It is hard to comprehend how a Boeing 777 jetliner could vanish into thin air. I am sure many of you have seen the coverage on TV and on the internet. The plane has been missing now for 11 days with very few clues as to what happened.
I have been “hoping” the plane was hijacked, because it provides a slim hope that the passengers and crew might still be alive somewhere.
Tragic. Bizarre. Unsettling. I hope there are answers one day.
My wife is completely riveted to this story and checks online hourly for new updates and information. It’s a weird case, for sure. At first I thought the chatter about terrorism was pretty weak, as the plane never hit any targets or confirmed a new destination. Also, there’s been (that we know of) no one noting credit for the “terrorism” or evidence thereof.
At first I just kind of dismissed it as an air accident, but I’m open to anything now. It is a strange mystery to say the least.
At a minimum, Civil Aviation needs to consider having something like an “Amber Alert” so that if a commercial plane goes off the grid, neighboring countries and territories are immediately alerted.
I wonder if somebody important was on the plane and was targeted. Read an article that said one of the pilots might have wanted to commit suicide and did so with the plane.
What i dont get is why they are trying to track the plane. Im sure every single one of those people had cell phones and or ipads. Start tracking their phones that way it gives a little hope if they didnt crash in the ocean
I think it’s fascinating and I’ve been trying to follow it closely. There’s a forum called “Flyertalk” that many commercial pilots visit and it’s been really interesting to hear their side. Among the theories…
It was a 911 style hijacking that was twarted by the pilots/crew. If so, the plane is likely at the bottom of the Indian Ocean.
It was an attempted heist of precious cargo, say gold bullion. This seems less likely although some facts point to this…namely that 50 seats were reported to be blocked on this flight which indicates a heavy cargo.
The plane, for whatever reason, ended up over Chinese airspace and was shot down by the Chinese.

There are no communications towers over the ocean. If the plane had wi-fi…then it likely was shut off. This is why most think that the plane ditched in the Indian Ocean.

– I’ve heard this too. Definitely plausible. If the plane did indeed continue to fly for 7.5 hours after takeoff, this would have been horrific.

– This would support the theory that the plane landed somewhere remote and was on the ground when the last satellite ping occurred. Question is - where is the plane and passengers at this point?

– Very possible and troubling. If neighboring countries weren’t promptly notified of the missing airplane, they could have seen the unidentified plane on radar and thought it was hostile.
Pilot/copilot suicide.
– This theory seems to be getting a fair amount of consideration. The prevailing question is around why fly the airplane for 7.5 hours before crashing? Unless the intent was to leave absolutely no trace. If true, I imagine a lot of questions would be raised about pilot screening (both physical and psychological).

Right, but if the plane landed somewhere they would likely be able to track them where they landed
How do they know the plane continued to fly for 7.5 hours if they were under the radar? Thought the news just said they had the fuel to possibly continue to fly for another 7.5 hours, not that they actually did.

Apparently, a satellite picked up a “ping” or handshake from the airplane several times with the last one occurring at 8:11am Malaysia Time - about 7.5 hours after the plane took off.

This seems the most plausible of the theories I’ve seen discussed/ posted.
Whenever something like this happens, though, I’m always scratching my head that the planes don’t (to my knowledge) have a little panic alarm button like banks have. Something (it can just be disguised as any other of the 5 billion buttons) that the pilot, once a hijacking is known, can just flip or push to indicate to ground control that the plane is now a possible deadly weapon.
I also always wonder why, in this day and age, that the plane doesn’t have a mode where you could push a panic button or something that alerts ground control and would just automatically put the plane on either remote control or just take over a pre-programmed recovery route.
I was just flipping channels waiting for dinner to get done, watching one of the various talking head shows on FOX Some security muckity muck of some sort or another posited that it possible the plane was hijacked - possibly by it’s own pilots , flown at a low altitude somewhere and is now being outfitted with explosives as a massive flying bomb full of passengers.
sounds like something stupid and scary that they would run on fox.
“We can’t confirm any of this but we’re gonna go ahead and report it anyway to terrify the fuck out of you all.”

Or the History Channel . . . though the plane was probably jacked by Masons who are taking it to the Mayans who will embed Alien technology into it so that Bigfoot can fly around making crop circles telling the story of Jesus’ younger brother Steve who is a CIA operative living in an underground missile silo . . . .
After 370 shut down the transponder, headed west off-course, climbed then dove until it was only 5000 ft over the water, peninsula, Straight of Malacca and then Indonesia and picked up altitude until it was able to follow another plane and hide in that plane’s ‘electronic shadow’ until they landed someplace together…I guess.
It would explain a lot like why no military radar thought anything weird was going on. But what a precise rendevous it would have to be.
