Personally I’ve never, ever in my life understood the whole KMFDM craze.
Although I admittedly love the material that was on 84-86 because it’s so…well…not KMFDM. It’s cool as hell, actually.

Kinda, sorta.
I like 'em, but more so when they’re weird as hell and don’t make any damn sense, or are goofy without being parodic(???). (Copyright that word, man. Hahah.)
I really like Opium and 84-86, and hell, everything from ‘84 to, oh, I dunno, UAIOE, because it’s clearly a bunch of German guys that like Krautrock and Frank Zappa, somehow rigged up a sampler into the mix, and then got REALLY into dub reggae. It’s fuckin’ bizarre, yet still throws out a great hook once in a while.
Money and Naive are literally quintissential Wax Trax! industrial. Then they got into guitars and self-referential, overtly political lyrics and as Sascha got more serious about the band, the cool, goofy weirdness and all the humor got sucked out and the result is the past decade of “Chuggachuggachuggachugga - BIG FAT BASS LINE - Lucia’s titties - blip-blop - KMFDM SUCKS BUT WILL NEVER STOP.”
I’m bummed about that last part the most. Sascha can write the fuck out of a hook and I really like his production, but the actual music gets boring. Aside from “Day of Light,” “Professional Killer,” and once in a blue moon, “Looking for Strange,” KMFDM hasn’t really done anything that’s fucked me up in a positive way since Adios.
That said, I’d definitely go see a show provided I had the time off and the funds. It’d be a blast.
KMFDM fans are like Juggalos with cool shirts. [cool]
KMFDM are a funny old band… To be honest I don’t really care much about Watts or Esch or whatever… large parts of their output I find rather boring, but damn when they get it right they really can sound good. Certainly their recent problem has been in relying too much on the ‘Metal’ side of things (not quite to Jourgensen levels, but bad enough).
I really liked WTF?! though, and I caught them live last year it was great. Had to miss half the show, so hopefully they’ll back in the UK this year and I’ll get to see the whole thing.
