JKB Overload

final 's output varies from lp to lp. it’s nearly consistently beat-less but not exactly what you’d term ambient. more of freeform sound/noise/hum/buzz kinda thing.

you can listen to all of ‘reading all the right signals wrong’ over at thrilljockey’s website…

as for jesu - opiate sun & infinity are hopefully new material (ie, post vault purge), yes i’m looking forward to the heart ache re-issue for the bonus disc. it’s likely the material that was originally slated for the split with agoraphobic nosebleed (that was shelved).

Maynard’s flirtation with Perfect Circle (which is Tool for a 13 year old) has taken some negative effect on the band.

?
Aside from Maynard singing they’re nothing alike. It’s definitely more straightforward in approach. I guess if that means it’s “for a 13 year old” I need to check back into middle school.
That said, Maynard’s side projects shouldn’t have any affect on Tool at all really. He does them because it takes the Tool instrumentalists forever to work out all those prog-metal parts. Maynard’s got a lot of time to kill while they figure out how to play in 17/12 time.

METHOD OF DEFIANCE - ‘TBA’. JKB - Guitars (Project with Bill Laswell, Wata (Boris), Submerged, Dr Israel, Enduser).

I’m most excited about this project.

I’m looking forward to the Jesu and everything but this Method Of Defiance sounds fucking awesome. Broadrick & Laswell on the same record…now all I need is JK to make an album with Sly & Robbie and Amon Tobin and that’s my dream Justin collaborations taken care of.

I really wish JK would make some more Hip Hop/Dub albums. I’d even like it a hell of a lot more if he went down the path of Kevin Martin aka BUG and made some kick ass Dubstep stuff.

I was listening to Godflesh’s SOLAH today and I’d forgotten what a wonderful song “Frail” was. Definately Godflesh’s finest uplifting pop moment.

Oh yeah…Tool (like NIN) is overhyped pish. To mention such mediocrity in a Justin Broadrick thread is a crime against humanity.

Frail was Benny’s favorite track.

I really like jesu silver is their any final that is in the vain of silver or is it a different sound altogether?
Late,
grmpysmrf

I’d go with Final 3 as a starting point. It has a similar feel to Silver in some respects (but it’s still very much an ambient drone album). I really dig it.

you’re a mediocrity…ugh…yeah!

I’m interested in a lot of these releases. JKB has become my go-to guy for music in the last several years. Basically since '01 (the birth of Jesu).

Most looking forward to Opiate Sun and Infinity. I hope that Opiate Sun is in the vein of Conqueror (the name seems like it would run along the same environmentalist strain that he’s been playing with) and that Infinity sounds like his Inifity Guitar things from way back. I really hope the Heart Ache unreleased EP is along the same vein of the album it’s packaged with. That’s still one of my favorite pieces by the band and I was really thinking that surely he would have had more to throw out from that time period with as prolific a writer as he is.

The Jesu/Envy split I’ve been waiting on for ages now. Same goes for GreyMachine.

White Static Demon just sounds interesting to me.

Solaris BC is a project I’ve been trying to track down for years so I’m happy to see it is getting re-released.

I’m always interested in Justin’s remix work but of the ones mentioned I’m really only caring about the Lustmord tracks. That could be a lot of fun.

Never been a huge fan of the Final stuff but if Origins and the Infinity 3 and the Guitar and Bass Collaborations are the bit I mentioned earlier or stuff from around that writing session then I would love to get good new copies of that stuff. Those samples and loops are crazy great.

Also really excited about the Method of Defiance stuff. I mean… How could it go wrong? JKB on guitar, Boris is somewhere in the mix and Enduser is just amazing with breaks and beats.

Anyhoo… Perfect Circle has it’s moments. Most notably their first album had a lot of heart to it with tracks like Brena, Sleeping Beauty and Thinking of You. Really could care quite less about anything on the second album other than maybe The Blue and Noose. Pet has a great bass line. Other than what I’ve mentioned I could leave it all be and never look back.

Tool was never the same for me past Undertow. It came to me at a special moment in my life and under extreme circumstances. When Aenima came out, I protested. When Lateralus came out I was just sick with how “grandiose” and pretentious they had become with themselves. 10,000 I gave one listen to and actually broken the CD in my hands and declaered I would never waste another cent on them.

Oh yeah…Tool (like NIN) is overhyped pish. To mention such mediocrity in a Justin Broadrick thread is a crime against humanity.

Thank you!

I’m pro-tool… (cymbal crash) ugh sorry…
seriously like tha band. but i don’t think i’ll ever really sit down and listen to the first few cds much again. I’ve heard them so many times i can play them by heart in my head… agree with the rollins comment. the whole naked and fearless part is like that scene in office space where the black guy walks by the car and the radio gets turned down and the doors locked and windows rolled up…

Frail was Benny’s favorite track.

Really? That, along with “Almost Heaven” and “Angel Domain” makes that record.

If you’d like I could recommend you some decent releases.

yeah that’d be ok… Jizzy didn’t steer me wrong with Silver so I can go out on a limb with you and fennesz, I suppose

Yeah I thought that was really fennesz cause i had never heard of the guy before so i just thought he was some fan of ministry that happened to be an up and comer in between writing a musical score or two…you know dumb americans, “if i haven’t heard of you/it, it/you can’t be that important!”

Hey, we weren’t always at odds I believe you professed love for me when I started a mars rover thread! aaah good times!![:)]

No. He’s kinda like the poster boy for ‘artsy’ music mags like The Wire. Pitchforkmedia.com also love him.

At odds? Man, you don’t know the half of it. I was quite the hateful fucker back in the day. Much worse in real life than on any internet forum. Went through a bad period for reasons best left unsaid. It’s a good thing I never touched drugs 'cos in that state of mind I’d be dead by now. I actually had to leave two jobs because the other employees hated me so much.

So what are you recommending by this fella? Amoeba had quite the collection, easily a dozen or so discs; I don’t know how many were repeats, but…

Get ‘Endless Summer’.

It is without peer in the world of laptop electronics.

All right, I’ll let you know as soon as…

Ill add my vote for Tool then.

In fact, I couldnt really get into them at all before I heard this album, it sounded like fairly mediocre alternative metal with prog tendencies. Some interesting ideas here and there but overall it lacked the power to remain intriguing. Lateralus changed that.

Yeah. What he said.

Just got White Static Demon. Why not call this Final? It’s very noisy, but pretty nice. Now i’m getting Council Estate Electronics, hoping for something a little different. But to me, he might as well have just called these efforts Final.

Just some more info on Jesu releases this year from JKB’s twitter page:

" ‘Infinity’ is split into two quite distinct parts; the first part has programmed beats and live guitars, bass and vocals. The second part is all live instrumentation, I play all instruments on this LP. Also, on a technical note, I am using Marshall amplification again in replacement of the Pod guitar set up; there is no use of amplifier emulation on this LP. It is the most ‘organic’ jesu has sounded, same for the Caldo Verde EP. ‘Infinity’ I feel will contain some surprises for some."
