Isn’t that ALWAYS the case?
Retirement. Teaching. Moving to Canada. Quitting drinking. Etc . . . . .
Okay, I found it . . . .
“Maybe we’ll do one big show with Tommy and Sin and the guys who made this band possible for the past few years. That would be a nice tribute to Mikey. But I can’t do a whole tour without him. Ministry was his life almost as much as mine, and I’m afraid it has to die with him. But damn if we didn’t go out with a bang!”

I think we should know better by now to take anything he says at face value. So will there be a tour? The answer is no. But the possibility of that changing is very high.

Exactly. All we can go off of is Al’s words. But those are about as definite as an Etch-a-Sketch.
I believe it because I know he doesn’t like touring. He also got that “bug” on the last tour. As far as using Mikey as a reason not to tour, he’s done plenty without him; Spinctour, Clitour, Fornicatour, and C-U-Latour were all done without him.
I don’t know. That’s typically the smart money wager, but we’ve not even yet seen a Relapse ReMiXXX, so I’m not so sure.
Not an entire Remixxx album, but the Double Tap single was exactly that - album version, two nearly identical dubstep mixes.

Yeah, but they hadn’t reconnected as BFFs at that time. Literally everything Al has done for the last several years has been with Mike.
I am sure a tour will occur, but a mini one. Seeing as how this record will likely sell, oh, a few thousand units I think he’s gotta get some butts in seats.
I would’ve went. Seriously. But then I saw the ticket cost - over 60 bucks. Get the FUCK outta my face with that. And I was gonna bring my metalhead sister too.
I’m sure he hates touring. But he’ll change his mind when he needs the cash, which he will. What he’ll probably end up doing will probably end up exactly like he did last tour like someone else said. A few limited dates and maybe a couple of festivals. Enough to make a payday. He may not want to, but he’ll bite it lip and get it out of the way.
Totally agreed.
I see him doing AT LEAST a few key cities in the US. Certainly not the extensive line-up of festival tours they did on the last one, but just a couple for some easy money.
I’ll go. I always go (I’m kind of assuming an LA stop when I say this). I’ll complain, as always, that the setlist will remain pretty much unchanged as it has for the last 8 years, but I’ll still go and have a blast regardless.
LA, NY and Chicago. I’d be amazed if he didn’t play in Chicago.

I don’t think they did on the last tour.
I don’t think they did on the last tour.
They did. Two nights at the Vic. One night in Denver, LA and NYC.
Ministry was his life almost as much as mine, and I’m afraid it has to die with him.
That’s bullshit! I’m sure Mikey was a great guy and completely vested and all but Barker has more rights to ministry than Mike. Why didn’t Ministry “Die” when barker left?

Because that was by Al’s choice.
Ministry is his meal ticket, and the only thing he probably has to do. I remember, back in 08, how he would be able to do more stuff outside of Ministry, which he never really did. He’s not going to play dead. Plus, it’s all he really knows. So to let Ministry actually end would be very unrealistic for him, I’m sure.
Al’s more Talented than Barker .

As for why Ministry didn’t “die” when Barker left . . . because Al hated (and still hates) Barker and was glad to part ways at the time. In Al’s mind (or “revisionist history” as we may refer to it) Paul was “just a bass player”. So, he was out and another string of replaceable rotating 4-stringers filled that spot for the next 10 years.
Regarding how “Ministry was as much Mikey as Al” . . . obviously that’s open to interpretation, but if we stay in the most recent years . . . . it was MIKEY that encouraged Al to resurrect Ministry after Al had already supposedly retired the band and “Relapse” (as well as Buck Satan, a bunch of the covers albums, and supposedly the new one as well) would not have been possible were it not for Mikey.
It would be foolish to act as if Ministry was just as much Mikey as Al if we take the entire 30+ year career span, but if you isolate the most recent years, yeah, it was just as much (or more) Mikey.
Also, Mikey was the only one of the old-school crew that didn’t ditch Al as a friend despite the challenges and costs of such a relationship, so it was pretty rough for Al to lose the guy. Sin, Aaron, and other hired guns have played off and on for the past 7 years or so, but Mikey is really the only one that can tie in the past and the present along with Al, so there’s a lot of meaning and emotion in that.
^ Yeah, that and the fact that Barker just “left”. Had he died then maybe Al would’ve felt the same way about retiring the band (regardless of how much they may have disliked each other).
Mike Scaccia was without a doubt a major part of recent Ministry. So, it’s understandable. I really doubt this is the end of the band though… unfortunately. Shit should’ve been put to bed years ago.
that is a valid point, however if you take all the good albums, the liner notes always say this - “ministry is: al jourgensen, paul barker”. everyone else was listed as “additional musicians” or “additional personnel”.
only cases (1982-2004) where there are deviations:
1983 WS: Al J. and Stephen George
1986 Twitch - Al alone (!)
1990 IN CASE + 2002 SPHINCTOUR - obviously live albums, so alot of ppl listed as a band members
1999 Dark Side - everyone in the ‘gang’ at that time is listed as part of the band (i think even ty coon)
so yeah Al can say whatever, but i know what’s up XD
as for
because Al hated (and still hates) Barker and was glad to part ways at the time. In Al’s mind (or “revisionist history” as we may refer to it) Paul was “just a bass player”.
well ok, if he was just a bass player, why didn’t Al ditch him after Twitch tour? or at least, after Bill Rieflin left? yknow, to get rid of all Blackouts members for good measure.
at the same time, alot of people pointed out that Al’s interesting quality was to spot a talented guy and sort of attach to him somehow, so again - if paul was just a bass player, why keep him around so long?
i aint a paul fanboy (dont like his solo stuff, even lead into gold apart couple tracks), but after the split Al just acts more and more like George Lucas, trying to revision the old stuff from time to time - be it the interview or a mention of any ex-bandmate or just plain old N-th repackage of NWO or Stigmata remix on another shitty stupid compilation.
