I know Metallica aren’t the MOST POPULAR band on this forum (well derr), however for those few who are interested, the new album has just been given a title ‘Death Magnetic’ and a release date of 9th September.
Was just curious if y’all had any opinions on this new title (I happen to think it’s…ok) and moreso if anyone here still held up hope that it may be a return to the glory days of the late '80s (of which I am still somewhat of a fan).
Still, I may buy the album out of curiousity - I don’t believe it will be as bad as St Anger or that tripe they threw together for the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack.
People who have heard it say it is definitely a return to form of sorts.
Any type of remix of Metallica would SUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!! (unless Amon Tobin did it…i.e check Angel Of Theft which is Tobins Slayer Reign In Blood remix)
Metallica’s aight. “Master of Puppets” is a damned good album. “AJFA”'s pretty nice, as well, and I actually prefer most of the “Load/Reload” material over the majority of their speed/thrash stuff. Didn’t care much for “St. Anger,” but then again, I’m probably not in the minority on that one.
I think I said this on another thread somewhere, but I’d much rather listen to “The Blackest Album 1-4” than actual Metallica anyday.
New title is cheesy. And not the good kind of cheesy.
I might give it a listen. Just for the hell of it.
I was a huge fan before they became famous & up to the black cd. Don’t have much hope for the new cd but they’re trying to capture the puppets feel so we shall see.
The most boring thing about Metallica is people who talk about them and invariably site their “glory days” in the 80’s and speculate about their “return to form”. Just listen to the fucking old record if that’s all you want.

People who talk about Metallica have absolutely nothing to do with the reason Metallica is boring?[:/]
His production on Saul Williams album was great as far as i’m concerned though…well the Hippity Hoppity parts anyway. The beat on “Penny For A Thought” is a beast-zilla!
Metallica are pish and Rubin isn’t going to change that…unless…Rubin hires Melvins to do the album under the Metallica logo.
Well, I’m mildly excited about this new release, if nobody else is.
There is a 30 second promo clip floating around on several sites which seemed promising. Had that ‘epic’ sound to it that has been missing all these years.
