Killing Joke - European Super State

WTF?!?

This is awful.

What does everyone else think?

I like it. sorta old school.

I’l listen to that when i get home from work…

Was not overly impressed with In Exelcis EP. I liked 2 out of the 5 songs on it.

The last 4 killing joke albums have been stunning. Really hope this one holds up against them.

From The Quietus:

“Volatility intact, the record is now with us. However, anyone expecting a re-run of any of the first three albums (1980’s Killing Joke, 1981’s What’s THIS For…? and 1982’s Revelations) is in for a disappointment as, once again, the band have moved on to wherever their unpredictable muse leads. The 2010 version has the sludgy sonic quality of their previous release Hosannas From The Basements of Hell (2006), much of the same metal-influenced ferocity of the digitally honed KJ2003, while also frequently possessing the same epic melodic grandeur of 1986’s Brighter Than A Thousand Suns. The avalanche of tribal tom-tom patterns and thrumming dub bass that characterized their initial incarnation is, for the most part, nowhere to be found. But Killing Joke’s strength is that however they sound, they still sound like Killing Joke, and if 21st century audiences aren’t going to get a new update of ‘Requiem’ or ‘Empire Song’ then they’ll get something equally potent in a different way.”

I like it. sorta old school.

Old school?

Sounds like generic trance techno with a typical Jaz Coleman lesson in pseudo socio-political gobbledygook thrown in for good measure.

How this even Killing Joke exactly? Well maybe the pretentious ‘let’s make an epic political statement’ lyrics are Killing Joke.

I thought these guys were innovators and leaders - they’re fucking stuck in 1992.

Everything they do these days is musically SO dull and derivative.

Has anybody heard the new Killing Joke ep ‘In Excelsis’??

It’s actually really good.

Really good.

Colour me amazed.

Peligro seems to have changed his tune from this post a little while back? hahaha

I listened to a small snippet of the song and thought it was fine. I’ll wait for the album to drop before I make a comment about the music.

I thought the EP was great and I know I’m going to be digging the upcoming album…and I DEFINATELY know I’m going to be digging the upcoming concert!!!

KILLING JOKE RULE!!!

I’m into it, I always enjoy when artists do something different compared to their older material.

Works for me, though the sound quality is shite. But the song itself sounds like something from Pandemonium.

Still haven’t heard the In Exelcis e.p. Not available in America and I can’t even locate it on Soulseek.

EDIT: Found some random website with a .rar of it.

It’s… weird

It’s different. Not a bad thing. Shitty quality though.

This is pretty shit.

I don’t think it’s the fact that they’re using dance music it’s what they’ve done with it. Very stale and derivative. Sounds like one of those daft tracks off a Trace Nation compilation with some Jazz Coleman rant thrown in.

Hopefully the rest of the album is better but I’m not going to get excited now.

I like electronic dance stuff…and I also like Killing Joke.

Still, kind of a weird combo. I can see how the KJ purists out there would think this is absolute crap.

You’ve got to give them credit for trying something different though, right?

yeah, the sound isn’t like the last few releases (Jaz actually sings too). Has a dance feel to it.

I like the e.p, sure. It was a nice surprise.

This latest track was naff. Last three albums were naff.

So yeah, they’re always lettin’ me down.

the quality is terrible here, but the ‘mix’ reminded me of the In Excelis cut - like an almost clear mix, dirtied up. as for the trance-y feel, I always expect one cut sorta like this with Youth on board. Pand, Demo both had tracks along this vein (more so the remixes of them, but whatever).

I admit it’s nice to hear Jaz sing some more, but this reminds me of ‘gasp’ Outside the Gate!

Yeah I wasn’t really a huge fan of the last 3 albums either…however I am a huge fan of this original line-up so I have faith the new album will be at least half decent. Personally I think it’ll be great. Not long to go now before we all find out.

I like it, and I’m very happy to hear Jaz singing a bit more as well. I can see why others don’t like it much, but it’s certainly different for them (and very surprising given this is the original lineup performing this…although I’ve noticed whenever Youth comes back they do amp up the electronics more).

You know the album won’t be entirely like this so as a fun little excursion I like it. I’m thinking now that the EP was just a round-up of all the tracks that had that particular sound to them and the album itself will be rather diverse, like ‘Pandemonium’.

I like other tracks off the new album - like In Excelsis and Ghost Of Ladbroke Grove and Endgame…so, hopefully it’s all as good.

on the upside, Time Wave didn’t make the album, and I’m happy about that, it was played on the reunion tour and wasn’t very good.

Is this still called Feast of Fools? I’m going to wait until I hear these songs together and it much, much better quality than this.
