that Connelly did vocals on So What. Cannibal Song and Never Believe are obvious but he must have sung So What in a such Jourgensen-esque style that I couldn’t even tell.

I like Relapse better than Animositisomina and the entire Bush Trilogy. However Relapse doesn’t compare to the 80s/90s stuff. I might like the Bush-era a bit better if it were just one album with the best songs. There is too much filler for me to take at times.

That’s a perfect way of describing Animositisomina. An album that I do like and also consider to be Ministry’s last, but is just lacking and a pain to listen to all the way through. After I listen to the 3-4 songs that I really like off of the album I usually can’t be bothered with the rest. I like it better than anything that came after it though.
