MINISTRY – Best of… Show
Uncle Al is back! The industrial legend, which created a completely new style of metal with the record “Psalm 69”, is back again!
After their 25th anniversary farewell shows back in 2008 the band of mastermind Al Jourgensen returns to destroy Wacken once again!
Wacken was this past weekend so this thread is useless unless someone can find a setlist

What the hell are you talking about? Ministry is playing at next year’s festival, hence the ‘2012’ in the subject title.
face palm Wow I didn’t notice.
I now see this was already being discussed in the “Major Announcement Thread”.
It’s a Best of show… I hope it’s just the Bush Trilogy
This show is far enough in the future that there could be a new Ministry album by then.
Well, Al hates playing anything more than three years old. Always has.
So maybe he’s got some new music plans.
Or maybe it’ll be Paint It Black and Thunderstruck and nonsense like that.
I’m sure there will be a tour. Already made my prediction about it in another thread.
I’m betting this is just a one off where some festival promoters offered him a handsome paycheck to do a single gig, and he’ll throw together a rag-tag band made of halfway competent musicians who admire his work and are willing to work for free or next to nothing in order to climb up the rock’n’roll ladder. He’ll play half-assed versions of his most “metal” classics and the audience will either hate it or be too drunk to care.
That’s just my guess… I can’t imagine him re-booting Ministry with new material and trying to tour again and actually making a profit. He’s pissed off half his fanbase already and the ones who did like the Bush trilogy would probably be a little more cynical this time around. What is he going to do, flash video of John Boehner, Eric Cantor and Sarah Palin in the background and rail against the Republican controlled congress?
Whatever he does, if it doesn’t include Paul or at least some other respectable musician it will surely be shit, and regardless it will surely be short lived.

Al did almost die in the past year, and from what he was explaining, I am sure his medical bills are ridiculous. An extensive hospital stay, plus a trip to rehab? The guy probably owes the hospital a hundred g’s even after his insurance pays.
So long story short, I don’t blame the guy for doing this. Just doing one shot gigs like this I would think are fun. He just needs to shut his trap and not overstate things. Play the hits, play them well and get paid. His biggest problem in recent years is that he has over-exposed Ministry. Too much material can be a bad thing. To me what always made Ministry so good in their glory years was the less is more approach. ministry released very little, and what was released was very good. If he brings it back to life, he just needs to be extremely selective about what he does. For example, if he does an EP with say Ogre on a track or two, who wouldn’t be intrigued?

Erie looks like an ogre. Does that count?

According to Al, he had ulcers that were causing internal bleeding to the point that doctors did not think he was going to make it. As a result he stopped drinking, smoking and added a workout routine. He claims to be in the best shape of his life, which he probably is.

I got no issue with the dudes. Met Sin and Josh a few times and they’re really nice fellas and well talented enough. But, yeah, NOT the Revolting Cocks. (I didn’t go to any of the shows, though.)

You hit the nail on the head. Again, it’s hard to argue against a guy paying off his hospital bills. He’d be an idiot to not play “the hits” as doing anything else will limit the number of festival opportunites that float Al’s way.
How good is the salary of a history lecturer at the University of Texas?
