MINISTRY song test

got the day off from work and decided to jam some live ministry.as i pondered , was wondering why they never done this song more then twice live.anyone know why.didn’t Al like doing it ? killer fucking tune.

Not sure. Maybe the guest vocalist wasn’t available for the entire tour.

I know Chris hated the vocals and I suspect he wasn’t alone, which might have cut down on anyone wanting to rap it.

This.

what are you tryin’ to say gunner …

i think if Al did any remixes it should of been of the lp of the mind is a terrible thing to taste…

Nah. The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste sounds fine as is. The albums he did remixes for actually benefited from it. The Bush Trilogy sounded better as electronic albums. The originals…were a bit well, boring.

At least one guy really wanted RevCo to play it.

“This is a test! This! Is! A! Teeeeeesssst!!”

It’s not very good, but the reasoning was probably more to the rapper not going on tour with them tahn to the song quality. They actually did it a few times live on the 89/90 tour. At least 3 that I can think of.

That ‘rapper’ sounded like the biggest twit.

A …

TEST

and the lyrics. really? really? REALLY?!

It is an unusual song for Ministry, so I’ll give it that. I might be wrong here, but I think this might be one of the first attempts at fusing rap and metal. It certainly wasn’t common for it’s time.

There were about 3 or 4 versions of lyrics that never got recorded. I believe they were part of that auction a couple years ago - just copies of the lyrics on notebook paper. Every one of them was better than the recorded version though.

Run DMC and Aerosmith did it way before Al attempted this.

From Connelly’s book:

The most awful transgression against good taste was the song “Test” where Bill and Paul had built a powerhouse of a song that steamrolled relentlessly, barrelling out the speakers with sheer assault. All very well until Al found a rapper, immediately ruining a great song, and helping give birth to the concept of heavy metal rap.

I used to have begrudging indifference to “Test” with how classic the rest of the material stands. Time to listen with fresh ears.

:six minutes later:

Nope, still strikes as sloppy and unfocused. The beat is propulsive enough (reminds of Murder Inc) and would have sounded welcome on BS & Q or any other record of the era but it’s not as distinct as the other Mind songs.

Eh, I think Test is OK. And Chris Connelly isn’t always right - he also doesn’t like the title track to Linger Ficken’ Good.

Test rules.

BETTA YA DAAAAMN SITUATION

“You say this and I say THAT. That That That!!!”

Well, it’s no “My World” . . . .

Well, that song is terrible too. Always thought it was stupid.

except for the jazz guitar solo. Good shit.
