Why does he have to unnecessarily copy the intro to The Holy Mountain in the “Born Villain” video? I mean, I know Jodorowsky is an influence, but there’s a difference between a carbon-copy and an homage (which he did in “The Dope Show”).

Ha ha ha!! Grmpy likes Marilyn Manson!!!

Oh…sometimes I kill myself!!

It’s ok though Grmpy…I’m just teasing.

You may want to insert a joke here and there about how I really get into early Prince and Madonna.

Early Prince (circa 1980 - 1987) and Madonna (circa 1983 - 1992) are great!!

I thought you already knew I dug on manson? Meh I like prince and madonna too. Although prince more than madonna.

He he same here! Madonna > Manson.

The first two Prince records were the best thing he ever did though

He he same here! Madonna > Manson.

Montana > Manson

Manson=safe as milk

Just got my copy of Born Villain today. Only heard about the first minute of the first track but so far I wasn’t completely dissatisfied. Intro kinda reminded me of dope hat. That’s a good thing.

Ok well get back to us when you’ve heard the whole thing.

For me it fell far short of what he’d need to make a “comeback” as he was calling it, but it was definitely a step in the right direction.

I think the main thing honestly with the new stuff is it is missing the meticulous layers of sound and attention to detail that the best albums had.

Also the vocals are too high in the mix now IMO compared to ‘Antichrist Superstar’ where they felt like an instrument.

New music video for the song “Hey Cruel World”…
Probably my favorite single thing to come from this album:

He once said he wanted to grow up and a be a big rock n roll star so no one fucks with him. Looks like being a rock star has run it’s course. The drinking is really catching up with him now. This is gonna sound kinda silly, but I’m actually having the thought of getting Trent Reznor’s email and telling him to reach out to Manson. The man needs fucking help.

Trent is open to the idea of working with him, but Manson hasn’t grown up yet. He has “rock star” syndrome and hasn’t accepted the fact that he isn’t 16 anymore.

His best albums were under Trent’s direction. Mechanical Albums was also good. Holy Wood felt like rehashed material and outtakes from the albums before it. Everything after it is half-baked and dull, with some good songs here and there, but nothing to write home about.

I finally have given this a few listens now.

I think it’s musically a lot more interesting than the last two albums (especially over the the high end of low, which had about 3 musical ideas, none of them good). So, a step in the right direction there. I like the little Bowie nods here and there. And I actually like the cover at the end… I didn’t want to like it (he’s done WAY too many of those, and they are mostly pretty lazy), but it’s actually pretty fun.

The album also sounds pretty good. It’s crisp.

But the big thing that drags it down is the lyrics. He needs an editor to tell him when the quality is low and to work harder.

He’s still using the same couple of tired metaphors that he’s used for the past three albums.

And he does way too much of the repeat-one-line-over-and-over move… you can tell he’s come up with a line that he thinks is really clever and funny… so why not sing it 8 or 9 times? Right?
The problem is that they are not clever, or funny. And even if they were, nothing spoils a good line like overuse.

And someone needs to tell him how to pronounce the English language. It’s “candidates” not “candidents.” (Just like it’s “et cetera” not “eksetra.”) It makes him sound like an idiot.

And my final gripe… can we just agree that spoken word passages in songs are over? Or, that they should be? Please?

He’s toying around with wordplay since 03. So it was probably intentionally. Doesn’t mean its witty though. Musically, I’d say its a great album. But the lyrics and vocals are just terrible. I can only imagine how much of a trainwreck the next album will turn out since Vrenna jumped ship.

He collapsed onstage last night after vomiting, then carted off by the EMT’s. I will never understand anyone going out sloppy drunk and then performing, you either can handle it (Jim Morrison) or you can’t (Al J).

Ah damn! Video removed by user!

As for why people perform drunk, it’s alcoholism and rockstardom (are those things even different? lol)

I don’t think anyone can really “handle” it. Some better than others. In his defense, I’m sure Jourgensen did his fair share and pulled it off ok. And I know Morrison had times where he was noticeably wasted and the concerts were fucked up.

Manson’s never collapsed before like that, to my knowledge. He tends to be really out of tune when drunk though, so it’s always obvious when he’s performing drunk…

Alice Cooper says that during his wild days the only time he DIDN’T drink was while performing, because there was no way he could get through a show that way (although he did carry around a whiskey bottle full of Coke to make it look like he was boozing).
