Enough Ministry talk - it’s all about Jesu
P.S. Got http://www.jesuband.org today - maybe I’ll do something with it. I dunno…

JESU FUCKING SUX DOOD! haha Nah. I finally got the chance to listen to the entire Silver EP, finally! Very good stuff there. And I heard a little bit of conquerer, from what I heard (3 tracks), it was pretty nice as well. Conquerer (the song) and Silver sound a little alike though. I can’t judge much since that’s all i’ve heard.
what would be included on the jesu site? godflesh.com is what I consider the prongs of Godflesh related music, i.e. the most in depth, longest running site one can find.
but I’m already counting down the days till I get the Japanese imports of Conqueror and Lifeline, along with Pale Sketches. I’m really looking forward to hearing “Sun Rise” and “Sun Set”
In listening to Pale Sketches this past weekend, I was inspired to pull out all my jesu stuff and give them a spin. I was/am horrified to discover that I seem to have lost my heart ache ep! [mad]
Does anyone here know where I could order another copy? Assuming there are still some out there?

And speaking of Pale Sketches. I went on the webstore and tried to order it again, just to see, and it’s still available. Are there really not more than 2000 jesu fans out there?!

Its kinda strange as 1000 copies of Sundown/sunrise on lp sold out in like a week. so the fans are there. perhaps the fact that they are all being sold via his webstore and not to distributors is the difference. The casual fan may not know about the cd.
i think they are pressing heart ache onto vinyl, pre orders starting in jan?
nice work afra. jesu is awesome.
Just throw a phpBB install on there and let the Jesu forum love commence!!
I’m a bit concerned because I preordered Pale Sketches the first week it was on the site and I still haven’t got it in the mail yet. The wait is killlliiiing me.

All this talk of Jesu is pissing me off… I’ve never sampled them.
Can somebody give me a decidedly un-Jizzwad synopsis of them?
Jesu is just starting to sink in for me. Quite repetitive, one or two consistent riffs with feedback at times. Low vocals that seem to be there for structure than expression. When you think the song is done…it’s not…it keeps going; long songs that don’t necessary drag but sorta just fade out after a while. At times Justin can be spacey, trippy, grunge & also heavy. Definitely has a distinct sound. “You wear their masks” & “dummy” are big stand outs for me right now.
I first got into Justin with “Mothra” from the 1992 Pure release…Godflesh.

Check out the Pale Sketches thread on here from a week back or so:
Other people (myself included) have commented on their style and offer suggestions. There’s a link there to download a free MP3 from the Adult Swim (Cartoon Network) site.
Just picked up the Lifeline EP off iTunes. Very very good stuff and might be my favorite of Jesu so far. Just flows better with me than the other ones, which isn’t taking away from the other albums/eps. Debating on whether or not I should shell out the cash for s/t album. I want to, but affording it is the issue, heh. But this EP is great.
I’ll be checking all this out, then.
Godflesh wasn’t really my thing… Jesu seems like a Godflesh-esque take on Filth Pig, then.
Thanks much, all.

Filth Pig IS a Godflesh album. Er, wait…
I never really liked Godflesh so I’d stayed away from Jesu. Finally, because it was only 4 songs I downloaded “Lifeling”. Really like it, sparkly shoegazer stuff made extra heavy. Synths really remind me of MBV but that’s OK. Didn’t entirely dig the Jarboe vocal tracks but everything else was very nice. Guess I’ll have to test out more.
Im a big Godflesh fan and I dig a fair amount of Jesu; however, I still prefer JKB’s previous band. Ive never been too much into the whole shoegaze thing and as Justin ventures further into this style, Jesu becomes somewhat unimpressive for me. Besides, there are bands that make this “shoegazer metal” thing work far better, for example [url “http://www.myspace.com/amesoeurs”]Amesoeurs…
Jeez, guys…even I’m getting slightly bored by Jesu now.
Does anyone else here dig other shoegaze bands? Anyone here ever get into Ride in the early nineties?? They were great…for a short while. Jesu have borrowed alot from them aesthetically.
I too am a huge Godflesh fan and upon listening to the first few Jesu releases prefered Justins earlier work. But as it is now Jesu has sunk in for me and i must say i love them BIG time. The new EP “Life Line” is superb stuff. Jarboe’s (ex-Swans) vocals were a fantastic bonus on it!
Credit to Justin Broadrick for the way his sound has evolved.
