That Toronto date, at least, has been known for a while. I’m still not sure if I’ll go, I live in Ottawa and I’ve already seen Ministry in 2018. Probably if it was confirmed that the setlist is completely different (not necessarily all oldschool Ministry, just different).

Kinda funny that this Loudwire article was posted by Jon Wiederhorn, who co-wrote Al’s autobiography, yet he clearly has no insider info on what he’s reporting here (“the majority of concerts will probably feature the band’s more recent material”).

Was sort of hoping for more LORAH tracks. The 3 cuts are the same ones that have been in regular rotation for years.

He’s joking.

Lol, we’ll see…

There is no “30th Anniversary Tour”.
That was just flash for the headline and TWO separate items: The tour and the 30th anniversary of LORAH.

It even starts with introducing the news to Jourgensen who didn’t even know.

So, yeah, MAYBE we’ll get a “Missing” or “Deity” and MAYBE we’ll even get the hail-Mary of a “Stigmata” but it won’t have anything to do with this so-called anniversary.

It’s hard enough following all the bullshit claims and promises Al makes himself that won’t come through. I certainly don’t have any room in my life to hold him accountable for dumb shit that lazy writers try to imply.

Earlier in the year, I read an interview with Bell stating Ministry is hoping to do a show on Halloween, it doesn’t look like that worked out.

Don’t think they’ll ever do stuff like the title track of LORAH live anymore, and the reason is very evident on ‘Live Necronomicon’ - basically everyhing except the drums and vocals are programmed. That’s why you [the listener] start to wonder what suddenly happens to the bass on said track on that album - There’s actually only Rieflin playing and Al singing, and the rest is just playback/programmed/samples - leaving the majority of the band with their hands in their pockets. They could of course have reworked the songs to fit actual instruments instead, but I really don’t see that happening - easier to keep playing those same old tracks from LORAH that featured an actual band, like Stigmata, The Missing and Deity.

^^Agree with most of this. Certainly, Bechdel could play some synth along with the track. Sin and Caesar could take a break or just sieg heil along with the song like Jello did. Have Tony burn an America flag like Joe Kelly did–that would certainly rile up all the fans still mad about “AntiFa”.

I remember the first time I saw KMFDM in '92, they just played guitar over all their backing tracks and I didn’t care for that direction either.

Still, I agree that they’ll never play anything from that album other than the 3 tracks mentioned. And I will be surprised if they even do more than one of those on this upcoming tour. Notice the deliberate use of the word “likely”.

I’ve heard “Beers, Steers & Queers” done by the fake Revolting Cocks in 2006 where it basically was just a live drummer not sounding as loud and menacing as the programming/drum machine/heavily effected drummer on the recording. A lot of the band members were standing on stage not playing an instrument and rocking out to it which looked silly because it all sounded rather thin and low. Compared to RevCo in 2017, sounded exactly like the recording besides Chris Connelly on vocals. It crushed.

At Retrospective the band threw out cowboy hats. I still have mine.

Me too.

Ha. With that setlist I wonder what the ticket sales would be like, or what the response would be from the current fan base.

I remember the first time I saw KMFDM in '92, they just played guitar over all their backing tracks and I didn’t care for that direction either.

That’s basically what was going on when I saw them a year or two ago. Guitarist + drummer + Sascha and Lucia sharing vocals. Was disappointing and the stage just felt too big and empty, even in the cramped club, especially since Sascha spent most of it off to the side whenever he wasn’t singing (which wasn’t often - it was a Lucia-heavy setlist made up entirely of stuff from Tohuvabohu onwards, plus an obligatory “Light” and I think maybe “Drug Against War”). As much as I’d love to hear Ministry pull out some of the more synth-based stuff, I wouldn’t want the show to end up looking like that. John is great but it’s a slippery slope into becoming the Bechdel Show if too much of it ends up falling on him, and I can’t see Al caring enough to rework the songs into something more live-friendly.

That’s a big reason why I haven’t seen KMFDM in a long time…sad.

I’m glad when I saw them they had a full band and even had Bill Reiflin playing bass…that was better than when I saw them in the early 90s…

This thread is further proof that a Ministry concert today is not worth my time and energy…I am regrettably content going on YouTube to begrudgingly observe tedious footage of their latest performances of NWO, Thieves, So What, Just One Fix…songs that once had an esoteric command but now just the fodder of trite iconoclastic branding.

I am grateful to have seen Uncle Al when he had Barker, Bill Rieflin, Jeff Ward & Nivek Ogre as his touring band in support of LORAH in winter of 1988…a cherished memory that made the “Great Things I’ve done so now I can Die” LIST.

Al is just too burnt-out to reTrain himself to perform any songs outside of what he’s spewed out in the last 15+ years so going to see Ministry now would just be a terribly sad & tragic mistake.

Choose wisely…do not waste ur money on a poor excuse of a show that features 2 lame guitarists, one more “metal” cliché than the other…a bassist who should be collecting dust in the back of a “day laborer truck” (that’s right—I fucking said that [;)] )

Only good thing about this tour is the drummer, Derek Abrams…this guy is the best thing to happen to Ministry since Bill Rielflin graced us with his percussive prowess once upon a time. [pirate]
