Avalanche Recs. two new digital download only releases :

WHITE STATIC DEMON - ‘Decayed’ (AREC016)

White Static Demon is a new Justin K Broadrick project for which he has been working on recordings for over one year. Again, like Council Estate Electronics, White Static Demon was inspired by Justin collecting and compiling material from Final cassette releases on his Post Mortem Rekordings label circa 1984-87, specifically the early uncompromising brutal power electronics driven Final, unlike Council Estate Electronics which was inspired by the more open ended Throbbing Gristle / Tangerine Dream (‘Phaedra’ most notably) inspired Final of old. JKB, excited again by this eighties power electronics sound and what inspired Final to take this direction initially in 1984/85, namely Ramleh / Broken Flag, Whitehouse / Come Org, Consumer Electronics / Iphar and M.B (Maurizio Bianchi) set about revitalising and revisiting this hateful / black / power electronics sound, utilizing analogue electronics and voice only, coupled with a now more mature, textured and psychedelic approach to the production of such material, JKB throughout 2008 and now 2009 has been recording sessions for this new and what will become a prolific project. Presented here is the first album, available in the digital format only, like Council Estate Electronics, there are many releases forthcoming on both vinyl and CDr across many labels. ‘Decayed’ has three tracks running with a total time of 54 Minute approx. Short mid quality MP3 extracts are downloadable at the Avalanche Store

SOLARIS BC - ‘Submerged Technology’ (AREC015)

Solaris BC was yet another short lived Justin K Broadrick project, designed to be released on his also short lived label Lo Fibre circa 1995-96. Lo Fibre released four 12" EP’s throughout this period, the label was intended to be an outlet for JKB and related to release minimal / lo fi techno. Around this same period JKB and Kevin Martin (The Bug / Techno-Animal / etc) also worked the minimal / maximal techno project The Sidewinder for Mille Plateaux/Force Inc and Virgin, this culminated in two releases, the album ‘Colonized’ which was released on the aforementioned labels and the 12" Vinyl only EP ‘Implant’ for the Lo Fibre label, The Sidewinder and Solaris BC projects ran parallel to each other around this period, and both recorded albums - ‘Colonized’ saw a release whilst the Solaris BC album presented here for the first time waited for release on Sentrax whilst the label re-assessed its distribution, unfortunately Sentrax then folded and JKB shelved the Solaris BC album indefinitely until now. ‘Submerged Technology’ is the full album as it was intended for release in 1996, remastered by JKB in late 2008. Eight tracks in 55 Minutes approx. of completely unreleased material.Short mid quality MP3 extracts are downloadable at the Avalanche Store

Ha ha!!

All this and Tool (who are lauded the world over as FUCKING musical GENIUSES) release ONE album every six years. *

Although I do kinda worry about the QUALITY of Justin’s work which tends to suffer when there’s an avalanche (no pun intended) of new material available.

I just lashed out and spent $120 on Jesu’s ‘Sunrise/SunDown’ ep and the Jesu/Eluvium split vinyls which have become quite the collectors items over the last few months.

Goodbye paycheck.

  • don’t get me wrong I love Tool but…sheesh hurry up already, I want new Tool not fucking Puscifer.

I have no clue why you would even mention Tool. I loved them when they first came out but as time passed by I became very bored and found their music to be a bit mediocre and stagnant. It’s just not very good in my opinion anymore. And now that I look back at it I wonder exactly what was good about it. There are a handful of tracks that I will still say are good. Mostly Undertow stuff. But after Undertow all it seems to be is a slow decline of musicianship and wasted talent geared towards thinking they are some penultimae metaphysical musicians that have been touched by the hand of “the spiral” or whatever name Maynard has given god today.

Bleh.

I hate Tool. The only thing that ever was any good about them was the basslines.

Disagree.

One word: Lateralus.

Before I heard Lateralus, the mere mention of ‘Tool’ would elicit nothing more than a chuckle. I used to put them right up there with Nine Inch Nails. Which, if you know me, isn’t much of a compliment as I would rather eat a bucket of raw beetroot than be subjected to Trent’s high schooly sounding industro-hissy fits.

Then I heard Lateralus - which I would liken to being struck by lightning. Since then I haven’t looked back and have been an avid fan ever since. I even like A Perfect Circle.

Album by album:

10,000 Days - Decent but a bit sloppy, especially in the lyrics department. The opening track ‘Vicarious’ sounds like something that didn’t make Lateralus. Occasionally wallows in it’s own self importance.

Lateralus - almost perfect (except for ‘Ticks And Leeches’ which is bafflingly juvenile)

Aenima - Very good but just short of greatness. Production is a bit muddy.

Undertow - one dimensional, boring and undeveloped. The Rollins cameo is insipid.

One word: shipping.

Add on another 30 - 40 Aus dollars

ouch…that’s robbery.
well, at least some of this new stuff is digital (yes I hate digital only but I’ll take what I can get these days, damn recession)

I want to get some final but i cant find it at Amoeba and i’m to lazy to order it online… I really like jesu silver is their any final that is in the vain of silver or is it a different sound altogether?
Late,
grmpysmrf

Final is an ambient / noise project. No ‘songs’ as such.

Final 3 is the only one I have. Can’t be arsed getting the rest of them 'cos that kind of ‘thing’ is a dime a dozen these days.

Go to Amoeba and ask if they have any Fennesz. They should. And you’ll love it.

two words: tool sucks

they do. I’ve seen his placard. That dude used to post here years ago back when we had the old board. He’s in the electronica section

Gee that’s profound.

Care to expand on that Afra…or shall we just keep guessing as to why they suck?

That was my old username. I chose the name ‘Fennesz’ because I was such a big girly fan.

You don’t honestly think that Christian Fennesz, Austrian laptop noise manipulating genius would post on the Ministry prongs board?

Do a little research on the guy - listen to some samples. You’ll be pleasantly surprised. If you’d like I could recommend you some decent releases.

‘Heart Ache’ - 2xCD Hydra Head Version (2nd CD Bonus Unreleased EP from 2003) Sept 09

Yee-HAW.

[:)]

Ah this thread has gone off on a tangent way too soon.

3 new Jesu releases this year!? Wow, that is something else. I am excited. The reissue of ‘Heartache’ could be sexual if the unreleased stuff is in the same vein as the aforementioned. And EP and 1 song LP as well sounds good. I just hope hope that JKB brings back the guitars to prominence. The last 2 split EP’s were kinda weak so it would be cool to have a bit more “force” as it were. The re release of ‘Heartache’ could be a signal to such (but that equally could suggest nothing of the sort I guess, oh well)

I laughed my head off when I saw Jesu are playing a fucking Butlins Holiday Centre. For those of you who don’t know what that is, Butlins are a British holiday company that cater for families with small kids. You’re more likely to see Barney the Dinosaur than Jesu. That’s if the new Jesu is not sing along music for kids… oh no!

Still haven’t got around to Final yet. Those of you who are familiar with them, what is their best release so far? On a tight (more like non existent) budget so can only seek out one at a time.

I lived in the UK for two and a half years and not one single person I met (and I met heaps of people immersed in the alternative music scene) had heard of Jesu…and this was just recently - as recently as late last year. Nor had they heard of Godflesh, except for one crustly old tattooed Killing Joke fan I came across who had just completed a two year stint in jail and who smoked pot like there was no tomorrow.

Those crazy Brits.

Anyway, yeah I’m approaching these new releases with some trepidation as I agree that the more material he releases the more the quality has tended to suffer. Bring on new Final though I say!

I agree with Peligro. Tool don’t suck!

Tool 2 - 2 Anti Tool

Keep voting!

Ill add my vote for Tool then.

Tool 3 - Anti-Tool 2

Coincidentally, I have more or less exactly the same opinion of Tool’s output as Peligro, with Lateralus being by far their best album for me. In fact, I couldnt really get into them at all before I heard this album, it sounded like fairly mediocre alternative metal with prog tendencies. Some interesting ideas here and there but overall it lacked the power to remain intriguing. Lateralus changed that.

Tool fan up until 96. Last two albums were kind of boring and make me wish for more A Perfect Circle.

That’s some awesome news though. The JKB/Lustmord one really has me interested the most though I think. New Jesu is always a plus, but I wonder what the extra unreleased ep is going to be or like? And isn’t there supposed to be another Final in the works as well.

Now i’m in the mood for some Slavestate.

No, sorry, I was messing about. They don’t suck. I like most of their releases.

Well, wasn’t too up on their latest album. I think the band, not recording in the same room at the same time is affecting their quality and Maynard’s flirtation with Perfect Circle (which is Tool for a 13 year old) has taken some negative effect on the band.
