I actually thought of Johnny Depp AND Christian Bale too, so I won’t mock those choices. I really am not that familiar with Christian Bale, but just remember how he lost all that weight for a roll and kinda pictured him being versatile with playing younger Lemmy up through deathbed Lemmy.
And I don’t think Johnny Depp would be a bad choice if he could put his ego in check and just clear his head. Visually, he’d be okay, but I imagine him just doing a weird cartoon/ caricature of Lemmy that would send me into a frenzy. But I really do think he has POTENTIAL. That said, I’m not sure how much he was into Motorhead/ Lemmy. If he was a fan, I could see him doing it and at least TRYING to do it right.
But I kind of think in this case, he’s a $40 Million actor being considered for a $400,000.00 part.
I’m going to be a pissy old bitch about this project anyway, and at least Depp might make it INTERESTING, so . . . yeah, I’d give him my endorsement. I think it would take some other heroes calling him out to push him into it and to make it happen. If Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop TOLD him to do it his street cred would be challenged and he’d jump onto it and pretend it was his dream since childhood.
We’ll see.
That Crudup bid is a good one too! I was trying to picture dudes with mustaches and I was actually picturing something like him (perhaps even him exactly).
Perhaps Viggo Mortensen could pull it off. I’m not sure.
Holy shit (pun not originally intended, but spotlighted for a proper rimshot).
I’m gonna have to look this up.
If you’re not just fuckin’ with me, I really don’t know how this flew under my radar, haha.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! So after some scouring the Internet (okay, 10 seconds of Google) I think I’ve solved this mystery. The HARD TIMES did a joke about it last year, and I guess it got passed around and retold a million times and the rumor mills lit up properly. Well played, Hard Times!
Y’all have no idea how much I wanted this movie to actually be a reality, hahahaha!
Christian Bale is not playing GG, but he would make a good Lemmy. Johnny Depp has already kind of blown his rock star load with his Keith Richards impression in those Pirate movies.
They might not have been intentionally fuckin’ with ya. Usually what happens is these rumors get passed around a million times and everyone that hears it thinks they got the big scoop so they want to share . . . . but the original sources are almost never cross-checked. And with shit ass sites like “Blabbermouth” and “Loudwire” who never actually create content but only share what a guy heard another guy tell about a headline that someone else read . . . yeah, it’s no wonder people believe everything . . . or nothing.
So if you could only pick one would you want a GG biopic or a Lenmy one? I respect Lenmy way more as a musician, songwriter and person but gotta admit the salacious craving side of me would want the GG one…not that Lenmy was a saint but GG was pure depravity…at least in his public persona…
THANKS!!! I was thinking of Depp’s Pirates schtick and figuring he’d just sleepwalk using the same character, but I’d totally forgot that it was a hot take on Keith Richards to begin with, hahhahaha!!! So, yeah, I’m still handling Depp like Plutonium, but I do think he has it in him if the right director can smack him around like a bitch and make him come at it proper.
My vote would be for GG too.
I fucking LOVE Lemmy. I worship him as an artist and a person.
And there are some great stories there, but in all honesty, they’d really kinda have to pick and choose to create a linear narrative for a movie. His autobiography was great for fans, but I don’t know if anyone outside the rock and roll circle of inner nerddom really cares for it.
GG on the other hand, who I’ve been long obsessed with, has interest for everyone no matter what. You do not have to know about his life, art, or music to be interested in his story.
The other reason that the GG story would interest me as a film piece is that (although the “All In The Family” doc finally touched this a bit 2 years ago) even those people that do know about GG always focus on the clickbait-style bulletpoints of his most outrageous and exaggerated incidents . . . “Oh, the guy that eats poop and rapes people???”
I’ve always been way more fascinated by the HUMAN side of GG. And it makes the wacky shit that much crazier, actually. If someone with some actual creativity and heart tackled the project and thought about presenting GG as a complex human character, it would be really fucking cool. But, hedging bets . . . .even if it’s just a retarded slapstick exploitation piece, it’ll still be fun, hahhaha.
Not sure how he looks today, but since someone mentioned Ed Norton… I think he could actually pull this one off. Bale is solid too.
I might even let some hotshot new kid give it a go, hahaha. Zac Efron did alright playing Ted Bundy. Why not the Geege? HAHAHA!
The chance of a filmmaker showing the human side of GG is probably slim and none…its what I would prefer but it is highly doubtful such an endeavor would be handled with that care…probably be pure exploitation which like you I would still lap up…
