Light 2010

Heh, disagree. UAIOE is my fave. Definitely. It’s probably my favorite reggae album, too.

I can’t even begin to tell you how nuts that comment is.

It’s just a genre of music I don’t have too much interest in.

My seventy-eight year old grandma, though? LOVES IT.

Didn’t see this posted yet and don’t want to start too many KMFDM threads around here, so:

This is the kind of frustrating song these guys EXCEL at. I mean, there’s so many cool parts contrasted by annoying elements like Lucia, who really needs to tone it down. Yeah, it’s an energetic song, but her voice is ill-suited for it and I wish Sascha would have the good graces to recognize when it doesn’t work with otherwise good music.

That would require pissing off his wife. I don’t see that happening. Sascha’s getting older and probably rather take a backseat being the frontman and focus more on the actual production.

That’s fine. The production on this song is really good - sounds denser than anything from the last several albums, actually. I just can’t reiterate enough how much Lucia takes away from the proceedings. If it’s true the upcoming effort is going to have real guests and won’t be led by her voice on most of the songs than we’re in for a treat.

Under the impression that the guests are mostly instrumental.

Geez, I actually dig the music. Pity about the vocals.

Lucia is all over Tohuvabohu its almost unbearable.

And a good chunk of Blitz.

IMO Brimborium, the remix album of Tohuvabohu is far better.

Don’t like this new track. Generally, I like most of what KMFDM has put out, but they’ve got waaaay too much stuff that is “overlapping”. Much of it can be compressed into fewer albums and still be good without getting annoying. I can’t even tell apart most of the stuff from the Naive - Adios era. I do like Adios (acidy bliss and DIY, what an epic track!) and Angst. Anything else, it sounds the same.

I’m down with Lucia. But having her on more than a single is irritating, yes.

It’s funny reading you guys talk about KMFDM, because they have such a bloated discography and all of their albums sound the same (from an outsider perspective) and they all have really shitty titles. And you guys talk about them in such detail.

Dont knock 'em till you try 'em sunny boy.

But I disagree. A few albums from the mid 90’s sound kinda similar (hard rock sound) but not even really. Everything else is almost strictly electronic. The lyrics/vocals haven’t changed through the years though.

Albums aren’t that similar pre-2003. Even if it’s just slight differences. Someone could easily see that assumption from the outside looking in. Most stuff these days sound pretty similar though. The guitar playing doesn’t exactly vary with personality like Guenter and Esch did. Pretty repetitive sounding now. Sascha’s always on the ball though. Lucia gets pretty annoying from time to time. I didn’t mind her so much on MDFMK and Attak though.

I know I am in the minority here, but WWIII is the best post Nihil KMFDM disc IMO.
Since Sacha’s marriage to Lucia, the band has treaded in mediocrity. There are always a few decent tracks, but nothing inspires me anymore from KMFDM.
I found Strut to be the most intersting tune from Blitz, and it was no coincidence that is had one of the Angst Girls singing it instead of Lucia.

Naive - Adios is my favorite period and pretty much the only KMFDM is listen to anymore, though listening to them much at all isn’t that often. I thought SYMBOLS what the most dynamic album of their discography. It’s a shame Lucia is such a weight to KMFDM because I really liked Drill after seeing them open for Sister Machine Gun and Chemlab.

My gripe about Lucia is that she tries to be “tough” and “aggressive” when I really don’t believe it. Her voice is pretty generic too. I’d take Mona Mur or Dorona Alberti any day.

WWIII was the last album of theirs that sounded like a focused statement. Every effort since has been a disingenuous collection of songs that feels as though too much energy’s been placed into appeasing fans from different eras. At least WWIII, as timestamped as it might be, has a linear sound to it that keeps it consistent.

I can kind of agree with that. WWIII is very cohesive. But that album wore out it’s welcome very quickly, most of it anyway. Can’t even get myself to really sit through the entire thing again, only a few songs (mostly the raymond ones).

I think I’m with all of you who are saying good things about WWIII. That was the first album I ever heard from them after I saw them during that tour which is what also got me into PIG(I briefly met Raymond after the show and Lucia sang my friend happy bday). WWIII holds a special place in my heart even though I can only really listen to Raymond’s trax more than the rest of the album. After that it was Nihil, Opium, Attak, 84-86 ,WDYKD, Symbols and most recently Money. I heard a couple from Hau Ruck that were tolerable but the clips from the one after it were an instant turnoff and the front cover didn’t help either. Easily the worst art Brute ever did. I still wanna check out Blitz bc of Skold’s involvement but from what everyone is saying on here it sounds like KMFDM needs to shake things up.

As for female vox I’d prefer Abby Travis over Lucia
