how was it?
The Cult absolutely slayedā¦Iāve seen them at least 20 times and this was one of the bestā¦Ian sounded excellent and was in full on shamanistic modeā¦ apparently they were down here on vacation and decided to do 3 Florida shows to coincide with itā¦they were refreshed and were just ferociousā¦it was great to see them so full of vigorā¦a killer setlistā¦2 back to back songs from Dreamtime which I definitely wasnāt expectingā¦it was a great nightā¦one of those nights where everything just comes together ā¦
Awayās drumming was fucking booming by the wayā¦that dude is awesomeā¦he and Newstead make a great rhythm sectionā¦and Away was wearing a Van Der Graf Generator shirtā¦you donāt see that every dayā¦
Saw The Cure last night. Itās been almost 20 years since last time they were here. I can say they were totally worth the wait.
The weather stunk, it was outdoors. It was something like 50 degrees and rain in the morning. Fortunately, it warmed up a bit by showtime and the rain stopped. We tailgated in the parking lot for a while getting ready before the show.
We were in the pavilion so we werenāt on a wet lawn on the hill. If the weather is nice, the hill is really good. The weather wasnāt nice. The opener was The Twilight Sad. I had never heard of them. They were decent and worth watching. Kinda of a Cure light.
The Cure were outstanding. I mean absolutely outstanding. In case you didnāt quite catch that, absolutely fucking outstanding. The band was tight, played somewhere around 30 songs from their entire catalog. The only thing I would have changed was subbing A Play For Today for Shake Dog Shake which they have done on this tour. The new songs were great live. They play 2.5 hours plus a night. I couldnāt believe how well Bob sounded and have no idea how he can do that night after night. He looked good to. If you have tickets and havenāt seen the show yet, you are in for a treat. I had high expectations and was totally blown away. If this was the last time I get to see The Cure, I can only saw bravo!
This is great to hearā¦I saw The Cure on their last tour before this one and they were excellentā¦canāt wait for the gig down hereā¦
Iām flying out to Austin on Fri to the Oblivion Access festā¦mostly going for Godflesh and Final/ Tim Heckerā¦should be a fun tripā¦although I saw the high temps are 105ā¦Iām used to hot weather here in Miami but god damn!!!
I caught The Cure in Cleveland this past Sunday.
Absolutely phenomenal, they sounded great and had a fantastic set.
We got hit with downpours for several hours, and even an emergency due to lightning (they sent everyone back to their cars for roughly a half hour).
I was in the lawn section, so it was a very wet night. It didnāt rain during The Cureās set, so thereās that. I missed the opening act due the many trips back to the car.
The new songs were great, Iām looking forward to the new album.
Over here in Austin,Tx for this Oblivion Access Fest and about to go see Drew McDowall ,who was in Psychic TV and Coil, do a setā¦and then a Faust set ,they are celebrating their 50th yearā¦then a set from Jarboe who was in Swans and has done a ton of other solo and collabsā¦then over to see Justin Broadrick do his JK Flesh setā¦
Tomorrow is Final and Tim Hecker and Yob and Godflesh to cap off the weekendā¦lots of great musicā¦this was a great, well run festā¦will most likely be back next yearā¦
Godflesh just ripped my nuts off and fed them to meā¦ absolutely pulverizing setā¦heavy as king Kong ballsā¦epic shit
I checked for Godflesh tour dates. Looks Iām in for a pummeling in September back at the El Club.
Out of curiosity how were Drew and Faust? I didnāt know Faust was still around and didnāt know Drew had a solo career so am super curious
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT miss Godflesh, prologueā¦
Both were fantastic, greenā¦when I get home this eve Iāll go in to more detailā¦but Godflesh stole the festivalā¦
I found my old Corcorans cleaning out my music room. Iām fucking ready for a thorough pummeling. Iām not sure I can coerce my buddy who went last time. His sister and family live just down the street from the El and made parking super convenient and easy. When we left the El the last time Godflesh was in town in 2018(???) he looked more than a little shell shocked.
Drew did a cool set from the boards processing lots of droney yet shimmering soundsā¦the sounds like of oscillated between terrifying and sereneā¦I enjoyed his brief set quite a bitā¦
Faust were fucking phenomenalā¦they billed it as a 50the anniversary celebrationā¦I wouldnāt even know how to describe this gigā¦everything from krautrock, music concrete, electronics, war chants and dark beats ā¦it was a mish mash of stuffā¦very eclectic setā¦if you just listened and knew nothing of the band you wouldāve thought it was musicians in their 20s or 30s,not guys in their early to mid 70sā¦
Saw so much other shit at this fest ā¦it was great all around
Damn, sounds amazing! I saw an FB post by David J praising the Faust show. Wish Iād been there!
Saw Kings X last night in Ashevilleā¦they were fucking fantasticā¦
Finally Melvins played in my town and I didnāt miss it. What a great show, they were awesome and heavy and the crowd was great too. I went with some friends and had a great time.
Melvinās haha yepā¦Iāve seen them a number of times and they always deliver the goodsā¦
As much as I love the Melvins, I gotta say to anyone going to see them live that they are only good 99% of the time ā and when theyāre bad, theyāre awful. And I donāt mean ābadā as in āthey had an off night,ā but ābadā as in Buzz turned his guitar on, put it next to the speaker, and bathed in the feedback and strobe lights for 45 minutes without yielding. If ya donāt believe me, give āColossus of Destinyā a try.
(To their credit, I donāt know if those Melvins shows I was yapping about are scheduled and announced ā āItās NOISE NIGHT, yee-haw!ā ā or if they just turn up. Would be kind of a kick in the tits if they were random, no?)
Iāve fortunately never experienced that and Iāve seen them probably 7 or 8 times from the 90s onā¦sounds torturousā¦
