Kanye West Rules

I never heard of his other work besides the one he put out a few years ago. It was very stale, and the tinny 80’s drums complete with autotune was incredibly horrible.

I have heard his production work, it’s okay, at least his early Neptunes work.

Couldn’t care to hear more.

P.S. And who gives a fuck who he samples? It just makes me want to seek out the original artists, it just makes Kanye irrelevant if he cannot perform to a similar calibre.

Who cares who Foetus samples? Who cares who Puppy samples? Me, that’s who! I’m a sucker for good use of sampling and I ain’t afraid to say it!!

I find the sampler a more interesting instrument than the guitar.

ETA: It’s not just who he samples, it’s how he samples. He brings a myriad group of sounds together and makes them play well together. Someone like NASA could take the same sources and make them awkward, Kanye makes 'em swagger.

Too bad his own music can’t stand up to that. At least the difference between the two, SP and Foetus, is that they’re both creative enough to turn them into something original.

Big Boi likes Kate Bush. Does it show in his music? No, but at least the guy has the chops to make me believe his inspiration isn’t so lacking in his execution.

Keep in mind I think Kanye has talent, but he should stay out of composing. I’m basing that on an album I heard two years ago. So, what the fuck do I know.

Skinny Puppy hasn’t done anything even close to as innovative as the new Kanye since their first album or two. If you think that “Mythmaker” is close to the quality you may want to check to see if you have cotton in your ears! =) As for Foetus, I think “Nail” probably holds up to “My Beautiful Twisted Fantasy” but that’d be about it.

^ In agreement with Green here. I understand feeling reluctance in embracing Kanye’s new album, due to his media persona, but I’ll throw in my two cents and say I think it’s great. There’s no need to kowtow to Taylor Swift either, I don’t really care if she can play guitar and sing, I’d be much more interested in hearing a piece of music that’s actually interesting. I’d easily go with Kanye if I had to choose between the two in that department. Though Swift’s unintentional collaboration with him at the VMA’s when he interrupted her was pretty great work.

i am going to pretend that there isn’t a pro-kayne west thread in my prongs…

Your prongs?

he has no talent other than idiocy.

Actually he’s a decent producer in the studio?

who gives a shit if he has a sample of king crimson. that just means the guy who writes his music did it.

??? Kanye writes & produces his stuff…and is a big record collector and digger too…I’d love to rummage through his collection!

if you’re trying to throw your fellow prongs’ers with something from left field. then go with taylor swfit. at least the girl can sing and play guitar.

She’s a cracker ass cracker who plays cracker ass cracker country music…most of us here like to dance our ass off and we can’t friggin do that with Taylor can we??? You can have Taylor…we’ll be busy shakin our ass to Kanye dude.

Who cares who Foetus samples? Who cares who Puppy samples? Me, that’s who! I’m a sucker for good use of sampling and I ain’t afraid to say it!!

HAHAHAHA…I thinks it’s hilarious that all these clowns here moaning about sampling all bang on about how great their Industrial heroes are when 99% of that music is sampling!!

LAME!!!

Kanye sampled Can too…that makes him rather cool in my book regardless of the fact I own zero records by him.

Too bad his own music can’t stand up to that. At least the difference between the two, SP and Foetus, is that they’re both creative enough to turn them into something original.

In your opinion.

In my opinion Skinny Puppy are complete and utter crap. I’d much rather be at a party with Kanye rocking out…with a Kanye party at least I’d get some funky ass bass-lines, booty shakin breaks, “cool” samples and hot chicks.

Kanye is causing controversy on Prongs…no where is safe from the man!!! AHAHAHAHAHA

Foetus rule!

People who listen to all different genres of music have been praising this album so much. I have not heard of a record endorsed so much since its release, in a long time. Amazon has it for $4 (digital download), which I just bought.

People blasting Kanye for his attitude; if you knew the attitude of most musicians you listen to, odds are, you wouldn’t like them either. Believe me when I say this especially with Ministry…

I think it’s safe to say that the moaners are folk who don’t listen to all different genres of music. I’d take a guess that they only listen to music they class as “cool”, dark, edgy and heavy ass. I know there was a time I did this many years ago…and thank god I didn’t continue that trend as I’ve found sooooooooooooo much better music since.

Man, there’s two types of music: good and bad. That’s it. Genres need not matter. I’ve heard awful Industrial and I’ve heard good industrial as I have with any other genre…

True dat true dat Afra…I think a lot of folk feel more special and unique if they find music they love in the so called “underground”… and as a result they dislike mainstream acts that may appeal to them too???

I’ve decided that as a result of this thread I’m going to buy Kanye’s new album today! hahaha

Well if you want a artist with no attitude who also happens to write music with no attitude, then we should forget all other artists and just listen to Coldplay (and all other similar ‘indie’ sounding bands) instead. Problem solved [laugh]

Coldplay have a bad attitude when comes to making cool music imo.

As true of a statement as I’ve read on Prongs!

Be prepared for a whole shit ton of awesome!

:o:O:O

are you comparing SP and FOETUS to…KAYNE WEST?!

this is lunacy. i vote you off the forums!!!

no but seriously…there is NOTHING original or remotely creative (imo) about Kayne West. wanna talk about creative/original hip hop? SAUL WILLIAMS!

Or even KRS One bitches [cool]

Of course there is.

wanna talk about creative/original hip hop? SAUL WILLIAMS!

Saul Williams rules!!!

But the question is were you a Saul Williams fan before or after Trent Reznor co-produced his last album?

I bet if Trent Reznor co-produced this new Kanye album you’d all be creaming your pants over it! HAHAHAHA!!!

Personally I’ve been listening to Saul Williams since around 99 after hearing his Twice The First Time tune on the Ninja Tune Xen Cuts compilation…I creamed my pants over his first album Amethyst Rockstar…I LOVED his books to bits from Seventh Octave right through to Dead Emcee Scrolls and went absolutely bananas over his self titled album which dropped in 2004…I dreaded hearing that Trent Reznor would be involved in his 2007 album and thought it was easily his weakest. At least a ton of NIN fans jumped on the Saul Williams bandwagon as a result of Trent though as Saul deserves to make some money.

Anyway back to Kanye…I bought the cd on the way home and have put it on my ipod…I will blast it on the way to work and report back.
