i dunno. test works ok as part of “mind” album.
i mean, stuff like “never believe” is hardly better than “test”, and they never played that at all.

Test would’ve sounded awesome live.

haha i can’t believe you’re comparing test and never believe! i’m sure connelly would be choked lol.
decided to bring both live versions i have out and jam both.
12/31/89 crowd i thought was into not the best quality tho.
1/11/90 crowd was into it bad quality .rough
I always thought Mind was a terribly uneven album with stuff like “Never Believe” “Cannibal Song” and “Test” all of which I thought was pretty disposable mixed together with some of the best Ministry ever did (“Breathe” “Theives” " Dream Song")
I think a good live version would be cool…
as i see most here don’t like the song.
Test would’ve sounded awesome live.
The actual instrumental is awesome…the vocals let it down…now if they had’ve got Schoolly D to rap over it we would’ve had a stone cold killer tune!!!
The song sounds like a loop of “Stainless Steel Providers”, but the vocals . . . . yeah, white people shouldn’t rap.
I never realized that people weren’t into Never Believe. I always thought that was an excellent one. I sort of understand not digging Cannibal Song, but I like that too. Sort of a hypnotic druggy looper.
As for Test, eh… yeah. I’ve grown accustomed to it, but it’s not a career highlight.
actually i think that guy’s black gunnar just sometimes ‘old skool’ style does’nt hold up well

Well, alright then, Gents. Let us proceed with laying down some proper urban street rhyms, shall we?

I don’t mind never believe either. Test is really the only song that doesn’t fit with the feel of the record.
Late,
grmpysmrf
cannibal song is cool. i love never believe. especially when connelly goes “we haven’t much time left!”.
According to discogs this tune has K-Lite and The Slogan God who what I think make Test seem kind of rotten.
I like the instrumental side of Test and would love to hear an instrumental version of it. I’m just not into the vocals.
This tune with K-Lite and The Slogan God is not bad, reminds me of Twitch-era Ministry and early 90s techno in the vein of The Prodigy with some good sampled giutar. I don’t know what K-Lite/Slogan God really do in this song but they’re on it and it’s good. Trent Reznor has some involvement but not exactly sure what.
Huh, my speakers are fucked so the vox don’t come thru much, but that was awesome from what i can tell. I guess k.lite is the black guy in the beg? E.Zimmerman is listed he directed 'head like a hole/down in it" so yeah trent could be involved
EDIT this song seems to feature him more he’s the bass player/vox this is kinda cool it’s like 90’s club house music/with an industrial look having E.Zimmerman involved def. gave them cool vids
Someone asked Trent about that in an interview at one point, years ago. I believe he said that he gave them a disk of some samples or something and they credited him on the album for a name-check.
I bought that Crunch-O-Matik album back when it first came out and recall liking it. Had no idea that the “Test” guy was involved. Weird.
Crunch-o-matic was what UNGH! (aka video dorks from H-Gun) became. So there was already a standing connection to Ministry.
Really? Didn’t realize that. That Ungh! EP was pretty terrible, if I recall.

Not like Cannibal Song?!?!? Holy Cow.
The problem with The Mind… is that there’s just not enough Al on it. It’s way too dominated by Chris Connelly and by off kilter seemed-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time half baked stuff. Honestly, if it wasn’t for Thieves (which was recorded at the last minute if I remember correctly), it would hardly pass as a Ministry album.
That being said, I still like the album a lot. It’s definitely their PIL meets Killing Joke moment and has aged fairly well over the last 20 years or so.
It just needed another fast/angry song to be slotted in instead of the very silly Test.
