If I lived in Arizona I would wear a gun everywhere I went. I would have multiple guns to accessorize my best outfits. My wife would leave me, but at least I’d have my guns.
The matrix has you Neo.
I’m just baffled, how sorry was the security at this get-together thingy? You would think these super rich folk would spend a few bucks to protect the people and themselves from this sort of thing. Among those killed was a federal judge, aren’t those guys usually targeted by nutjobs
I’m reading that this guy was really liberal. His hs and college friend is saying that he was a pot head and far left politically. Where is all of the Palin connection reports coming from? I don’t watch news on tv.
just because he’s a “pothead” doesn’t mean he’s a lefty. and i fucking HATE that they even mentioned pot. what the fuck does that have to do with anything?! when people get killed, do you hear them report on how they drink some beers? it’s fucking ridiculous. and no, he’s definitely not a lefty. i don’t know where you got that from. i’ve read at least 8 articles and the only thing they mentioned is that he was “anti-government”…and that certainly doesn’t sound like a liberal to me… and if he was, why would he target a democrat? granted, they aren’t very left, but he would have had much “better” right wing targets.

is that seriously your solution?! would you like to see checkpoints everywhere?! heavily armed police with metal detectors and dogs everywhere you go?!
you americans are delusional with your obsession with guns.
and the thing that i hate most is when people try to justify using/owning/carrying guns as a means of protection…oh the irony.

OK, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say you smoke pot.
What does it have to do with anything (and no, I’m not aware of the “pothead” element of the story)? Potentially a lot. First off, if he was high that is a major detail. And yes, we DO hear about it if someone was drunk (or stoned, or tweaking, or whatever) when committing heinous crimes.
Even if he wasn’t high at the time of the crime, it is still noteworthy if he’s a pothead. Why? Because it is unusual and interesting. I’m guessing you’ll agree with me that potheads aren’t the most likely to stock up a bunch of guns and mow down a bunch of people, right? Well, that’s what makes it newsworthy.
Now go take some bong hits or something. You seem a little tense, Brah!

haha, don’t mind if i do
the thing is, uninformed people (the majority) will associate marijuana with this crime. that’s what really bothers me. it’s like those 30’s anti drug videos that say you’ll lose your mind and kill people if you take a drag.
they don’t know if he was high while he did it, and won’t ever know. some people who knew him said he smoked pot… but it doesn’t matter, because smoking marijuana doesn’t make you go out and kill people…unlike alochol and meth (not saying that you’ll go kill someone if you’re drunk, it’s just much more likely).
I’m going to go ahead and file this under “Cliche Pothead Reasoning 101” . . .
Seriously, if I had a dollar for every pothead worried about the bad publicity that pot gets every time someone who was smoking dope commits a crime or does something horrendously stupid . . . well, let’s just say I could buy a lot of pot.
No one (or if there is anyone it is a VERY small number) thinks or argues that pot makes you into a crazed psychopathic monster. But, it is a drug which affects your brain. And different people react differently. Some get tired. Some get hungry. Some get insanely stupid.
It’s not about it making you into a violent demon, but pot (just as drinking, cocaine, too much cough syrup or a myriad of other substances) can affect your decision making and ability to properly control yourself in certain situations.
I’m not saying that is what happened here (it probably is NOT, though I could see a defense attorney arguing otherwise) but potheads are too quick to jump to the defense of their wonderdrug every time it is in danger of being perceived in a negative manner.
You wanna smoke pot? Go ahead. I don’t care. But at least be intelligent enough to admit that there are sometimes downsides to being high.

do you smoke pot? obviously potheads are going to be concerned about the image. why wouldn’t they? we get arrested and harrased because of the negative perceptions people have of marijuana. so it IS a pretty big deal.
lol, did i ever say there wasn’t a downside to smoking pot? don’t put words in my month. of course there are negatives, but that has nothing to do with the situation at hand.
No I do not smoke pot. But I used to. And I’ve done some pretty retarded stuff while high. I’m not blaming the drug (and yes, it is a drug, despite it being natural and God-grown and whatever else the hippies try to use as justification to try and classify it as something else).
But I do drink. And I don’t care to waste my time defending booze because I know and accept that it’s dangerous (especially if abused or used in excess).
I don’t care if people are concerned over the “image” of pot but it just seems that these people are more interested in babbling off untrue blanket generalizations than actually discussing the topic with any sort of logic or reasoning. Hence, their fear of the public knowing when pot was involved (whether actually connected to a case or just incidentally) in a news-worthy incident seems so hypocritical.
If pro-pot people are so interested in informing and educating then why do they try so hard to get information suppressed or ignored?

Well, you may not have said it in so many words, but you implied that if this kid was high it had nothing to do with the case . . . and I would strongly disagree.
You’re not making a whole lot of sense.
I dunno. Since 9/11, over the years I have held a firm belief that anything can happen, anytime anywhere, and there’s not a god damn thing we can do about it. Sure, there’s lots of measures that can be taken to ensure a lot of these catastrophes do not occur, but then down the line someone breaks a link in the chain and an attempted murder occurs.
It’s just how it is.
My wishes go out to the friends and families of the victim, as well as the shooter - mental illness is nothing to take lightly, and I hope both of them get the most worthwhile treatment they can.
and the thing that i hate most is when people try to justify using/owning/carrying guns as a means of protection…oh the irony.
Do you even know what irony means? Okay, maybe it is ironic if you bought a gun to protect your home and it misfired and killed you, but your outrage at people that want protection doesn’t make sense.
If there are a bunch of people with weapons and you do NOT have a weapon, who would be at a disadvantage? My wife is against guns, and also we live in a pretty dead suburban area. But if I lived in a shady part of the city (no, this has nothing to do with what color my neighbors may be) and was allowed to, I could see myself owning a gun to have as a possible defense against violent deviants.
Why do you think guys that drive armored cars have guns? It’s not because they want to shoot people. It’s to reduce the chance that they’ll get robbed. And if someone tries to rob them, they at least have something that they can attempt to defend themselves with. It’s no guarantee, but I can assure you there would be a lot more heists if these guys did not have weapons. Why? Because other guys DO have weapons.

Heck no! I’m totally against invasion of privacy! But in certain situations I’m willing to sacrifice a little privacy if it prevents a trigger happy freak-o from going on a rampage. For example, lets say I’m going to the Super Bowl I’d be willing to go through metal detectors and a pat down if it saves me &the lives of my fellow citizens.
Everyone hates security . . . until they or someone they know gets shot or blown up. Then they are all outraged that there wasn’t proper security in place.

the chances of you being able to get to your gun, if someone breaks in, are nil. lotta good your gun does if someone comes up behind you. lotta good a gun woulda done Gifford had she had one. so what if others had guns she still woulda been shot.
the irony in “guns for protection” is that no one seems to be safe with them around.

Obviously there are many situations where a gun does you no good. But, there’s other situations where it COULD protect you and your family. I’m not saying it always will work out as one would hope, but, given proper training and so forth, there are cases where people have used guns to effectively protect themselves or others.
I think people in Arizona have to over-compensate. Have you seen their flag? It’s the gayest flag ever! Seriously, look at this thing? Who made it? Some friggin’ 10 year old who thought Wonder Woman was so cool that the flag should be modeled after her crotch?
This flag is retarded. My state, California, has a kickass flag. It’s a friggin’ Grizzly Bear! This is the first I’ve really known of the Arizona flag and they are our neighbors. I bet no one even flies this joke.

Some downsides? Some? I can think of more than some.
Take it from me - a 37 year old veteran scenster. Don’t touch the stuff. It can be fuckin’ downright dangerous. Almost lost my sanity one evening after smoking a joint. And I was never a heavy user.

liberals don’t shoot dems (or anybody for that matter) most of the crap he’s noted for writing/saying is the current tea party speak.

Just leave it alone.[/reply]
I haven’t touched the stuff for about 13 years, but I’ve had similar experiences in the past. Hallucinations, full mental freakouts, loss of feeling in my limbs that lasted for 5 days, paranoia, you name it.
And, while extreme reactions are perhaps not the norm, even just a minimum amount of research on the drug will show that paranoia is a COMMON effect of the drug (especially with continued use). Paranoia is also a very common trait of these psychopaths that commit acts of violence against the public or government.
So, yeah, going back to Lord of Lard’s original objection and statement where he felt the kid being a pothead was irrellevant – that’s wrong. It’s completely relevant. Not necessarily causal or directly connected, but definitely relevant.
